I have heard the phrase "the door is closing" a few times over the past few weeks.
I think it was something heavily picked up on from the convension.
i am in my early 30s and woke up to ttatt in late 2012. my dad just turned 65 in june!
wow, i never saw that being possible.. .
he just got himself a computer and was able to get internet in a remote location where he is serving as an elder with my mom (where the need is great) i was happy to see how he was able to send me a few notes saying hi and i was able to share some pictures of my wife and family, etc.. .

we have just published a new article at ajwrb entitled:.
watchtower approved blood transfusions.

Also Lee, in your article you claim blood donation is allowed if that blood will be used soley for fractioning purposes. Is there a refference for this bit of information?

Well done Lee. This is a hot topic for me, as it was the first brick to fall.
It is simply indefensible. I don't know much about the story of your organization, and it has seemed dormant for a while. Can you help me understand you guys further?

Bohm,
You asked me my opinion earlier and it got buried. i did not mean to ignore you.....and then this discussion went a bit ugly.
I think its clear what Dawkins meant, and why he said it. I don't have an issue with the greater point he made which is that todays standards judging a different time period in human and cultural evolution is a little rough. However......we aren't talking centuries ago. We are talking about a few decades. WHat is more, is he is filtering everything related to what he classified poorly as "mild pedophilis (sp?)", through his own experience which "didn't cause much harm".
That is an arrogant statement at best, and ignornant and lacking in normal human empathy at worst. People react to things differently. A grown man "touching up" on a school boy could do crazy damage to that boy, and it has been proven over and over again that people who allow themselves to do that sort of thing, escalate, and treat different victims differently.
Conflating it with racism is simply I do not believe, analgous to this situation for a variety of reasons.
He might have been trying to make a greater point about cultural shifts and the evolving concious of humanity......but he did so by calling something that has and does cause harm to countless thousands.....not really a big deal.
In doing so, because he is under a microscope, he comes off as a loon to the general public and hurts his cause.
I am sure he would tell you he doesn't care.
always the fashionista amongst the governing body members, mr. stephen lett recently showed us how even an older man can display a certain swagger, a certain je nesais quoi that says, "i'm one of the anointed, and you're not!".
he does this in so many ways, but the one i want to draw our attention to is the way he rocked the theocratic fashion world with his wearing of a very manly pinkie ring in a recent wtbts video.. - -.

Someone mentioned him not blinking. This means he was reading. We instinctively have a hard time blinking when our eyes converge to read.

Not just obligatory.....WILDLY obligatory.
Dangit gays......even your forced obligatory homosexuality we will all be pressed into.....has to be done with flair!?

.. .. an austrian man has won the right to wear a plastic colander on his head in his driving license photo, by apparently insisting that the kitchenware was a part of his religion.. niko alm decided to wear a pasta strainer on the document after he read that headwear is only allowed on official documentation, such as driving licenses, on religious grounds.. he submitted his application to wear the pasta strainer three years ago, citing he was a pastafarian the name given to a member of the church of the flying spaghetti monster.. the us-based parody-religion made headlines last month, when guy albon, a member from adelaide, used a photo of him wearing a metal colander on his gun license photo.
officials feared the photo suggested he did not have the mental competency to hold the license.. on its website, the leaders of the religion claim to have existed in secrecy for hundreds of years and claim to have atheists, agnostics, christians, muslims and hindus among their members.. niko alm who won the right to wear a colander on his head in his driving licence niko alm who won the right to wear a colander on his head in his driving licence following the confirmation, mr alm wrote on his blog: my headwear has now been recognised by the republic of austria.. however, a police spokesperson in vienna said: the photo was not approved on religious grounds.
FSm be praised. Didn't a man in local government in New York wear this on his head while being sworn in?

Village girl is correct, racism is not analgous. Acceptable pedophilia could maybe be described as Greek era thinking. But after the age of enlightenment, and certainly inthe 20th century, it is universally agreed upon (minus NAMBLA) to be disgusting.
Dawkins said what he said. No doubt he meant it. its this type of lack of empathy or desire to comprehend experiences other than your own, that make this guy a polarizing figure, and kind of a dick.
i have also attended spanish congregations.
this has helped me to understand and respect totally different perspectives and narratives on race.
please be respectful during this discussion.
KHM,
While not black myself, my congregation was very mixed, and I moved to Long Beach at one point and was in a predominaltly black congregation for years.
So I empathize with your statements. There is a sub culture within the JW culture that is the black JW culture. It is distrustful of leadership, but takes care of its own. It secretly rejoices when Sam Heard is appointed, or Ralph Walls gets more responsability. Black men of oversight in bethel pick out black applicants, and white pick out white. All of this I know first hand although of course it is not universal.
Remember, every "celebrity" JW of note, is black. Why is that? About 24% of the org in the USA is black. Way higher than population %. In fact that is the highest percentage outside of southern baptist traditionally black churches (like the one your family goes to no doubt).
So to me the really important question is, what is it about his religion that is so appealing to black men and women.
Thoughts?
when i read coc, i was stunned that the 2 elders (theotis french & rob dibble) were on ray franz judcial committee.
i have known these men for over 20 years having done rbc and convention work with them.
they are still elders today which means they were in their early 30's(which is unheard of for a case of this importance to have inexperienced elders to sit on) on this committee.. without revealing myself, i have never tried(but have wanted to), ask them about their on having to judge a former gb member.. then out of the blue, about a year ago, i was mentioning how hard it is trying to get younger ones to volunteer to one of these elders, and he says"this is nothing compared to to sitting on the committee that had to disfellowship ray franz".
James,
THANK you for sharing that. Not surprising, but oh how informative. It sounds like your friends knew instinctively that they were incorrect. You mentioned nothing in their elders book abotu being DF'd for having a meal with one already DF'd.....but was there an elders book back in the 80's? I don't recall the 80's incarnation of an elders book.
It is also interesting, that they chose such young ones, who OBVIOUSLY would do whatever they were told.
Very calculated.
