As an Anglican , l don't celebrate Halloween or eat black pudding , however l do know Christians who eat it with no bother . That is up to their conscience , no one judges .

after posting on another thread it became apparent to me that it can be difficult for some ex jws to totally shake off all wt teaching , even after leaving the org.
do you still feel guilty going into a church for a wedding or a funeral .
can you bring yourself to celebrate birthdays or christmas .

what would the outcome be among people at this site if we were able to conduct a poll on belief in evolution or in creation?.
what would the outcome be if at the same time we asked for religious affiliation (including formal, informal, or none)?
doug.
Evolution . l am a life long , church going , believing Anglican . l don't know any Christian who does not accept evolution . In my local church we have a science teacher and a retired research scientist . We believe in a Creator God who used evolution to bring about the world that we now know .

Do you still feel guilty going into a church for a wedding or a funeral . Can you bring yourself to celebrate birthdays or Christmas . Would you hesitate to accept a blood transfusion if you needed one ? Does the indoctrination that you received still work to put a barrier between you and the rest of society in the way it was intended to when you were "in " ?

we already know how jws will respond ( on a pole).
but i found an article that talks about jws views on how jesus died.
i didn't know that there was a time when jws accepted the cross unlike now.
Gee guys , thanks for your positive comments . Being on the outside looking in can sometimes make it easier to see what's going on .
I just read the OP on another thread about pomi JWs who have been disfellowshipped who still fear Armageddon . It seems that it can be really hard to get the brainwashing " washed out " . As l said before maybe that's another thread as we have slightly veered off from this OP .
I do think that a cross was used btw .

As l said before , surely the real reason that the WT makes a big deal of this is to separate JWs from other faith groups . Another " ya shucks boo to you, we've got the truth and you haven't " No Christmas , birthdays or blood are other methods of isolation and are ways to convince JWs that only the WT has the truth .
As an outsider looking in it also seems to me that these things also serve to screw with people's minds when they leave " the truth " . Maybe that should be another thread , which JW difference teaching lingers in the psyche when someone leaves the WT .

Trinitarians do not worship the cross , another JW myth .

Yes , it is true that the WT knowledge of Greek is limited , also that the WT did teach that Jesus died on a cross in its early years . You can find ( online ) early Watchtowers with not just the cross but masonic symbols as well .
Whatever the reason for the change in teaching l think that now it is another device to separate JWs from Christendom , that simple . It feeds their superior attitude " we are right you are wrong ". It also makes it more difficult for people who leave 'the truth ' to join another faith group , another mental barrier built in their minds .

domestic violence in the “tooth”... is this a thing?!.
you are starting to know me by now as i’m always full of questions... my clogs are always in motion and never stop... so another question for you to give me some guidance if you can.
based on pasts experience or cases you might heard of or seen, what advice could you give me in helping someone that is a jehovah witness, married with another jw but lives a marriage that is plagued by emotional domestic abuse and financial control?
"I'd be surprised if they weren't at the lower end of the spectrum though as their form of christianity typically promotes respect for women"
l don't agree with that . l have had conversations with male JWs , not just elders , and found them condescending because l am the " little woman " .
JW women aren't allowed to do anything other than make tea and clean up .
Anglicans have female vicars , one of the lay readers in my own church is female . l often do the readings and prayers in services as do other women . One of our church wardens is female . So for me the difference in attitude is obvious . They do not value women at all .
l also don't think that we can take Peter's comment to mean that women had to put up with violence , and l don't know any Christian who would use that to persuade someone to stay in a violent relationship .

according to mathew 6:9 jesus instructed his followers in, vs. 9 " you must pray, then this way "our father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified ..... which rank & file jehovah`s witnesses have been led to believe for the past 140 or so years is to make a personal name of god namely jehovah known to all of the world ,because as they have so loudly professed christendom has kept that name away from the general public.. not true ,raymundus martinus a spanish catholic monk of the 13th-14th century first coined that name for god and it has been used in and on churches throughout christendom in the world ever since.. true christendoms emphasis has been on witnessing about jesus christ which is what the new testament is all about, not jehovah god, but jesus christ .
phillipians 2 :9-11. in the new testament ,( cgs ) jesus christ is never recorded as saying the personal name of god ever.. " " none of the apostles are ever recorded as saying the personal name of god ever.. " " none of his disciples are ever recorded as saying the personal name of god ever.. the new testament ,christian greek scriptures are all about bearing witness about jesus christ and after his time of bringing back people under his kingdom will he turn then it back over to his father, a thousand years when his rule is finished.. that is the message of the"kingdom interlinear of the christian greek scriptures" published by the wtb&ts ,says..
So we don't know if the Divine Name is in the Autographs or not . Some THINK it would have been , but the WT make out that they know that it DEFINITELY was in and that it was taken out deliberately by nasty Christendom . They make this assertion with no proof , that seems to me to be the real issue . They use this non fact to attack Christendom , to keep their members suspicious and afraid of other Christian groups . l shouldn't say other because l don't believe that they are Christian .
