  I agree with Rachel. I don't have an issue with eating meat as such. I have an issue with inhumane treatment of animals and torturous killing. I think that the amount of meat we eat (on average) is ridiculous. In times past a family might kill one bird every so often to feed a family, whereas nowadays a family could eat two chickens a week, plus other meat and meat products. Hence mass breeding to meet the demand.

  If you buy a genuine free range chicken now and then (priced at three or four times the price of supermarket chicken), then I don't have a problem with it as such.

  Fe203grl, I didn't know you were veggie back then! Having said that, it doesn't surprise me now that I know. You were not the "ordinary" dub.

  Who asked about Bacon Butties? A bacon buttie here is bacon slices between two slices of bread. A buttie in general is a slang word for "sandwich"

  The reasons that I want to be veggie are that I disagree with mass breeding for meat and all the horrid practices that come along with it. Also, I have seen evidence that a vegetarian diet (with dairy products included) is a very good diet indeed, health-wise. Spiritually speaking, it appeals to me to not be eating the flesh of an animal whose energy is permeated by pain and abuse.

  In the last few days I've eaten fish, but no meat products. Its been really easy! I know eating fish isn't technically "vegetarian" but I figure I can go in stages if I like. Last night we went out for dinner and nothing veggie looked good on the menu so I had the grilled salmon (YUM!).

  No. I have to make a decision.

  I think that for now I will cut out all meat, but I will allow fish. I don't eat much fish at all anyway (once a week). Then if I decide to, I will cut fish out after that.

  As for Dairy, there is no way in this universe I can cut out CHEESE!

  Between 60 and 80 million tons of fish are caught from the seas of the world each year by trawling. The total for all methods is about 100 million tons. Fish that are too small, non-target species or species with no commercial value are discarded. This can include almost every creature from the sea or sea bed - sea urchins, brittle stars, crabs, dolphins, seals and sea-birds.

  As shrimp nets are dragged through the water, they catch every living creature in their path - trapping both shrimp and unwanted fish and sea turtles. Sea turtles caught in shrimp nets are held under water until they drown. Thousands of endangered sea turtles are killed in this way every year.

  It is not uncommon for nets to become detached in rough weather and float away to kill large numbers of animals and birds. When weighed down with dead bodies they sink to the bottom but once the carcasses have rotted, they float back to the surface and continue their destruction. Thousands of dolphins, porpoises, small whales, sea lions and walruses are killed by drift nets each year.

  One ton of farmed trout produces pollution equal to the untreated sewage of 200-300 people. It has been estimated that the amount of pollution in Scotland due to ammonia output from fish farming is comparable to sewage produced by 9.4 million people

  I will do you a deal. I will eat fish which are caught locally (like where you fish where you catch your own).

  So I have been to the supermarket with Gary and bought lots of meat substitutes. He loves meat, so I told him to get meat and I would eat meat substitutes. All he got was one pack of chicken LOL . He might be feeling a bit unsure about all this veggie thing....but I will cook meat for him, honest!

  So I've got fillet thingies which substitute for chicken and I have quorn mince. I've used quorn before and I love it in chilli or bolognese.

  I've also got vegetarian bacon! I wonder how it tastes? Will it be any use?

  Perhaps this will be one of my little obsessions which lasts about 3 months then dies a death. I hope not because it sounds a healthier diet to me...

  But what will I do without actual chicken? and I like fish, and apparently you are not "veggie" if you eat fish. hhmmmm

  (oh yes the market has not yet been cornered on fluffy inanities and i can compete with the best!).

  i am having breakfast at my desk of blueberries, greek set natural yeo valley yoghurt hazelnuts and whole grain flakes.

  i feel so virtuous....

  Hi Everyone,

  When I was JW, I didn't know any vegetarians. They had the teaching that God had allowed us to eat animals, so we just eat animals. No questions asked.

  Just recently I started to consider being vegetarian. Actually, I've pondered it for a couple of years now, occasionally cutting out meat for a bit then going back to it (usually a bacon buttie lures me ). Just recently, when reading something of a spiritual nature, I was prompted to think about it even more seriously.

  When I researched it on the net, it seems that there are some great reasons to go veggie. I don't think I could go vegan, but veggie I probably could.

  when i started attending the meetings, i was in college.

  i would use any excuse i could to get out of the watchtower study.

  i couldn't believe they wanted me to read the article at home and underline the answers and then i had to sit and listen to them read it aloud again and give the same exact answers they underlined in the magazine.

  Another total and complete lie by the Watchtower Society: That they are the only ones teaching an "accurate knowledge" of the bible.

  That statement is an utter JOKE when one considers actual bible scholars.
