Do you think that the WT has gotten stranger as time goes by or is it that with distance comes perspective?
by 4thgen inthe preaching the jw.org thing is so strange.
the two generations "new light" is crazy.
but then again i look back at some of the things i believed and taught wonder 'what was i thinking'?

Do Wills Ever Affect Shunning?
by Cold Steel ina man has several sons and daughters who are active jehovah's witnesses.
so was his wife, who died two years ago.
he has since lapsed into apostasy and has been openly critical of the governing body.

Shunning or not surely the command to "Honor thy parents" still applies!

the jewish generation that heard that prophecy in the first century saw the fulfillment of jesus prophecy about jerusalem come true less than four decades later, when jerusalem was destroyed in the year 70 c.e.

Best "wake-up-call"-arguments?!
by Mr Fool inhi everyone .
it was not my intention to write here anymore, but i found things that caught my interest, things that i feel to share in the hope of someone finds it interesting.. the core is that the wt surprisingly admits that what "we" believe in, is after all, only opinions (awake 2000 june 22 page9-11 "do not be a victim of propaganda).. anyone with a scan of thiese pages would make my day ;-) the questions/arguments below are built around this:.
feel free to find better arguments ;-).

Moreover, if we want to be fair-minded, we must be willing to subject our own opinions to continual testing as we take in new information. We must realize that they are, after all, opinions. Their trustworthiness depends on the validity of our facts, on the quality of our reasoning, and on the standards or values that we choose to apply.

Jehovah's Witnesses STAY IN because of the many things they refuse to know.
by Terry injw thinking is an act of evasion.
the unstated premise that problems with the truth will go away if only you refuse to identify them.
thinking is an active process.. evasion is avoiding that action of active thinking which would create a positive difference.

Great post. I woke up 2 years ago...my wife is still in. When I presented her with a few bible truth's/facts she more or less stuck her fingers in her ears and told me that whatever information I had found that woke me up she doesn't want to know as she is happy knowing what she knows...
Even if is wrong I ask...yes was the answer.
Nothing you can do about that...an act of evasion indeed.

Tower of Babel built by Babies!
by Billy the Ex-Bethelite inthe weekly tms bible reading assignment is not read, or not carefully read, by most of the sheeples.
it doesn't really matter, because the consideration of the bible reading material is one of the shortest parts on the meeting with a limited number of comments, and those comments are restricted to less than 30 seconds or you will get counselled.
over and over, the dubs are told to read the bible, yet the organization gives no real encouragement to read the bible by keeping everyone busy in the recruiting work and using relatively few scriptures in their "talks".. why?

CO overruling elders on appointments
by toto555 inif a brother wants to reach out to be elder, yet brothers are holding him back for dubious reasons, can/should a brother approach the co and ask him what he needs to be done to be appointed or perhaps having a discussion along the lines of why the elders are holding him unfairly back.
anybody have any experiences along these lines?
is this a good strategy?

I was appointed an elder at the CO requests where the BOE continually did not put me forward. The CO asked them why I wasn't and got silence...
What annoyed me the most was elders already on the body who resigned and then wanted to come back on but the body wuld have a list of issues with them...I mentioned in an elders meeting why are these issues not being mentioned to the brother whilst they were elders? It seems when they were elders you can do what you want but as soon as you came off and wanted to go back on you had to sort these issues out...

"How can girls guard against temptation in this sex-crazy world?"
by Apognophos inthis is from the questions from readers in the 12/15/61 watchtower.
i present it unabridged and without comment.
your own comments, however, are welcome.. "when a girl reaches the age of puberty or physical maturity, her body has developed in the matter of sex more than in the mind.

Shouldn't it be:
As with a cow, when a young girl who has reached her puberty is in physical condition to conceive and become pregnant, her sex emotions are greatly aroused. If she has association with a boy, she is inclined to think that it is the sweetness of the “boy friend” that causes this delightful and new feeling, and so she becomes infatuated with him. If the boy friend should become sexually aroused and lets her know it and then she yields her body to the advances of the amorous boy friend, she gets him to pop on a condom and they both rock each others world for the first time and she will not become pregnant as a result of just one sex experience of this kind.

But they are only 8 imperfect men!!!
by notsurewheretogo ini'm fed up of my still-in wife using this excuse that they can utter wrong beliefs and doctrines.. .
the fact that there are imperfect humans involved in the organisation is very much irrelevant.. .
we all accept, including jdubs, that these men are just men who may think and say wrong things like the rest of us as they go about their own lives.

Both very good points and I agree 100% for them...sadly jdubs seem not to understand these points...
8 men = GB = FDS = imperfect = gets things wrong but STILL = FDS
