Comment from my dad, "They are smarter than me."

my jw (converts of about 5 years) came over on thursday and ate a turkey dinner with us.

we didn't call it thanksgiving, but that was obviously what it was.

they were proud to give me my own copy of the new revised and improved nwt bible.

I have heard this. I don't think its new. In discussing the blood doctrine for example, on several occasions I have been asked, "Do you think you're smarter than these brothers?".

In other words, because they are impressed, they could not even see the possibility of the GB or branch being wrong, and you being right.

I tried a few different responses but none of them worked out well. I pulled out the scripture that says Jesus chose the simple things of the world to put the others to shame......I forgot the exact rendering. I tried asking how they knew how smart these people were or were not.

Its just a submission thing. Yes its a nice app. There are lots of nice apps. The GB did not build those apps. What does their intelligence relative to anyone else have to do with anything?

before i dive into the actual write-up of this experience, let me put some things straight.. i have thought long and hard if i should write more about my experiences during the 10+ years at different branches.

during these years i worked from financial department, service department, home office and different it assignments.

as you can imagine one sees and hears and reads a lot of stuff going through different stations in different countries.

The JW model for "punishment" of wrong acts is not contained in scripture. There are no meetings with 3 elders in the bible. There are no disfellowshippings with pre determined timelines, and a groveling abck to the men that kicked you out in the beginning. While the elders here spoke very softly, they were very unkind. Why reject her? What do they gain? Complicated personal matters aside, who cares if she said hi to someone in a McDonalds? The worst thing that was happening there was that people were eating McDonalds! How does that constitute a "bad report"? Who are these people to tell her that the people making these charges are to remain annonymous, yet they are taken seriously and as truth?

These men don't have the right to strip others of their human dignity. It is not only un-Christlike, but simply not the way to treat another person.

My question to thedog would be, wht justification do you believe these men had to act in this manner?

The elders came by and my DA letter

the lead elder co of my hall said he was going to push for a jc meeting.

i could tell all along all hes interested in is protecting his god the org.. so i'm 90% sure now of going on the offesive and first having a family meeting telling them i'm offically quitting and how its going to play out and how i'll will be shunned even though i have commited no sin.

i also may explain a little of why and how i came to this decision with out bashing the org to much out of respect for my wife.

I understand. Thanks for sharing that. I guess my immediate thought is, how does your DA impact your family, vs you playign the game and NOT gettign disfellowshipped?

Its not about groveling. You don't even have to meet witht hem. All you have to do is say you ahven't been to meetings, you aren't starting a sect, you have not commited a sin to be disfellowshipped for, and you consider their attempts to further contact you to be harrasment.

Ask for their accusations in writing perhaps?

I would say if you really want to go out in a blaze of glory, go in there and record the nonsense. Seriously. Record all of the ridiculous comments these guys would make. Don't feel comfortable sharing your voice? We can do a transcript. But lets expose these practices if you have made up your mind about DAing. Recording is a great weapon in this. It simply cannot be ignored. The "secret meetings" are not secret any longer. You just maintain your cool, explain that you simply feel differently about the religion of your youth, and that is it. No sect creating, you are not spreading lies, you are not sinning. What reason could they possibly have for disconnecting you? Get it on tape!

I personally would never allow them to kick me out for the sole reason that it would lessen my impact on friends and family that I wish to try to help.

I share the thoughts of many others here. Writing a letter to disassociate yourself is playing by their rules. If you don't mind me asking, why is it they are trying to have ajudicial commitee come after you? What according to your former religion have you sinned in doing that would warrant your actions?

If your goal is to help your wife and children, this act might have the opposite affect would it not?

These letters people send are usually only for the writer. The guys that read them usually just say "ok well.......guess we don't ened a JC anymore. Send in form ____ to the branch and bro Stickit would you like to inform the congregation this thursday? Ok next issue, do we change our gate entry code to 1914, or 607."

Seriously man, it won't have an impact.

I told the elders that I would take blood and donate blood

i found it important to be honest with my wife.

so i told her about my conscience decision that in a medical urgency i want blodless medicine but if a transfusion of blood or the 4 prohibited components is necessary to save my life or health i would accept it.

this would apply especially also for our child (that is not such a problem as in our country the wts recommends to comply with doctors as they have the right to decide concerning minors).. i showed her the reasons why i came to that conscience decision (biblical and logical reasons) and that jehovah and jesus do not like anyone to die because of this wrong bible application.. .

Hey Daniel,

Be careful. The loving and kind nes will cut you off too. When people are honestly presented with things they simply cannot answer due to the level of illogical acceptance required....it becomes uncomfortable. It can sometimes be easier then to revert to "waiting on Jehovah" or "protect the congregation".......the modes of coping really.

So just handle it with kid gloves.

I'm curious, did you mention white blood cells being forbidden is even a lesser fraction of Albumin which is accepted? I always go with that one, because it is just impossible. Blood is a bunch of plasma with stuff in in. Some of that stuff is forbidden, some of it is cool by the slave. Who determines it and why? Its just nuts!

Letter I wrote to the person the caused me to be disfellowshipped

a thread on another forum reminded me of a letter i wrote to the person that went to the elders and started the proceedings to have me disfellowshipped.

i stopped believing in the religion when i was 25 but continued going for about ten years.

i finally started to fade at 35, but about 6 months after i had stopped going to meetings, a person wrote a letter to the elders about my website, which at the time was anonymous.
