Nicolaou , of course l would attend a funeral or wedding of a friend in a different culture. I just wouldn't join in singing praises or say prayers to a god that l don't believe in .
I like Ed Sheeran ( l know ) but l understand that not everyone does . I wouldn't ask someone who can't stand his music to come to a concert with me . Does that make music divisive ?
We make decisions all the time about doing or not doing things based on all sorts of reasons.
I feel that the JW shadow still looms here. The WT deliberately makes it's followers shun the ' world ' in order to control them . So l suppose that it's natural for ex JWs to assume that other religions are the same .
Other religions don't do that , but each person has to stay true to themself. That's my point , l just wouldn't want anyone compromising themself to accommodate me .

Great Teacher, actually no , l haven't, which is terrible considering l only live 30 mins away.
It's weird that people don't necessarily take notice of things on their doorstep. We have a theme park called Drayton Manor here in Tamworth and l have only been there once to a firework display.
To Tammuf folk it's just the manor . We take it for granted yet people come from all over the place to visit.
An object lesson for all of us , appreciate what you have .

Nicolaou, that's a good question and something that l have never thought about. I would have to really consider how much of a part l would be comfortable in playing in an Eid or Diwali celebration. Certainly not to the point of praising a deity that l didn't believe in , l would feel hypocritical doing that.
I would not expect anyone else to compromise their beliefs. My husband isn't religious and although happy to attend social events at church like quizes he doesn't come to services and l would never try to make him do anything that he felt uncomfortable with .
Also l would not expect a Sikh or Hindu to attend a Christian service .

I don't see atheists as hypocritical for having parties, putting up trees etc . Nothing religious about that.
However for Richard Dawkins to sing songs of praise to the God that he has spent most of his life denying does seem hypocritical

How my awakening began.
by MissDaSilva inabout a month ago i started having a clear out of old clothes, books and bric a brac etc….. i don’t know what came over me but i decided to chuck out all my old jw literature because we literally have no more room.
it started with magazines, then books, ministry literature and once i started, couldn’t stop.

I know that most people who leave the WT become atheists. That is entirely each individual's choice .
However as a never been JW , lifelong Anglican l feel sad when l see all denominations lumped together with the Witnesses.
I see no similarities between the church that l belong to and JW teaching, even to the Bible that they use .
