  so i waz reading the august 15 wt study article, elisha saw fiery chariots, do you?

  and it made me think about this forum.

  if you remember, syria was hunting god's prophet, elisha.

  SFPW , I have never been a member of the Watchtower society. I am a Trinitarian Christian . Some years ago I thought that I was being led towards the Watchtower ., by various circumstances in my life . I had many dicussions with Witnesses and each time felt uneasy after . I have a fairly good knowledge of the Bible and much of what was said did not sit right with me . I looked further into the history of the organisation and found much that was wrong . Failed prophecies , wrong interpretaion and changing of scripture , just to name a few things .

  So I am not an ex JW with a grudge about treatment or disappointed by the many failed prophecies . Which by the way I have shown on another thread to be actual prophecies whatever the spin the Watchtower now puts on them . I have no personal axe to grind but I KNOW that the Watchtower is not God's organisation on Earth . If you want to come back to me for a non emotional discussion about scripture and history please do .

  Donating to charities discouraged by the WT

  hi everyone,.

  im trying to find articles from the wt and awake that show when the writers are discouraging charity work or giving.

  from any books would be good also..

  The bit in the article about money being wasted is interesting . I had a discussion with 2 JWs the other day about the poor and giving to charities which help them . The answer was that the hope that they ( the JWs ) had for the future meant that the poor would not be around forever ! I pointed out that Jesus said that while there were poor people on the Earth we should feed and clothe them . Then I got this almost lecture about how charities waste money given to them and you could not be sure that money given would get to where it was supposed to go .

  The ladies seem to think that this was total justification for not trying to help the needy in this world . So it seems that the org is managing to give the appearance of encouraging charitable giving while using subtle messaging to actually discourage it among the flock . Very clever .

  ok well...this week our study was ch.

  14 be honest in all things (notice the issue yet ha) in the "keep yourselves in gods love" book.

  in this ch we learnhow we should confess to the elders our sins and accept reproving with a humble heart because the elders arent the enemy, satan is.

  SFPW you call people self victims of 1975 , if the Watchtower never intended their "suggestions " to be taken so seriously why did they encourage people to sell homes and cars , cash in insurance policies etc because after 1975 they would not be needed ? Much has been said on this forum about this subject and I asked the question "after 1975 were people compensated for the huge financial losses that they had ? " the answer was no. People were told by word of mouth and in print that this" would be a fine thing to do "

  Regarding 1914 this is a direct quote from The Great Pyramid "written by CT Russell .

  " Call to mind that the scriptures SHOWED us that the full end of Gentile power in the world , and of the time of trouble which brings it's overthrow, WILL follow the end of A. D. 1914 and that some time before that date the last members of the Church of Christ WILL have been" changed " , glorified . "

  Capitals mine for emphasis .

  Does not seem a fairly confident prediction?

  The trouble is . of course, that if you are as you have said a born in , then 1975 particularly gives you a problem if your parents were alive then as even young adults . Are they in denial ,as many are ,about the events leading up to 1975 ? So many JWs coped with their disappointment by just starting to repeat to others the party line of self victimisation , over zealousness in interpretation of what was said etc and then began to believe it themselves because that was easier than facing the truth .

  Reading these posts must be difficult for you if you are genuine in what you are saying , but if truth is important to you then learn all you can from this forum . If you just want ot promote the Watchtower then you will ot have much success here , people on this most people on this forum have gone through the very painful process of waking up the the facts about the WAtchtower .

  I need help when answering proof of WT being only religion

  ok so i have already been talked to about this and i always have difficulty finding a retort.

  my friend/elder condtantly tells me to visit bethel to prove its gods org--efficient, obedient, loving place, yadda yadda.

  and he also uses how many go out and preach the same message, how no matter where you go youll get the same loving treatment, follow the bible as best they can (ha), show lots of love, do t celebrate pagan holidays, etc etc.

  o.k. did not realise that you had the problem of not upsetting your wife , that puts a different spin on things and my post above was not at all helpful . Sorry . Folks who have been in this situation are better qualified to help and I am glad that you are getting GOOD advice .

  I agree with the comment about each individual having love in their heart because we are told to love those that hate us not just those who think like we do , which is mostly the case for (active ) JWs .

  On how to answer the question about it being God's only organisation that depends how much you mind upsetting the person . If you are not bothered about their reaction just go for it , point out the false propecies , the blatant mis quoting in the literature , the adding of words to the Bible to suit them , the mistranslating of others for the same reason . Thre is plenty to say on the subject , it just depends on how tactful you need to be in your sutuation .

  o.k. I have not read the whole thread , but I want to ask can you shut your eyes to the documented and easily proved facts that the GB have lied repeatedly over the years , about the Un , about failed prophecey , even

  about what was actually predicted for 1914 (originally the end not the beggining of the end ). You only know what you are told about other religions , not what you know for yourself . The Watchtower is every bit as bad as other religions for hiding paedophiles etc . They mistranslate the Bible adding words to dramatically change the meaning of the message and mis translating others to suit their doctrines .

  I know that other denominations have faults but they do not pervert the Bible and deliberately misquote in their publications to support that perversion .

  Can you ignore these things ?

  i have just seen in the flesh , or paper , the new nwt .

  my witness friends were delighted with it showing me all the new features like the glossary of terms and explanations of the hows and whys .

  i did ask about actual content , acting daft not letting on that i knew anything about it .
