Hey FC, actually there was a WT about a year ago that made a bit of that connection, albeit with a tender touch. I believe it had to do with gluttony.

Watchtower Birthday Logic
by enigma1863 inthe watchtower bases their opposition to birthdays by two scriptures, saying something bad happened and god must have put it in there for a reason.
following their logic are there any other things jws shouldnt do because bad things happened in a couple of scriptures?.

Ok so lets get to the meat of this thread. Are we drawing straws to determine who goes and writes up the notes?
I mean....someone has to.

Welcome Steve. I suppose the group has welcomed you even though we are FAR over our attoted amount of limeys. So the majority has spoken i suppose.
Hey man, social reasons are a reason to leave any group when someone thinks they have power over you and can say any stupid thing with impugnity. You need to take it a step further, and research our religion. Now that your mind has been freed by this act, use it to stock up on knowledge, otherwise, you will just wander back.

Cobalt nailed it. Indoor plumbing!
Here is the set up. The explanation, is that bad things happened on those 2 days, and all scripture is inspired etc... This is besides the charge that primitive Christians didn't celebrate their birthdays which I am not even sure is true.
Anyways, there are only two mentions of indoor plumbing in the bible. Eglong (sp?) was a king that was super fat. One of Isreals judges ran his sword into his belly until he couldn't see it when he was on the .....err.....throne.
Moses mocked a false God during the test in the valley, saying he wasn't answering his prophets because he was "in the privy".
Thats it. A false God in the pooper, and a fat bad king that Jehovah killed through a judge BOTH with indoor plumbing.
That is why I dutifully dig a hole in my yard.

I'm turning myself in. Lurking elders, are you listening?
by Eve Deceived ini think it's fitting for my very first post to be a thread on jw.net turning myself in to any lurking elders out there on a witch-hunt to cleanse the congregation so that god's choosen ones can "remain in god's love.
" so i'm sorry to all you awesome, truthful apostates on this site, but this thread is really intended for any lurking nazis -- i mean, the taliban -- ugh, i mean elders of the world's most "loving" cult religion.. i am an apostate.
here, i'll save you the trouble:.

Hey elizabeth. A pretty prominent elder on Kauai went to the dark side several years ago. Vinny i believe was his name. He defected over the blood doctrine. You might want to look him up.
Take it easy on your family.....they are subject to a high control group and don't even know it.

Daily Text for February 28, 2013 !!! ENJOY !!!!!!!!
by DATA-DOG inthursday, february 28. jehovah will make known who belongs to him.-num.
16:5. korah lost sight of the fact that jehovah was directing the nation of israel and consequently failed to show loyalty to those whom god was using.
how much wiser it would have been for korah to wait on jehovah for a clearer understanding or for adjustments if those were really needed.

Mr Alec Holmes Detective!
The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the seat of Moses.
Your point is well taken. One of my earlier posts was kind of a research question. I "recall" more than a couple atricles of the "study edition" of the Watchtower where these kind of comparrisons were being made. Basically, in each scenario, the society is making themselves analgous to Moses.
I think this is damnign when taken in the light of the scripture you just shared. Anyone have any refferences or remember the articles I am referring to?

Why I think (in a nutshell) why this org is approaching collapse
by cptkirk inin a nutshell: i think that (and i do not enjoy thinking about this)...i think that the crazies within the religion (who range from just low level people to co elder do and up) have won so many battles at this point (over the more balanced people/ideas)......that the people who tend to think in a more balanced fashion (whether they themselves be low level or higher up) are getting to be the real minority.
i think this dynamic, will be what finally sinks the ship.. as we see with any organization (corporate or otherwise), many times there are reports that make you wonder (how is this thing alive or prospering?
), and upon closer scrutiny, there are strong people in the background holding the walls up (who themselves get little attention).

Caserious,
Honestly man, every time I want to make a point it seems you have made the identical one. We are going to have to meet sometime.
I agree with what you said regarding Scientology. I just finished "Going Clear", and I would highly recommend the book. The similarities are amazing. Sure the JW's may not bug your phones or encourage abortions at the risk of disconnection (their "disfellowshipping"), but the end tactics are very similar, with less evil attached. Yet truthfully, Scientology continues to grow. Its a "whatever works for you" kind of thing. And Scientology will have the good sense to get rid of their space opera and some of the more crazy aspects of their religion which will be reserved for only a few at the top. They will do this because to focus on the small bit of good, and somewhat more reasonable traits of the church (cult), is what will keep them in the green.
JW's I think will continue to survive. They aren't going anywhere. Our collective experience is still so small that it can't form realization of a trend. With the society unwilling to devulge statistics of disfellowshipping, DA'ing, and so many other things, we can only read from the margins. We can't be dogmatic. So while their growth basically is just above population growth, they are savy enough to make some adjustments, slowly eek away from the more crazy doctrine, and stick around. That is just the truth.
It is interesting to me that Scientology has caught the attention of the population at large. Probably because of the celebrity factor, and the extreme cases of abuse not just in theory or perception, but in practice. In practice at the highest levels. They are much smaller than JW's and have many similar enforcements.
Ethics comittee's = Elders/JC's
SP's (suppresive persons or "Declared a Supressive Person") = Apostate
PTS (Potential Trouble Source) = Kind of like reproving.
Disconnected = Disfellowshipped.
They were in many ways contemporary groups although their philosophys are very different. JW's are like Scientology "light" in aspects of community. Yet Scientology gets the press on the crazy. JW's get a pass from the public at large.
Why do you guys think that is? Why can our dissenters not get an article in the New Yorker, or a tell all book including independant research on Rutherford and the birth of disfellowshipping through Olyn Moyle? These seem like compelling stories even outside our collective understanding.

Resigned being an elder
by subytrek ini am new here and this is my first post although i have lurked here for a couple years.

Thanks for sharing that suby. Its intersting that so many of us are not doing what we are told apostates do. We are told those falling away are "mentally diseased", and revert back to the "world" from whence they came to smoke crack and have all the orgys they can handle While they last).
Here you and basically myself as well (we are about the same age), are born in, move up in the congregation, and end up having doubts because of common sense things. i also have a young child around the age as yours. Weird right? i spoke with a friend of mine the other day, and he said he noticed alot of people leaving in their late 20's to late 30's. Interesting that is the time you start to have kids and think of family on a different level.
I was an online JW apologist. I defended everything imaginable. I tried to do so kindly, and appreciated and studied under some other apologists. Here is what did it for me initially.
Blood. The current stance on blood is indefensible. Making people chose between being disfellowshipped, or seeing a loved one die is just evil at best. From a biblical standpoint, it can't be defended. From a POLICY standpoint with what we allow and don't allow.....it can't be defended. Once (like you), I started giving up the notion that I had to defend every "attack" as a lie, I learned most of them were not. My empathy and desire to live an authentic life kicked in.
Do not be surprised, if your mind does a few back flips here and there. Its a process. Stick around, PM if you need help or feel like talking, don't reveal too much, and take care of your family.
