It's been very difficult in the UK because people are not naturally as 'forward' as some from other countries.
People are much more used to having a set price and being told what it is - it makes them more comfortable as otherwaise they're not sure how much they should give.
I know some either tell them a price or suggest that 'most people give us about xxp for them'.

Donation Arrangement
by Frenchy ini am curious as to how many of you are completely comfortable with the 'new' donation arrangement.
(okay, i know it's not new anymore but...) do you prefer it over the old way?
(i'd like to leave these two magazines with you for a contribution of fifty cents).

Whats your goals:
by jelly injust as a way to get a dialog started what do you people consider you 2 most important goals: one can be thoecratic and the other more pragmatic.
for example mine would be to (1) make all the meetings, ( sometimes i dont wake up on sundays until 5 or 6 pm) (2) get into better shape.
jelly isnt just a nickname its a description.

I've been promising to start excercising (don't even know how to spell it) for as long as I can remember.
As my two little boys get bigger I am starting to get more though. I take them for a wheeze in the park every weekend.
I wish they'd slow down and give me a chance! -

Suggestions for forums
by Simon ini've limited the number of forums until the user base has grown a bit...it will hopefully help us to congregate togther a bit until we get enough people to spread out.. if anyone has any suggestions for which forums they would like to see, please share them !

The three wise men
by Simon injust a thought.... looking through the greatest man book, something just occurred to me which i can't recall has ever been highlighted (but please correct me).. i always thought it a bit strange that jehovah allowed the three pagan astrologers to find jesus especially as they were obviously guided to him by satan's star (remember they were led to herod first who wanted to kill the messiah).
what purpose did it serve?.
well, a few pages earlier in tgm book, we see mary presenting a dove as a sin offering at the temple - this was the cheapest offering that was acceptable which must have meant that they were pretty poor at the time.. shortly after the three wise men visited the family had to flee to egypt when herod started to kill all the young boys in an attempt to kill jesus.. what would they need to travel and live as exiles for a couple of years?.

Yeah, that's true...
It's because there are three gifts mentioned we automatically assume there must have been one each. -

Yes, the USA is brilliant.
I found the people so friendly which is such a change for how most of 'us brits' are.
I want to emigrate! -

Would you listen to a rumour?
by Simon inremember that article brothers?we have been up and running for less than a week and already have had accusations of apostacy bandied about.please stop and think before you make a serious allegation like this.
imagine the hurt it would cause to a genuine brother if it wasn't true.this doesn't mean that we should let our guard down against those who would try and disrupt things or cause divisions amongst us but i'm sure these poeple would like nothing more than to see us fall out with each other.some of these rumours have been spread by members of other boards or people pretending to be them.just be on your guard to this sort of activity and help us by not passing on unfounded accusations.thank you.

Thanks, I appreciate your comments.
I've alread received numerous emails critical of the approach I'm taking to handling security but I think being confrontational and making too big an issue of things just makes things worse.
It's kinda like beeing a doorman/bouncer isn't it? A good one tries to avoid getting into a fight. -

Preaching_Work
by jelly inwhen do you think the preaching work will expand in china?
how about the middle east (iran, iraq, uae, etc)?
do you think the angels play a great role in getting honest harted people out of these countries( through emmigration) into lands where the preaching work is being conducted to a greater degree.
-
Simon
The world is changing fast...globalisation, western countries expanding into the far east and China, the Internet etc...
I'm sure any honest hearted ones will get a chance to hear the message before it's too late.
Maybe the work won't be as intense as in the West where there has been more freedom but with the spread of the Internet the restrictive regimes will find it harder and harder to stop information getting to people who need it. -
Simon
I don't know much about China or Iraq but there was a programme on Radio 4 (that's a very 'newsey' BBC radio station in the UK) talking about Iran and how they wanted to open the country up more to western tourists etc...
Maybe the preaching work can go in as the western culture becomes more acceptible?
