I don't believe that ending Mandated shunning would mean that people would have to talk to someone if they don't want to . It just gives the individual the power to make their own choices , and not to have to shun out of fear of being shunned themselves.
Isn't that what everyone wants ? The ability to make their own choices.

PetrW l don't understand your comment about the command form of the verb ' to love ' . Why would being told to love cause deaths ?
I genuinely don't get it .
Also l don't think that outlawing mandated shunning is the same as forcing people to love .

MeanMrMustard l do see your point but if the Watchtower removes the rules about shunning then the die hards will stop doing it , because as you say they just follow the rules . That will save many people a lot of misery.
I've never been shunned but the thought of being cut off from loved ones is heartbreaking. Anything that prevents someone from going through that nightmare has to be worth considering.

I fully understand that Lee . I was confused by NotFormer's post indicating that the campaign is called " shunning is a crime " and talking about sloppy wording . I was pointing out that actually the campaign is against mandated shunning, as in people being FORCED to shun . Which l thought was clear from the wording of your OP .

Am l missing something here ? The words MANDATED SHUNNING is in capital letters 6 times in the OP . I looked at the website and it clearly says that it's mandated shunning that it proposes to outlaw.

I don't think that making forced shunning illegal would take away an individual's rights to avoid people they don't like .
It would simply stop people like the GB of the Org. from forcing people to shun against their will .
It won't mean that people can be forced to associate with someone they don't trust or like or have nothing in common with .

even though i'm disfellowshiped ( & i belive wrongfully so).

i have been d'f for about 8 months now and working on reinstatement.
I don't think that Sue really wants answers. I'm starting to suspect that she is trying to bring us all into the Org.
I noted before, and will again , every time she gets argument against the Org ( or even good reasoning) she ignores all the advice that she " asked " for and starts another thread .

i know it changed.
pre1975 it was an attitude of "don't worry about retirement, this system is ending soon".
Going off piste for moment, Sue what do you think of the 1975 debacle? Does that show that the Org. are false prophets ?
Most people on here are out of the Watchtower, some because of the false prophecies.
Back on piste what on earth has anyone's finances got to do with the GB ?

i came from the world, so did not grow up in the truth and i have no family in the truth -- i am alone.. last year i met a brother & we did have premarital sex while we were dating.
