Are Elders given back ground checks before appointment?
by JWOP ini'm researching a few things, and i'm wondering: are elders ever put through a back ground check either before or after their appointment as an elder?.

Evolution, Biogeography VS. Experimental archaeology
by Brother of the Hawk ini thought of posting this on an ongoing thread regarding proof of noahs flood by poster *lost*, but i think a separate thread is needed.
this is why.. first my disclaimer.
this thread is a theory since so many people love the theory and so as not to hurt feelings and insult anyone, this is only a theory.. my personal observation is this, as long as you bash watchtower all is ok. as soon as you try to present any resemblance of christianity or any belief in the bible, such as the flood, you are personally bashed.

"Whether These Appear Sound From a Strategic or Human Standpoint or Not." - What do YOU think?

paragraph 17.
"at that time, the life-saving direction that we receive from jehovahs organization may not appear practical from a human standpoint.

What are the facts?
In the last year the society is losing money at a rate it does not like. Developed lands are NOT growing in publisher numbers and most baptisms are from children.
The society has cut publishing down by 39% by decresing the frequency and amount of magazines...they have sold nearly a billion dollars worth of real estate and are relocating brances in the US and the UK.
The rise of the internet information age is seeing more and more people wake up...they do not trust the society of the GB.
Door to door preaching is not effective...the Mormons are stopping it...
The end is not here...and of course will not come.
IF the society continues the way they have been in the last ten years they will cease to exist...money will dry up and jdubs are getting older and tired...they are selling off land...selling branches....they are consolidating to survive.
My guess is they will consolidate further down to congregation level which will affect every jdub and the fact that they are seems to fly in the face that the end is so close...thus whatever next they consolidate it will seem strange from a human standpoint..why consolidate when they actually need to speed up since the end is so close?
I think they will stop preaching in some way, reduce meetings further and even share halls...

Having studied and made lots of projects on the GT and the Big A when I was in I always understood that during the GT some of JW's would fall in death but as a whole the organisation would survive...thus those who did die during the GT would be resurrected quite soon after the Big A had ended.
But recent articles point to the scripture that says that he who endures to the end is the one that will be saved and the GB say the end starts with the GT which indicates that not one JW would die during the GT which then makes any trial during it pointless.
Now that I am out there is simply too little detail in the bible to get any detail and therefore the GB are making it up...

my first post and some questions
by wallievase inthis is my first post after deciding to finally open an account here after months of 'lurking'.. a couple of issues i want to address-.
i have issues with people who go from being a witness to losing all faith in god or the bible which seems to be the case with some members of this site.
i just don't think you can let any religion change how you view god or the bible.. second-i don't feel the gb are bad people, i think most witnesses including them are misguided by something that has been drilled into their heads since they were little and are actually sincere people.

Whether you think the GB are bad people or not is really irrelevant. They promote ideas that are damaging to life (blood) and families (shunning) so whether they mean it or not is not really the point.
The point is their doctrines can destroy families and take away lives thus they really are a dangerous religion...
I was a pioneer and an elder until October 2012. Once I realised that the WTBTS is not "the truth" then months of research into the bible (not from the WTBTS research!) lead me (and others) to the conclusion that there is no God and the bible is full of inaccuracies and thus no religion is right.
I can't help I lost my faith, I lost it due to my conscience telling me after much research that there cannot be a God...acknowledging this to myself has produced a state of peace and happiness I've never had even when I was in the "truth"...I still live a decent and moral life...that part of the bible will stay with me...

STRAIGHT FROM THE HORSE'S MOUTH! Possible shift in position from the WTBTS on the global vs local deluge.
by marmot ina buddy of mine recently sent me a link to the official wtbts facebook page and i thought what the hey, let's see what they have to say about the question that made me fade in the first place.
much to my surprise, they answered!
you may already be aware that the general position of jehovah's witnesses is briefly stated here:.

Less than one third (1/3) of Jehovah's Witnesses will survive Armageddon
by Calebs Airplane inin the early 80's when i was just a teen, i was out in field circus one day when i overheard our cobe (called president at the time?
) telling another elder that, if armageddon were to come tomorrow, less than 1/3 of the congregation would survive.
this was actually in a bakery as we were just finishing up and they didn't even notice me standing in line as they were too busy drooling over the pastries and talking trash about a ministerial servant who decided not to go to field circus that day for whatever reason.

I tell my elders this all the time...look at a cong anf if they have 100 publishers how many are really pushing themselves, really believe it and fully trust it...less than 20% I tell you...there are so many in for the ride...turn up at a meeting...go out door knocking once a month and answer up a few times and they think they have everlasting life...
I would say IF the Big A came and going by what the WTS teaches to survive there would be not many...
But it's all batshit crazy anyway....

Questions About Paradise
by jw07 inbefore you knew the truth about the truth, did you stop to think about the aftermath of armageddon were it to happen now?.
[if !supportlists]1.
[endif]almost 8 million jws (0.11%) left alive out of 7 billion+ people, or 875 bodies to bury per person left alive.
-
notsurewheretogo
I always understood it that our bodies would be perfect 1 second after the Big A but it is our minds and hearts that take 1,000 years to reach perfection thus disabilities would be cured and aging would be reversed gradually...
That would sort out any disease issue since the body is perfect from day zero...so an elder told me when I queried it...
Of course, no scriptural proof for any of this...

Can this logic be refuted?
by notsurewheretogo ini was an elder until march 2012 until i resigned.
i then stopped going to meetings in october 2012 and have enjoyed 9 months of freedom that i have found to be jouful!
i loved learning ttatt and sites like this and jwfacts.com have been excellent.. i told the elders that i needed a break and that they should not contact me unless it was a social visit and true to their word they have done that.

@shirley...I do remember that quote now that you post it...indeed thinking thoughts outside the WT's box is considered apostate!

They couldn't charge with me apostasy if you go by their own definition of apostasy...I am not a bitter person hellbent on getting people to leave Jehovah...nor have I sourced any material outside the WT...of course if I answered "no" to their question "Do you believe the WT and its Governing Body is god's organization?" then you are DF immediatley...
Ray Franz' answer to that question was good...
