  pomegranite, I notice you have stayed far away from helping to iron out the confusion inherent in the Bible scriptures dmouse listed.

  :"One man's contradiction could be another man's understanding."

  What does that mean? For example?

  The sharpening is done man to man, not organization to man."

  So man to man, how bout doing a little more sharpening as regards the scriptures dmouse posted? Maybe just pick a few. It would be very interesting.

  Honestly pom, I read your words and I feel a newfound apreciation for Karl Marx. I get a really opiated sense from your words. Am I right? If so, what is it like?

  as i mentioned in my opening post yesterday, my family is requesting a low key, so i am being a bit skimpy on some details.

  but, i decided that some details can come out because they will help you see the impact and seriousness of what this crime causes.. .

  my son-in-law (sil) told me very recently that when his paternal grandfather learned of the news of his son's arrest (sil's dad that is), he became very distraught, and killed himself.

  You know what they say; "it takes a village".

  I think they are right, to raise kids safely and healthfully, it helps to be part of a "village". Villages are in short supply these days, so in lieu of a village, it takes cautious, street smart parents. The WTBS provides & encourages neither.

  Well yeah Tally, of course that would be the way Sagan felt. He was after all, a scientist. That's pretty much the definition of how science is supposed to approach everything; "let the chips fall were they may".

  So, I looked at that website and the scanned pages.

  Here is an interesting quote in the chairmans intro to that Brookings report:

  The report does not necessarily represent the views of the committee or any of its members. However, the committee believes that this effort, which is among the first to attempt to identify and categorize the long-range implications for American society of space exploration, should receive wide dissemination as a stimulus thinking and future decisionmaking in this important area.

  Since the report was submitted in 1961, I'm not sure exactly why you thought it relevant to this discussion at all. In any case, from the above quote, the authors of the report were all for open dialogue, even if they did make a couple of minor cautionary statements about how e.t. life might affect the phsyche of mankind. Only seems fair to wonder about that now doesn't it? Even scientific, if you will.

  If you can find a conspiracy, or even the birth of a conspiracy of silence in that report, Black Helicoptors really are following you around.

  Oh please Tally,

  why does it matter who gets spooked? If they are 'in our backyard" we are all messy pants spooked. Every damn one of us, including every scientist and politician. That's a lot of messy undies to bury w/o someone saying something.

  I'll go take a look at the websites.

  Btw, I am reading "the demon haunted world" right now. Sagan sounded as skeptical as a person could possibly be about the mars face in that book.

  Just so I'll know, what exactly would be a credible reason to suppress any information regarding a "face" on mars?

  Keyword is credible.

  Please, for my blood pressures sake, think before you answer.

  While I'm asking questions, what exactly would happen to a scientist who couldn't help himself and "spilled the beans" that there is indeed credible evidence of intelligent landscape work being done on mars? hhhmmmm, what? Lose his job?

  One other question, how come that thing really doesn't look that much like a face? Why does it look so much like...like... what is that word we use here on earth? Oh, yeah, terrain. It looks like terrain with an uncanny resemblence to a face. Anything unusual about that? Anything?

  About the photography and image manipulation, I will have to look into it further to see what all the hub-bub is about, but, it is, afterall, photography of mars. It isn't like taking a picture of a flower in your back yard. Enhancing the image for scientific purposes is completely valid. Even at first glance, the image ianao posted looks as if the pic on the left was not converted correctly for viewing with the square pixels of a computer screen, ie. a "raw" conversion of a frame of video.

  But of course, the elder arrangement is supposed to be far different from the "cleric" arrangement of other religions. These men are not supposed to hold any real distinctive role in the congregation beyond being "mature christians" essentially.

  Boy oh boy, I bet an elder would be in BIG trouble if he let the law know about a murderer.

  Interesting take on it patio. I had never thought of that, but it is so true. How is armageddon different from the flood? More people saved? Sure. But many, many more killed as well.
