is most of the promotion of creationism, not just that by the wt, charlatanism?.
https://www.fullmoon.nu/sources.bak/chapter%2010/part%202/gish%20exposed.html [which has an article called "creationism: bad science or immoral pseudoscience?
- (an expose of creationist dr. duane gish)"] says the following.. 'a look at the "scientific" creationist movement and a close examination of the tactics of a well-known and influential creationist will reveal that the creation "science" movement gains much of its strength through the use of distortion and scientifically unethical tactics.. .... with the facts explained and the lawsuits won, scientists declared victory and returned to their labs and offices.
TD there are lots of serious scientists, as opposed to the funny kind , who are Christians.
I have mentioned before a chap called Hugh Ross who is a Canadian Astrophysicist. He has written several books including ' The Improbable Planet ' which gives a VERY detailed account of how the earth came to be . He and many others have no problem marrying faith and science together.
One of the lay readers in my church is a retired research scientist in the chemical industry .

I was looking back over past posts about this subject and came across this . It's 14yrs old . I wasn't aware of this and l am an Anglican!
There are some interesting points in OP . Well worth a read.

this has been weighing on my mind all day,.
i just have to vent and get this off my chest.. the latest jw brainwashing, indoctrination session i think it was a broadcast.
toward the end where the speaker was spouting-off about being in a 'race' again and 'enduring until the end',.
Are they using it in the sense of Armageddon is imminent? Which is their usual stick with which to beat their followers .
I just saw a man on a tractor zoom past shouting " the end is nigh , the end is nigh " .
I think it was Farmer Geddon .

Disillusioned JW . I had a look at that survey and another was conducted later which gave much lower figures .
These may well have been JWs and some Muslims as it just said that religious people were polled .
Certainly in the UK l would think that most young Muslims agree with evolution .
Creationism isn't an issue here , the vast majority of Brits give no thought to the subject at all . We are a much more secular society and Christians, other than JWs , have no problem with evolution.
Creationism is never mentioned in the media which it seems to be in the US as this battle rages.

Hi DisillusionedJW . Well you are kind of proving my point about American religion. JWs and Seventh Day Adventists both spread from America.
Yes there are lots of JWs in the UK but they believe what Americans tell them to .
I don't think that British religious groups only accept evolution just because Darwin was British. I believe that the vast majority of non American Christians are happy to accept evolution.
Schools in pretty much every country teach evolution. As far as l am aware it's only American Christians ( and l am aware not all ) that call for schools to teach 7 day creation.
If the word American has come up a lot in this post it's because the US appears to be the only country with this argument raging .

I have not read through the whole thread, just the OP and a few random posts .
However it seems to me that the OP only refers to religion in America.
News flash there are a few Christians dotted around in other countries.
I find myself constantly pointing this out on other sites, a lot on Quora. Religion in the US seems to have developed in a bubble. I don't know any 7 day creationists at all . The Church of England and l believe Catholic Church fully embrace evolution.
Tbh I'm not sure about British JWs but again religious ideas exported from America. .
Jan
i was googling the subject and came across this story.
i just had an incredible phone conversation with a long-time jw who has strong "q-anon" "sovereign citizen" beliefs.
the wife(first gen) says she is not surprised.
Wow TonusOH , absolutely incredible . As a Brit l had to Google QAnon . I really think that most Brits would have to .
As to Brit JWs l don't know but suspect that they would be as ignorant about it as the rest of the population.
My mind is totally boggled.

for those of you who still respect the bible, which translation/s are you using now?
why?.
Sorry that I've been a while getting back on .
The reason that l said no JW answers is because as with everything they only push their own agenda. The Tetragrammaton definitely was in the NT writings but was deliberately removed by apostates to back up false Trinitarian teachings . That kind of thing .
Then they choose to put the Divine Name back into the Bible to back up their teachings. Also their methodology for translating is at best in question .
I read the Howard pdf and to be honest while following their reasoning l still saw lots of
Reasonable to ASSUME
In his OPINION
Etc .
Also if l read it correctly the Tetragrammaton was sometimes substituted by other words in MSS of the OT . So this practice of substitution isn't a new thing for lots of reasons including honouring the Sacred nature of the Divine Name.
As l previously said for every scholar on one side of the debate there will be one on the other side . The point being that the matter is still under debate until proof is found to settle the matter.
It still just could , and l emphasise could , be possible that the writers of the NT deliberately used Kyrios etc. instead of God's personal name when quoting from the OT on purpose.
I didn't mean to sound bolshi about this and apologise if l did .
