  My experience on a 'KH Quick Build'.

  My profession is an Occupational Health and Safety Practitioner. Yes I know; I;ve heard all the jokes before and am considered, among certain 'professionals', as public enemy number one. However, someone has to do the job, even on JW building projects.

  A few years back, I was a member of a safety team on regional KH Quick Build projects. I took my role seriously and applied my knowledge and experience of the construction industry accordingly. My team overseer often delegated to me to give the safety updates at the tea / lunch breaks.

  On one occasion I reported back to the ‘Project Overseer’ an issue of serious concern which, unchecked, could have the potential to result in serious injury or worse to the volunteer(s). His reply; ‘We don't build like the world!'

  For me, his response was the end of my involvement on KH Building Projects. In the project health & safety file was a copy of my professional registration. There was no way that I was going to put my registration at risk. So I withdrew it from the file, walked off the project, never to return.

  What Were Your Elders Real World Jobs?

  we all know that education is severely demonized in this religion.

  and that the elders are appointed based on how many meetings they attend, hours they put in on the ministry and general attitude to other elders (as apposed to, you know, actual theological training and counseling) - so my question is, what were your elders occupations outside the kingdom hall?.

  in my old congregation our elders consisted of:.

  A heating engineer in charge of a hospital (don't even know the correct name for this job but quite skilled) ... Slimboyfat.

  I’ve attended a number of congregations over the years and these were the professions that I know some of the Elders had;

  3 were company directors

  2 were medical doctors (GP & Anaesthetist)

  3 were architects

  Some were involved with finance (accountants)

  Some were tradesman (fitter & turners, electricians, electro-mech technicians)

  1 was a branch manager of a retail store

  1 was a lawyer

  A good number of Elders were retired

  … and many that I did not know what their occupations were.

  Speculation? What would Watchtower be now if it had fully embraced the internet / technology 20 years ago

  so what would wt be now if it had encouraged it's members to use the internet or technology for spreading the good news.

  Modern technology ie. the www; has certainly exposed the Org for what it truly is; a farce. The only downside is that we did not have this technology back in 'our day'.

  Had we had this technology back in the 70's to 90's, then, IMO, the WTBTS as we know it today, would be nothing more than a minority religion, scrabbling 'for crumbs' to find to some relevance.

  Some recent baptism figures in the UK - is there a "bounce back"?

  well, round my way (south of the uk) all the way up to and including the regional conventions this summer, baptism numbers have been extremely low.

  but i have just received news of three recent circuit assembly days where the figures seem to be higher.

  (all have been across the last three weekends at a uk assembly hall in october).

  The Organisation and its current leadership today is nothing in comparison to what we experienced in the 80 / 90's.

  W.ORG ! ..... you might as well bow down to the 'golden calf' in the days of the ancient Israelites.

  PS: My post is not aimed at those who came afterward afterward as they are possibly none the wiser.

  CO visits me today

  i'm at home and hear knock on door , i sneak and look i see two men and recognise one voice and go back into lonunge and ask wife ( who is inactive believer) does she want to speak to elders ,she says no ,then literally 3 minutes has pasted another knock the 3 minutes seemed like an eternity.

  so brave heart me think fuck it i'll answer ,i invite them in for coffee, i recognise one older man he is a unique elder who i genuinely was fond of when i was in his name is andrew ,the other guy i didn't recognise we will call harry ( not real name australia doesn't have that many cos with his same name).

  so i think to myself i will tread lightly and not cause to much of a fuss for the wife's sake, but my personality is very the opposite of treading lightly ,as you read my threads you will realise i'm not timid.

  i have done this exactly as quoted more than once.

  i ask elder if it's better to hide serious sin or reveal, of course we know the answer.

  then i ask them to explain elders book page 38 paragraph 19, which say it's sometimes ok for elder who has committed immorality and has kept it secret to continue serving as elder.

  One set for the 'higher' echelons, and one for the R & F.

  shepherd the flock page 91. i remember this is one of the first things that concerned me as an elder because it seemed to sound like a person is guilty until proven innocent rather than 'love believes all things', especially given the word 'convinced' appears in bold.. then in a training video one elder said something like 'unless we are convinced of repentance the shepherd the flock book says we must disfellowship'.

  that was the begining of the end for me as i thought surely true christians would reason the other way round and show mercy wherever possible.. any thoughts?.

  How can the Org impose upon JC Elders the requirement to be convinced whether the person being ‘judged’ heart has changed?

  I am not knocking Elders however, are not they not imperfect men as is every human being? How can they, as imperfect beings, judge others?

  Does not the scripture at Jeremiah 17:10 read: “I, Jehovah, am searching the heart, examining the innermost thoughts, to give to each one according to his ways, according to the fruitage of his works”.

  Therefore, is not Jehovah the one who reads hearts? Yes, there are occasions where Elders judge a situation right however, what if they judge a situation wrong? If Jehovah is the one guiding the decision(s) of JC Elders, then how can there be wrong judgments?

  Although I was an MS, in hindsight, I’m glad that I was never appointed an Elder.

  Week 16 Since My Disfellowshipping - Update

  hi guys.

  i could really do with you advice regarding my current state since being disfellowshipped 16 weeks ago.. since being given the boot (i did try to fade but it failed) ive been on a rollacoaster of emotions.

  lately im getting frequent headaches, tiredness and i have about 3 or 4 thoughts running through my mind at all times.. im passed the sadness phase of discovering it's a cult.

  As has been suggested on other discussions, maybe it might be worthwhile having a few sessions with a counsellor - if only to make sense of some of your thought processes and to point you in a direction from which you can move forward.
