just had my 1day assembly this weekend.
an experience given by the bethel speaker was quite troubling and shows how jw's live in constant paranoia, anxiety and they isolate themselves from normal living.. a first grade class was having a fire drill.
everyone ( except one) lined up and stood outside away fron the classroom in the grass.
This made me angry.
Imagine, this child knows things are wrong, but can't determine why. So he hasn't even been given the most basic thinking ability that a child or anyone should have access to. Reason.
He sat with his head in his arms!
And everyone clapped and laughed like this was a good thing. I am so glad my wife is not going, so I don't have to worry about my son being taught this nonsense.
in pharell's song "happy" there's a line that says "cause happiness is the truth".
how many times do you think that line has been used in a comment or a talk by now?.

in the meantime, everyday i am discovering so much about being a jw i never knew, like don't buy girl scout cookies, that i keep asking myself "what have i got myself into".. maat.

So I see you watched "Real Time" with Bill Maher as well eh? My wife and I looked at each other and said......"we don't"? We literally had a box of Samoas in the cupboard. Honestly, that is not really true. nothing written about it. it is assumed, and I am sure some make a big deal about it. Your average JW though wouldn't think twice. I wish instead he would have used "blood transfusions".
Then we laughed because we said "we".....hilarious! My wife has not been to a meeting for only 10 weeks, and is in the early stages....but if it could happen with her, it could happen with anyone. She was a pioneer for 16 years (we are only in our 30's), and was the golden girl of the circuit.

i got a call the other day, it looks like the gb is telling everyone to contact all inactive ones, let them know they are missed, etc, and to do it within a week.

Interesting you said that. I have often wondered if my elders locally are just aloof, don't care, or don't want a piece of this.
I suspect its a bit of all three, but maybe they also are respecting my space as many people tend to do.
I will make sure to think of it in those terms, rather than negative ones.

What a loss. Much respect to a brave and courageous man. I hope he knows there are many with sincere appreciation not just for what he provided, but even in getting caught, he just makes them more paranoid. Its fantastic.

I would recommend the book "Going Clear" written by a staff writer for the New Yorker. Just a great book.
It is very interesting how things came to be with Scientology, and there are many parallels to JW's (this article is FULL of them), but not so much that a persons red flags go off. Its a great book to give to family or friends still in to learn about another religion.

i have been trying to live my life as best that i can since leaving jehovah's witnesses.
my dad was not a witness and was my rock when i left the religion.

Oye vey. We really need to create a best of. I know there are some out there, but more and more of these quotes are mined. Also when it comes to things regarding blood for example. I seem to always read something new on it from Terry or TD. I would love to compile the points. An UNreasoning book if you will.

as of yet, no member of the jehovah's witness faith can defend their unique beliefs.
when the dust settles, it all comes down to blind faith in men's ever-changing ideas.
this "unique belief" was not a "true teaching of the bible.

admittedly, i haven't been keeping up the way i used to.
i just saw on jw.org a publication entitled "research guide for jehovah's witnesses".
Here is my thought. The reasoning book has long been out of date. THIS "research guide" is its replacement. After all, they have already done the research on these subjects for the WT articles, why not just have a fastrack link to them?
Just my personal thought on it.
