I agree, a great idea.
The 'powers that be' would have an apoplectic!
i was thinking about how many of us here are either being shunned or know someone who is being shunned.
although highly unlikely, it would be wonderful if this horrible practice was completely eliminated.. i know we have the wt victims memorial day in the summer, but does anyone know of any grassroots sort of movement to have a jw break the silence day on shunning?
we could encourage and promote for all jw's who have a df'd friend or family member to contact that person on that day--maybe even with the excuse that they need to check on them.. i know that it won't demolish the shunning policy, but at least a day like this could shed some light on the harmful practice to those outside the jw community as well as providing an unofficial designated day for jws to reach out to those they're shunning.

i've been curious for a while ... what is it when people type "marked" in their posts?
what does it mean and how does it work?
thanks..
Basically you're deemed to be 'bad association' and one to be wary of, or limit your association with the individual.
The same as shunning the individual although to a lesser extent.
PS: I hope that this 'marked' is what is being meant.
i had not seen my parents for over 15 years since the funeral of my brother and even then no one spoke to me as i was da.
my dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2014 and i was then permitted contact with them.
i now know the reason that this is allowed.
@ Disassociated Lady 2
I too am sorry to read of this.
Can't remember the scripture off hand, I think it is in one of the chapters in the book of John however it goes something along the lines of; 'by this all will know that you are my disciples if you have love among yourselves' - or words to that effect.
So in reference to the OP one has to question; where is this love?
hello :) so i know this guy for almost 6 years, i met him when i was 15 and i felt in love.
now i’m 21 and he is 22. we were in the same class and got along very well and he seemed to like me too.
when i confessed, face to face he haven't admitted and he haven't denied it and he acted like he liked me too but couldn't be with me because reasons bigger than him, but i was too young to understand and he was young to handle the pressure he had.
LisaRose's post above ^^^ summed it up well.
it seems like many feel hurt or saddened by the practice of shunning by witnesses.. yes, when ones who we were close to, perhaps family or ones we thought were close friends choose to follow the warped directions of the society, it may seem hurtful.. but really, our reaction is up to us.
the fact is, these ones have shown that in reality, their love for us was never real or genuine.
no, those relationships were superficial and lacking in substance.
Here are my thoughts;
Strong families are the building blocks of strong communities, and strong communities are the building blocks of strong nations.
IMO, I believe that one's identity, self worth and esteem is dependant on a tight family unit. Break up the family and everyone in that family suffers.

for the “living as christians” section of the workbook, “are you reaching out?” talk (15 min), the bethelite gave this talk at the meeting.
he totally departed from the subject matter which is the watchtower of september 15, 2014, pages 3-6. he was so far off the reservation, it wasn't funny.
here are a few highlights of what was said: 1) if any brother asked why they haven’t been appointed, and wants to know if there is a problem or condition that exists, that brother is too “presumptuous” and therefore, can’t be used.
You couldn't make this nonsense up ... pathetic.
If the BOE for some reason deems a brother to be lacking in a specific area and needs more time to work / improve on it and therefore is overlooked, how on earth is the brother supposed to know if he isn't allowed to ask?Would be interesting to know what percentage of Elders actually approach brothers who are seen to be 'reaching out' and tell them the reason(s) for not being appointed?
