some of the pictures in relation to armageddon are imo 'too much' for a small developing child to take.
it surprises me that the authorities have not investigated and put a stop to this form of mental abuse in children.
Despite popular opinion, kids are able to distinguish fairy tales from reality. Therefore, listening to a story is just that for most kids - a story. Admittedly our imaginations ran wild, but our parents told us "its a story".
Compare that to the JWs who say - God will actually kill you if you are not "faithful"

Christians decided to Christianise a Pagan holiday. Fact.
I'm a pagan. The pagan wheel of the year has a very definate mythology. At Yule 21 Dec, the God is born. This sparked a 7 day festival for the pagans, and 25th Dec is right in the middle of it. All the symbols of Christmas have their origins in the pagan festival.
However, if you are Christian, you can probably accept that the symbology itself isn't "evil" therefore celebrating it is alright if you celebrate it as the birth of Jesus.
I will celebrate it as the birth of Horus.
The whole pagan wheel of the year is mirrored in the Christian festivals. This is what Christians don't like to be told.

I remember the picture of Jesus on the stake. It almost fascinated me because at that time I'd only been used to seeing Jesus on a crucifix (I saw this picture at approx age 9 when not a JW, but of course again later when I joined at age 12).
What stuns me now is how graphic it is.
I don't think that children should be exposed to pictures or ideas about God killing people.

i've only posted since feb 07..but i have lurked for several years prior and there was usually something interesting on the board.
as i was reading the active topics list this morning, only a couple things jumped out at me as interesting...its been this way since the dgate and tgate incidents.... i was discussing this with a long time poster via im yesterday....does it seem to anyone else that so many of the topics are ...i dont know....odd...or different than they used to be...and i dont mean that in a good way.. i miss the newbies coming on and telling us their stories.... i miss the long time posters updating us on their lives post-borg... i guess with the recent uproar, the lurkers are hesitant to become newbies (cant say as i blame them now...we probably scared them off , and maybe the vets are just as hesitant...after all, someone went 2 years with their fraud/hoax...who will believe anyone else now?
i hope this is just a temporary cycle on this board..i have read many many posts from the archives...i hope one day soon we can get back to a happy medium here.. by the way, i like the fluff threads, but these seem to be more and more sex related (maybe that word will wake someone)... yet they get all the attention....and then someone goes too far and it gets locked down by a mod and the poster restricted......(i am not a prude...just sometimes enough is enough).

The board goes through phases, just like we do in life. I'm only just back after a long absence - I've only just got internet sorted again at home for one thing.
Don't stress about it. Just don't give out personal info that would identify you but other than that - get involved! If you want to attend a fest, do so, they're well worth it.

i spoke to my jw mum about the new watchtower study magazine and how in the first issue there is a change in "light" regarding the anointed.. she was floored and totally accepted that if they started to accept new anointed ones (non-replacements) that it *could* indicate that the society are extending the time once again regarding the coming of armageddon.
the idea is that if they accept new anointed ones, then they could be fairly young, hence they could still be around for a lot more years!.
What is today's teaching on the Generation?

I now understand the following:
* The JWs said that the calling of the anointed had been over in 1935 and any new ones called were replacements for anointed ones who fell away
* They NOW say that the number (144000) was not sealed in 1935 and that new ones could be called to be anointed (not as replacements)
The result of this is that they will prolong the years left before Armageddon. Anointed Ones will be alive for many years to come, since some younger people could now be called to fill Jehovah's requirement of 144000.
What I still don't fully understand is the actual "generation" idea. It has been said that the generation could now mean "the anointed". Are there any references to that in the literature of the JWs?

i thought after 7 years out i had done a pretty good job of getting my mind free of the jws.. then yesterday i went on youtube and typed in jehovah's witness.
after watching a few apostate videos, i came across a pro-jw video of a convention.
as i started the video and they started singing "we thank you jehovah" i got a mega wave of nausea and felt like i had to switch the thing off.. has this happened to you?
