but the real question why does the society love their people dumb?.
I have not met many individuals, women or men, who are successful in life. Low paying jobs, trashy cars and even worse fashion sense.
My mom, who is Catholic, thought all the JW's were just white trash, okay, thats not all she thought. She said she thought that many of them looked like ex-druggies, bums and prostitutes. I started crying because so many of them were friends of mine, but when you take off the rose colored glasses, you see some of them for what they are.
must one get baptized (complete immersion) no matter how severe their handicap?.
(paragraph 2, sentence 3..."since baptism by complete immersion is a scriptural requirement, humans have no authority to exempt someone from baptism.".
my thoughts: what elder/co/do will dare take a risk in exempting one from baptism if they have been told by the society that no human has the authority to do this?
Well, to be baptized, one must be immersed. So, if you can't be immersed, you aren't a baptized Witness. The individual who was in the iron lung, never did get baptized, but they always referred to her as "Sister." Even tho ones like this cannot become baptized, the Society's view is the Jehovah reads the heart...Jehovah has had his angels mark individuals and that is the symbol that matters most. (This is what I have heard said about ones that can't take the medical risk).
here is the situation: my wife is a very faithful true believer (and a wonderful person, i will add, who really wants to do what's right) i have been da'd about a year, and we have 2 children.
our oldest is 13, and really buys into the witness line ( as, of course, i professed to until last summer) and i am fairly sure she is considering baptism.
here is my question: as one half of her parents, is there any legal doctrine that would allow me to prevent her baptism until she is 18?
I have not read all the responses, however, I would not encourage her "to do her own thing".
I would think about the reasons why you don't think its a good idea she gets baptized. Some kids get bp'd because their friends do it, some because their family has done it. I'd ask "why?"
Why does she want to become baptized? What are the baptism questions? Does she agree with them? Cuz I don't after the fact!!

I have heard it many many times, even at the Convention....and yes, the meetings, fs, study and prayer were the big things, then pebbles were put in, then sand and then water!
And it showed how you could fit all this stuff in your life if you put the right things in it first.
I am tired enough and actually less frustrated now than ever. I used to feel dread on BS and big meeting night. I used to wish to have a weekend off like the rest of the human race. I used to feel guilty if I stayed home on Saturdays.
it has been said that the jws hold to many beliefs that are unnsupported scripturally and inforce many 'unwritten' rules which they refer to as 'principles'.. i would like to start off the thread with what i think is the most important unbiblical teaching that they need to promote inorder to exist.. the watchtower teaches that "a prophet is able to make mistakes while he is speaking for god and still be considered as true.
mind you that these are not slips of the tounge but doctrines and predictions that have been promoted for years and have only been modified only after the watchtower had no choice but to change them.. this in my opinion is the most unscriptural teaching that the watchtower promotes.
if it werent for this teaching then the watchtower would most definately have to be marked as a false prophet!
What about blood? That if you take blood for medical purposes you are displeasing Jehovah, that you are not respecting the sanctity of blood, that you are not respecting the role of blood in the outworking of God's purpose ie the value of the blood in the ransom.
What about df'ing? Bible says to treat them as men of the nations, yet they shun them.
What about df'ing as punishment for past sins as opposed to their biblical example of the man sleeping with the mother in law? Ok, but they welcomed him back, doesn't say he had to come to the meetings for a year and be shunned.
And they say JW's don't break up families.......yet the WT says they can only speak to family members who live in the same household. UM where is THAT in the bible?
no teaching in the bible is clearer, more consistent, than the one which teaches that women are inferior to men.

furthermore, the evangelist paul says that he'll not abide women teaching men, and he refers to genesis to explain why.

marge was the mother of the jw man who brought me into the jws.
she had been a jw since the early 1950s, and attended the famous 1958 international convention at yankee stadium/polo grounds in new york.
marge was a very lovely person, hospitable, kind, generous, non-judgmental, and always a faithful jw.
I have known several anointed ones who felt the need to correspond with the Society. They felt that they should have been part of the group that directs the work.
It also seemed that some didn't feel they could talk to GC'ers about their feelings and wanted that connection to other anointeds.
Don't know what kind of response they got though.... well, the younger ones, I mean. The older ones I knew knew GB members and others at Bethel for a long time so they sometimes picked up the phone called them to talk.
now, first off, there's no such thing.. but, let's imagine that we live in the same dimension as buffy (most of the guys and a few of the women start paying attention), or the anne rice novels, blade, whatever.. vampires are real.
god is distant and removed.
there is an epic, but drawn out and irresolvable struggle between good and evil.
Since I was a kid, I have loved vampire and monster movies. I always thought it would be neat to live forever here on earth. (One reason being a JW appealed to me!) The only thing that I thought would be sad would be that ones close to you would die unless you turned them into a vampire also.
Then I saw the movie Blade and thought, Cool! You could marry a vampire and have your own vampire babies and you could all live forever and keep your identity to yourself. Just have to make real safe investments or you'd end up working forever, LITERALLY!

Judith is not one of the bible books ..... in most bibles. It is in the Catholic Bible, though, along with Maccabees, Wisdom and Ecclesiasticees (or something like that).
my eight year old daughter asked a very interesting and thought provoking question the other day and i thought i would ask it here.
she asked "if you were allowed to do something bad, what would it be?
" interestingly enough, both her and my son and me all picked the same thing, which was stealing.
Mine would be to somehow get millions of dollars, by hook or by crook!
