How Much is Shunning Worth?
by Xena inmy jw niece called me last night on the phone.
she is having a pampered chef party (for those of you who don't know what these are, it's like a tupperware party except they cook a meal and sell the cooking stuff).
it is going to be at my jw sister's house and all the dubs will be there....including my "best" friend who ratted me out to my sister regarding us celebrating christmas last year.. i am not invited....but my niece would like me to buy some stuff and to make up for shunning me she is offering to give me her hostess discount....woohoo huh?.

by TR inwas shopping at hastings video store tonight and saw cops cuffing some dude.
asked the store clerk wassup, and she said this dude was taking pics of little girls leaving a dance class next door.
was hoping the cops would open up a can of whoop-ass, but they didn't.

Very observant Lisa!! I think more parents should be aware of the ifs ands or buts around their neighborhood. The main problem is that parents think "it doesn't happen in our neighborhood" or they assume it only happens to minorities or apartment dwellers!!!

Sexual Offender in my hall.
by PandaJ inso my wife calls me and says, "my mom told me there is a sexual offender in our hall, but she won't tell me who!".
i have a small child, so i obviously want to know.
her mom tells her a website where she can search for sexual offenders, www.criminalfiles.info.

I would tell EVERY parent in the hall. I would probably do it by way of flyers or anonymous mail to their homes. A picture of the man and the sex offender list from the city with his name highlighted.
Mail yourself a flyer as well because after all the flyers are out, I'd go to the "brother" with your post-marked envelope with enclosed flyer and tell him what you saw on his computer, that you feel he could be molesting again and that you are watching him. After all, he is not supposed to be looking at porn on the net. Then tell the elders you got a flyer in the mail, its true because you sent it to yourself, and tell them about the porn on his computer!
I would make it extremely uncomfortable to be near your family and the families you know!!

Rebound Relationships
by onacruse ini really don't know where to start with this....it's so personal, and i'm so confused.
when i left bethel, i was a basket case, and married my first wife while i was still in mental/emotional limboland.
i loved her from the bottom of my heart (as best i can imagine what that means), and meant what i promised "till death do us part.

In the truth, rebound relationships end up in marriage. Whereas in the real world, a rebound relationship will go the way of the wind until you find the right partner, hopefully. Time is on your side now .......... no having to have chaperones, explain who "they" are, no questioning someone's elders or answering to your own.
When you meet a nice person and they live far away, you won't have to get them a hotel room........hell, they can sleep on the couch and the elders won't be assuming that because a person of the opposite sex spent the night in your house, that you slept together. You won't have to explain to elders why your date doesn't have at least 10 hours and that still makes him/her a nice person!!
Dating in the world is so much easier because you have time to get to know the person without having the pressure of automatically thinking/discussing marriage!!

JW's DO eat Blood
by Yerusalyim inwhy is it that jw's are so big on this no blood thing, yet still eat blood in their meat?
the dubs i know claim to "cook out" the blood, but this in no way meets biblical standards.
in fact the way meat is slaughtered doesn't come close to meeting kosher requirements in the bible.

In a Watching the World item, it was stated that hot-dogs contained blood. It was part of the "meat by-products" and it said a conscientious Christian would investigate the ingrediants of the hot dogs they buy. So, I started buying kosher hot-dogs ..... Hebrew Nationals. A couple other witnesses I knew did the same thing. What bothered me is that it was such a little article in the back of the Awake! If not eating blood was the big deal then it should have been a much more pronounced article!

Why Are JWs Allowed To Ignore Immigration Laws?
by ErieGuy inwe all know how the wts loves to toot their own horn about how jws are the most law abidding citizens in the world.
so then, why does the wts tolerate (encourage by its own inaction) the continuous ignorance of immigration laws?.
i have personally observed a whole host of illegal former canadians, mexicans, and central/south americans in congregations scatttered throughout the u.s. is the withholding of "privileges" sufficient conduct by those god told to obey all laws not conflicting wih his own?

Ozzie..... I was a regular pioneer until about 2 years ago. I only got df'd this year. We live in Los Angeles, most probably the land of the most illegal immigrants. Our sister hall was a Spanish hall. Even tho they had brothers filling the hall, most could not be used. They were always happy when one would marry a legal sister because soon the brother could be used once his status changed and he got his green card.
The position I stated IS the current position here in the USA.

Actually Ozzie, they are allowed to become baptized but are not allowed to hold priveleges other than that of a regular publisher. No mike handling, no ms or pioneers.
They base their stance on allowing one to become baptized on the letter from Paul to Philemon. The slave Onesimus, a fugitive, was allowed baptism even though in violation of the Roman law at the time. He was a runaway slave. Therefore, they allow Christian dedication and baptism (considered requirements from Jehovah, obeying God's Law, if one is to be a servant of God). But to have privileges, one must be above reproach even in the eyes of secular authorities....hence no privileges.
