Yearly Donations down? 2.4 billion for the 2015/16 financial year
by Diogenesister inso people keep saying watchtowsr is in a financial mess.
i think we can all accept that numbers are stagnating at best and going down year on year in the north / western countries and japan.. however the recent finance dept leeks confirmed that following the may 2015 broadcast requesting more donations, an extra 30 million was sent in for the months of july/august.
stephen lett stated that this figure equated to a 30% increase.. lloyd evans has used this figure to work out how much is donated on a yearly basis worldwide.

Suggestions for horror/supernatural movies
by Addison0998 inhey guys, so now that i’m pretty much atheist and i’m not scared of demons or supernatural things, or bring them into my house by watching movies or reading books about them lol, i defenitly want to watch a few scary movies.
i’ve always loved scary movies, but as witness, you don’t get to watch many since they need to be pg-13 and have no spiritism in it lol.
does anyone have any suggestions?

Favourite Quirky / Low Budget / Non-Mainstream Movies
by Simon inso the recent topic about film franchises got me thinking.
sure, we all love the big budget, mainstream releases that are so successful they spawn never-ending (it sometimes seems) sequels.
we could watch marvel and star-wars movies for the rest of our lives (and we might just ...).. but y'know what i love?

Shout out to the 2016 The Witch...cracking film...the scare/fear/horror is not the supernatural shit in it but the response of the family especially the father with religion as his motivation...kept thinking about the JW's as I watched it.

I'm a big fan of horror films and whilst the supernatural kind are alright I prefer pyschological horror.
And some of the low budget films/ not mainstream are astonishingly good...I think the original Blair Witch Project was a masterclass in producing fear without seeing anything.
One of my favourites is a film called Megan is Missing. It's a brutal subject but it is about two girls aged 14 and 15 and the dangers of internet chatrooms and is based on a true story. The last 20 minutes are pretty hard to watch but again the film masterfully captures the fear.
The film was endorsed by the parent of the child that the film was loosely based on.
As for The Abyss surely that is mainstream? It has a cult following and is deemed a classic?

Slim...when the WT is still here in 5, 10 years at what point will you accept you were wrong?
Whilst I believe they have money issues in no way do I believe that money will bring them down.
To quote The Matrix: "There are levels of survival we are prepared to accept."

Material such as the film at the end of this years convention confirms that I was right to take my kids out the religion
by jambon1 init’s quite affirming to see the horrific material that they’re serving up at the convention this year.
aside from blatant homophobia, the scenes at the end of the convention that are discussed on another thread stoop to new levels of fear mongering.
it seems to occur to nobody inside the organisation that this kind of material could trigger fear, deprsssion, anxiety, stress.

I've just watched this for the first time and my wife and kids are still in.
I've deeply troubled as to the message this is portraying to my kids.

Can I miss the crazy ones?
When I joined this site 6 years ago there was a funny black cross dressing guy who was a singer and professed to be Jesus.
His posts cracked me up...can't remember his name.

Motherly Love, that "Unbreakable Bond"
by Simon inmy father died a couple of months ago.
he'd been ill for some time and had many health scares and heart troubles over the years but always managed to keep on going.
then one time he didn't.. i'm glad i got to know him again and spend some more time with him after so many years missed because of the wts but those years will always be lost forever.

I like Simon, he does a great job with this site and most of his views and thinkings are very similar to my own.
It's nice to read experiences like this to see the people behind our usernames...sad though on the actual contents.
To lose a parent in death is hard but to have a parent make themselves dead to you as in the case of Simon's mother is tragic considering she still has life.
I feel fortunate that none of my family are "in" because I was the only convert.
It is stories like Simon's that need to be reiterated to those that say the WT does not harm or split up families.
