Quirky I get your meaning.....but the issue is that you are coloring what you tell others through the lenses of your own experience. Some people kill themselves when they are disfellowshipped.....much less choosing to leave.
The toll, the amount of manipulation, the affect on someones life......it is all very personal and individual.
Even in your own admission.....it isn't simply "just leave".
Some people to be quite honest, once they have been in, do better in that structure than without it. They don't HAVE to.....they just do.

"at that time, the lifesaving direction that we receive from jehovahs organization may not appear practical from a human standpoint.
all of us must be ready to obey any instructions we may receive, whether these appear sound from a strategic or human standpoint or not.".
Guys blood is off the table. Seriously.
They already changed the policy in the back room, to make sure nobody is shunned for it, but it is still enforceable (just see the story of Daniel 1555 here).
I think the resulting purge would be catostrophic. Legally and otherwise, it simply could not be explained away. Blood.......not happening.
Perhaps changing the laws regarding family members and disfellowshipped ones. Now THAT I see happening. Its bad press, nobody gets it, it is responsible for some of the weirest strangest things being followed (that 55 year old man was disfellowshipped when he was 15 so I can't talk to him at his brothers funeral, yadda yadda).
I stand by the removal of the magazine name Watchtower in favor of JW.org with a new header, and/or changing in how shunning is carried out within families. Maybe not even those.
I am pretty sure if it was common knowledge among CO's, we would have already gotten wind of it. Haha.
a minny man in a local congregation has a beard...he was bullied by the elders to remove it.. then the co came along and told the elders to allow him to keep his beard.
(not as the result of any skin condition or anything).. i kid you not!!!.

There was a congregation in San Diego, where an MS had a well trimmed beard, and he didn't want to shave it. the brothers asked him his reasons for having it and they agreed with him. They called the CO and the CO said he would wait to see how it played out in the congregation.
He gave a public talk with that beard. Gave other parts as well. One or two people had something to say, so the elders reported it back to him and asked him what he wanted to do.
He decided "unity" was more important than his beard and he shaved it so as not to be a distraction. That all happened this year.
ALL THIS MESS OVER SOME FACIAL HAIR.
And in the end.......see how cool and reasonable everyone was? hA!

we recently went to visit her parents that know that we don't go to the meetings, and it bothers them but they don't know what to do, as they really can't do much.
hey its his house...his prayer....let him say what he feels. No reason to leave early over it. This is especially true if they aren't shunning you. Don't push people away in anticipation of them doing it. It becomes self fulfilling prophecy.
"So", is great. I can't be that aloof with my mother. She says something like that, I simply say 2 things.
1) There is so much going on in the organization right now that has nothing to do with jehovah, that to support it would bother my conscience. And if I go against my conscience, I am sinning (James). So I have to follow my bible trained conscience.
The inevitable question......."Like what? What things?"
2) It is really important for me not to affect the faith of others negatively, so I would rather not discuss it so as not to have a negative impact on you while not meaning to. I love you too much to do that.

While it's true that the comments by that judge show how perverted the world has become, I would like to mention that marriage between siblings has nothing inherently immoral, other than the high possibility of producing children with congenital defects.
Marriage between siblings and close relatives was practiced at the beginning of humankind, and we don't know whether it will be allowed again in the new world, when imperfection is removed.

well after an almost 4 year sucessful fade including a move, they found me.
i was not home at the time, but they were asking all sorts of questions about me and my family, who lives where etc.
of course it was one of the busybody families in my former congregation.
They will come. If you know them, you will be friendly. If they ask questions, just say "I think I'd rather not say......may I ask what brings you by?"
I mean....get right to it. If they say its for encouragement or something of the sort, just say no need thank you. You do not intend on attending meetings.
Thats it! Nothing to be disfellowshipped for or anything else.
