Dating between JW and non-JW

i am an outsider ( a non jw from ) and just accidentally happened to follow a link to this site.

i have found these postings really interesting.

i would like to tell you a little story of my own too: i was a while ago in a situation where a dated a jw girl.

I've been where you are - a long time ago and I know it's very difficult, but you were wise to break it off. If you realize the JW religion doesn't make sense and you could never believe their way, the relationship will never go anywhere. Perhaps if your friend goes through this enough, finding people she cares about who she is not allowed to have normal relationships with, eventually she will see the 'truth' about the "Truth" but unfortunately it's not likely to happen too soon.

I wish you luck and I hope you enjoy it here. It's a fascinating place.

I Need Help Please!!!

i'm a 24yr old non-witness who has been dating a 23yr old witness.

we met through a mutual friend.

when i met him i thought he was sweet and kind and the kind of guy i could see myself with for the rest of my life.

I was 21 when I went through this - he didn't tell me he was a witness until after we'd been dating for a while. He wanted me to convert of course, and I couldn't - we argued scripture constantly, faught over our beliefs and made each other miserable. He wanted to get married before he got baptised so they wouldn't be able to disfellowship him for it. His friends in the 'Truth' were miserable to him, using emotional blackmail to hurt him. His family wasn't in the 'Truth' so I didn't have that added pressure, but he thought of his congregation as more important to him than his own family so their opinions mattered more to him.

In the end I walked away. I thought I was giving up the love of my life forever - and a year later I met someone who could put me first, shared my belief system, and didn't have to lie to anyone about our relationship. We've been married 10 years and I know I did the right thing.

My advice would be to save yourself - get away while you still can. If you love him tell him to give you a call when he's free of the Watchtower then go live your life and don't expect to hear from him. If he has to choose you over his family and his faith the guilt will be unbearable and you will be in the middle. His family will consider you the cause of his problems and they will likely never accept you, that's no way to have a relationship or a marriage.

Please keep us posted, and I hope you are able to make the decisions that will be best for your future. Please read the stories people have posted here and think long and hard before you make any decisions that will change your life.

They were treated like so much dirt, and that isn't right, and it got my blood boiling. It still does. Men and women should be equals, treated equally.

I absolutely agree, and one of the reasons I joined this board and I keep coming here is for the chance to help someone who may be going through what I went through with my experiences with JWs. I saw the inequality first hand, not to mention the emotional blackmail, the arrogance and the cruelty that was dished out to women and men who were looking for spiritual security and basically ended up in a psychological prison.

I've always applauded Simon for his efforts here and if our ranting, bickering or just plain discussions can help someone see the truth about the "Truth" it will be worth it.

SYN, you're misunderstanding me. You wrote:

Hope I don't ever meet you in Field Service! You seem pretty nasty! Nearly as bad as the Dubs, in fact. You only want to destroy fully half of the human race, but they want to destroy 99.9% of it...well I guess it's true what they say, you get all kinds of people on discussion boards...

First off, I was never a JW - so no worries about meeting me in field service. Second I don't WANT to do any such thing and I never said that I did, so please relax. I'm trying to say that through scientific means, IF something happened to the male population the female population has the medical technology at hand to repopulate and if all the males disappeared, it stands to reason that perhaps the remaining females would institute a matriarchal society - it's been examined in science fiction a number of times as someone mentioned. IF on the other hand all the females disappeared, the remaining males would have a much harder time repopulating because they would have to find a way to create an artificial womb which as far as I know does not have an existing prototype yet. I'm not saying it couldn't be done, but it would be a lot more difficult for the men since the technology already exists for the women to reproduce by themselves.

Sorry if I upset you. I was speaking philosophically, not literally.

True, but some of the babies born through artificial insemination would be male, and they would generate new sperm, whether or not they were then permitted full rights as citizens would be decided by the females in charge. I'm not saying if every Y chromosome were destroyed, but if every existing male disappeared, the human race would not die out.

Paul was a mysogynist. Period. The idea that women are inferior to men came about when men realized women could do something they could not - create life, and women had long held the secrets about how to and not to do that. This undermined the authority of men, and so women had to be subjugated to keep them from attaining their natural place in the power structure. Prior to Christianity, women were the wise, the healers, often the leaders and the personification of diety which had been female in many cultures.

Today we are aware that women live longer and handle emotional and physical stress better than men. Female fetuses are stronger, more likely to survive premature birth and their hearts beat faster than those of male fetuses.

Women always have and always will be the stronger sex and the one more capable of survival without the other. If every man on earth disappeared today, the human race could continue using stored DNA in sperm banks, if the women disappeared the men would die out unless they could create an artificial womb.

a crafter!

i have sequins glued to my forehead, paint on my legs, and various craft articles strewn about me.

i think i may have sewn some ribbion to my shorts...*spins in a circle to check*.

Hi Joanna,

I'm a crafter from way back, I hot glue everything to everything - love maknig wreaths for all occasions, used to do counted cross stitch but gave that up when I discovered quilting, my new obsession. Now all I do is cut fabric and stitch ... I can't stop myself. Now I don't have time to make homemade candles anymore. <sigh>

I've done the macaroni pictures with my kids, sock puppets, painted flower pots, clothespin people and birhouses [covered with birdseed, not stuffed with flowers though.] Going to the craft store is a spiritual journey for me.

why is this day observed as jesus's birthday?

because some christians thought it was fine to mingle christianity with paganism.

Yada yada. Everything is a sign of the last days, there were signs of the last days in the 1st century and the end hasn't come yet. How sad that people actually think it's proper to live their lives in fear every day that the world will end.
