The key is that the signs are for set intervals. The computation within each interval always comes out the same . For example: 22-4= 18....23-5= 18....24-6=18....25-7=18....26-8=18....27-9=18....28-10=18 now the interval changes ie: 30-3= 27...etc. Any time 18 comes up as the answer you get the sign for 18 and so on.

Estee, "weird" and "ignorance" are good choices . This man could be lovable but he has been contaminated by self rightousness, the kind that was rampent during his youth in the 50's and 60's. He had done some circuit work in Canada in his early years and was an Elder when he was disfellowshipped. At one time he remarked ( in a book study ) that the speed of light and the speed of electricity were the same , as shown by the fact that " the light comes on in a room when you hit the light switch". He was always very judgemental and , although I don't know the details , the "word" on the street is that he became publically critical of a Distict Overseer. He may have picked the wrong target. For years his peers allowed him to judge and criticize the lowly publishers on just about anything that did not line up with his personal taste. He once used the instruction talk to point out the dangers of watching the evening news and another time he counseled against reading National Geographic because of the native nudity. This has to be a sick man. Yet he was allowed to counsel and exercise authority for years and years. From beginning to end he must have been in the "Truth" for over 50 years. How many young minds did he degrade and yet his friends protected him until , as it seems true, he picked the wrong target and the political machinery turned against him. Again , this man could be lovable but he is too delusionary to have a real relaionship.

The problem can go very deep. We are dealing with peoples psyche and it is astonishing to see what is in there. For example I just came from a saw mill owned by a disfellowshipped person. I am not disfellowshipped but I went to him and asked for his help in supplying me enough rough sawn wood and small logs to build an 8' x 8' deck (rustic style). He has vast fields of fallen timber and is in the business. I have know him for years but did not have the occasion to speak to him for several years. He said he will not deal with me? Why not? According to him I had once told him " no one tells me (Siddhashunyata) what to do " and that I left the "Truth". I pointed out to him that he was disfellowshipped and I was not. He said "don't play mind games" with me. I said, think about it , I'm being shunned by the shunned. He said, "do you know what I was disfellowshipped for?" I said , no. He said, "neither do I." I said didnt they tell you? He said , who? I said, the ones who disfellowshipped you? He paused and brought his hanging head up and said.. "Oh that's a long story". Then he looked me in the eye as I held out my hand and he would not shake my hand . I left politely . Shunned by the Shunned !!! How sad.

Addressing mind control helps the person and helps them leave
by Introspection inin talking to those that go to the local xjw support group here, it occurred to me that when we address the mental/psychological aspect of witness indoctrination it kind of kills two birds with one stone.
i think this is especially helpful because you can talk about mind control without directly pointing a finger at the wts (of course there is a time for that too) - but it seems it would help you get the wheels turning first.
comparing this to the bombarding-them-with-facts-about-the-society approach, it seems a lot more subtle if not more effective.

Introspection , thank you. I have felt all along that the mind control techniques are the strongest evidence to free those who need to believe that God has nothing to do with the WTBTS. Anyone can make mistakes of prophecy, but willfiul manipulation of your brother's mind is unforgivable according to the belief that God is Love.

Shunning is the main brick in the WTBTS structure. Without shunning there would be free expression , freedom of conscience, and ultimatly reform. Shunning is used not only to keep the congregations clean but wrongly to punish dissenters , the source of reform and change. Without shunning, the whole apparatus is threatened. What's the first rule of government?........... to stay in power. Shunning is like a death sentence. Under present circumstances the only hope is that the membersip ignores the policy of shunning . The disfellowshipping and shunning of Bill Bowen and others opened up that possibility because of the work they are doing for abused publishers. However, the WTBTS is standing in the way and publishers are afraid . The WTBTS is being sued for using shunning on those whose work is to help these frightened victims of abuse.

The loss of the "rod" of disfellowshipping. Below is a quote from another post. I still hold that disfellowshipping is an "endangered species".
" It is apparent that Bill Bowen and Silentlambs will not go away. It seems to me that over time, this fact translates to defection within the ranks of Jehovah's Witnesses as they continue to "associate " with this Apostate. In her letter to the Governing Body, Bill's wife correctly states that it is the Body's policies that have caused "divisions". There is no reason to think that these divisions will not continue to fester. Therefore, Bill Bowen's case is now a "Standard" to those of honest heart. I don't think the WTBTS correctly assesed the long term nature of the issue when they high-handedly disfellowshiped him. Child abuse coverups will not go away nor will Silentlambs or the internet. The child abuse issue is not small. By using the "rod" of disfellowshiping on Bill Bowen and Silentlambs the WTBTS has, inadvertantly brought disfellowshiping itself into the limelight. This is a good thing. In my opinion "divisions" will cause that policy to be ignored . The policy is a "dirty bomb". Without it, the WTBTS will be forced to sit at a table and actually answer to its membership."

they are both men in their mid 40s, both look like they are pushing 55. both are single, dirt poor and unskilled, although one is going to marry soon.
the first man, who works as a landscaper, was a good mechanic but never got the technical training necessary so is in essence unskilled labor.

It would be especially difficult to establish WT liability for the kinds of things you mention. It would be easier in cases involving blood tranfusions , child abuse or suicide and these cases are proliferating. The courts do not want to get involved with "church" teachings or their effects. This is because of the First Amendment guaranteeing freedom of religion. What is being protected is the "ability to choose" a religion , once the choice is made, you are on your own. This is a flaw in the Amendment, in my opinion caused by social changes since the Amendment was written. Below are several posts dealing with the idea of "full disclosure" as a possible remedy to the posited flaw in the Amendment. "In all fairness, people are being hurt by the double standard that is protected under the Constitutional banner " Freedom of Religion". While the intent of this law is to protect the "believer" and to level the playing field for all religions, there is another effect and that is to empower a religion to exercise authority over its membership that violates their civil and human rights. This dilemma has become accute since the advent of psychology and proselytizing techniques have been conformed to what is known about the human mind. Therefore , full disclosure would confront the dilemma in that it would sensitize the potential convert from THE BEGINNING. Additionaly, potential legislation would "encourage" religious organizations to "clean up their acts" while they fiercely lobby against such a bill." "The issue of "full disclosure"has yet to be aired in courts. To date it is incumbent on the convert to dig out all the subtlties and issues before becoming a member. This rule is outdated by the modern use of psychological techniques to lure unsuspecting members into the fold. Some day it will become clear that people are being hurt by religious organizations like the WTBTS and such organizations will be required to make "full disclosure" of lost or pending law suits so that a potential convert can make an informed choice apart from coersive techniques. Just think what you might have done if the WTBTS was required, bylaw, to inform you that.... "By becoming one of Jehovah's Witnesses you will be required to give up the following Civil and Human Rights: etc. Please see the following pending cases involving the loss of the aformentioned rights; etc "
