JT, your insight is very accurate but I'm betting on a "critcal mass" of cumulative dissent. I perceive a general erosion in the Administration and the youth. All taking place in a climate of public criticism via the internet and periodically in the press. It is the general "pride" of being a Witness that is eroding . Ten years ago I would have agreed with your scenario but not today. Different climate.

I can see both sides but I'm betting on the the long term nature of the issue of child abuse and the fact that Bill Bowen has the high moral ground. Given the internet, case documentaion, and the press its seems likely to me that time is not on the side of the WTBTS. It is important that disfellowshipping be dethroned as the weapon of choice. It really blocks the way to the free exercise of conscience . So I perceive that this is the time determined for the disarming of the WTBTS. It is important that those who are being martyred continue to see that there is still a progression going on. It took an issue with teeth, like child abuse, to begin the unfolding of methods and techniques that are immoral and dishonorable. Keep your eye on the young JWs. The message boards are short term viewpoints. Any one "seasoned" knows that lasting idealism must be based on reality. In fact Bill Bowen is a good example of this fact.

It is apparent that Bill Bowen and Silentlambs will not go away. It seems to me that over time, this fact translates to defection within the ranks of Jehovah's Witnesses as they continue to "associate " with this Apostate. In her letter to the Governing Body, Bill's wife correctly states that it is the Body's policies that have caused "divisions". There is no reason to think that these divisions will not continue to fester. Therefore, Bill Bowen's case is now a "Standard" to those of honest heart. I don't think the WTBTS correctly assesed the long term nature of the issue when they high-handedly disfellowshiped him. Child abuse coverups will not go away nor will Silentlambs or the internet. The child abuse issue is not small. By using the "rod" of disfellowshiping on Bill Bowen and Silentlambs the WTBTS has, inadvertantly brought disfellowshiping itself into the limelight. This is a good thing. In my opinion "divisions" will cause that policy to be ignored . The policy is a "dirty bomb". Without it, the WTBTS will be forced to sit at a table and actually answer to its membership.

i spent the last few days with some witnesses and they complained about this elder, that congregation,these rules that are enforced in one congregation but not another, how truly boring the meetings are, how holy spirit could not have appointed brother so-and-so.
i heard how an elder in a nearby congregation is really a thief and a liar.

What the WTBTS should have known but did not know is that "Babylon The Great" is a spirit not a specific religion or group of religions. That spirit is embodied in the WTBTS and that's why it has as much to fear from the truth as all the other self serving blind Religions. They all are institutions acting like governments over their members. Since the first rule of government is to "stay in power", they all compromise spirituality for survival and power. Good phrase "white washed graves"!

first the basis of my position is that evolution is true and that the darwinist viewpoint holds true that it is all about survival.

gravedancer, despair comes from fear. Unless I misunderstand , you are afraid of nonexistence (nothingness). I know that fear . It is a form of suffering and its source is in the persisting ignorance we have of our true nature. The answer does not lie in concepts such as existence or non existence or, life or death or, evolution or creation or, mind or matter etc. ect. The answer lies in the direct perception of your true nature which perception can only occur when conceptualizing ceases. At that point both the question and the answer become irrelevent. If you need to pursue the concept of nothingness I suggest you seek out the writings of Nagarjuna ( 2nd century ) considered to be the father of philosophical Mahayana Buddhism. He wrote " Seventy Stanzas" on the psychology of "Emptiness". We are not talking about replacing one set of ideas with another set. We are talking about direct perception into our nature. That alone will eliminate all fear.
