  i know there was a leak a few weeks back, but this really does seem to have come out of the blue.. the anomaly was the original decision.

  it clearly had no basis in law or the constitution, and was a flimsy, ridiculous ruling.

  Obviously the court system isn’t looking at the full picture here.

  You don't get it. That's not what their job is. They solely ruled on whether it was a constitutional right that the federal government should protect. It clearly wasn't.

  To make it easier to understand: please point to the part of the constitution that you believe guarantees the right to abortion. It isn't there. The thing that was used in the original ruling was laughable from a legal perspective as you could apply the same logic to stealing cars and murdering people. They have now corrected that faulty ruling.

  And the number of cases that are about rape are small, a tiny fraction. Same for incest and medical issues. I don't think I've seen many voices say no abortion for any reason at all. That's a straw-man.

  The original Roe vs Wade was decided by white men. This was decided by a more diverse group including black men and women.

  When Civil Rights legislation was passed in 1964, guess which party welcomed the aggrieved (former) Southern Democrats into their house?

  You're really struggling to turn it into "republicans bad" aren't you? They were way too forgiving - they should have annihilated and destroyed the dems from existence. But the fault for everything the racist KKK dem party did was still all on there.

  Actually Simon, they are public. Go see for yourself.

  I'm just not seeing what you are seeing. I don't see anything resolved there, any agreement reached or someone being reasonable or sorry for their attacks. If anything they seem determined that they are right and didn't do anything wrong, still mis-representing what I said and attempting to cause trouble.

  Like I said, actions speak loader than words and words online are cheap as chips.

  Did someone recommended it to you? Or you just watch it just because?

  Just because. I like quirky low-budget movies that are well done. That was low budget but 1,000x better than many big budget productions. Fantastic imagination and creative writing.

  Reminded me a little of "Time Lapse" in atmosphere and how it made you question things (not in plot at all). In that one, a group discovers a camera pointing at their window that takes pictures from 24 hours into the future.

  Sounds like 50 Shades of Grey? That was unwatchable ...

  We watched "Coherence" a few weeks ago. That's a low-budget movie but it was INCREDIBLE!

  I'm not going to give any spoilers, but it was a kind of down-to-earth / real life environment, but sci-fi. Very thought provoking.

  I love movies where I'm still thinking through implications and "what ifs" days later.

  Don't get me started on "Primer" ... that messes with your head, and warning: do NOT watch it with someone who doesn't pay attention to a movie and is prone to asking you "what's happening" or "who's he?"

  It may even help to watch the explainer before the movie ...

  Random thoughts on the Jubilee in the UK

  saluting the flag was something not encountered very often here in the 1970s uk, in fact that kind of nationalism or patriotism was something i'd been warned about as a young boy, being brought up in the jehovah's witnesses from age 4, through meetings and the publications.

  at some point, i don't know when, i decided it was more american, whether rightly or wrongly.. but even so, there was a large black and white photo of our entire school in panoramic format right outside my classroom on the wall saluting the flag, and i think this was the 1977 25 year jubilee of queen elizabeth ii.. now as a young person attending a fairly religious school in the 1970's, you were used to "making a stand" for things, letter in hand first day in a new class, and being ushered into one room or another to avoid religious assemblies and other xmas, and other seasonal celebrations.. one day the teachers, in their abundant wisdom, stood myself and a younger witness in the corridor right outside the assembly hall where the children would filter past.

  every second or third child that filtered past would ask, "why are you standing there?

  Teachers can be shitty people. I feel bad that you missed out, and didn't get the snack-food-feast I enjoyed.

  And back in the day, crisps had way more in the packet than the empty air-pockets we get nowadays.
