Old School Effects and CGI
by LoveUniHateExams ini was just thinking about old school effects and cgi (computer generated imagery) in film.
first off, cgi is certainly an advancement in technology, in what can or can't be portrayed on screen.. my knowledge of films and film-making is by no means extensive.
it's just i feel that sometimes film-makers rely too much on cgi, assume that more cgi = better film, or assume it's better to use cgi in every instance.. take a nightmare on elm street (1984).

Good topic, LUHE.
The movie 'Alien' was well done. It came out in 1979. It was just a man in a rubber costume but it was really realistic. 'Jaws' was also incredible.
For me, CGI in today's films take away from the realism as opposed to adding to it. Some really bad ones, in my opinion: A Perfect Storm, 2012, the latest King Kong...especially the Godzilla monsters he fought at the end, World War Z. All of the 'Hulks' are so computerish (except for the TV version of Hulk)
Some goods ones, or at least some scenes, have been done really well, though: The plane crash in 'Castaway'; 'Rogue One', 'District 9', and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The most recent 'Jungle Book' movie was pretty decent.
I was kinda torn about 'Life of Pi'. The tiger sometimes looks real, sometimes fake.
Just some of my opinions.

Met JWs today - they lied about who they were
by Xanthippe inso a couple came into the library where i work today and the woman said she was from the british sign language association and asked if i would display a leaflet for her.
when she handed me the leaflet the jw website logo jumped out at me as did the words 'would you like to study the bible with jehovah's witnesses?
' there was a small picture that had someone conversing in sign language but the other pictures were typical jw leaflet pictures.

I found this on Google Images:
(I had posted before realizing UnshackleTheChains posted a link to the photo).
When comparing the video, everyone from Herd to Lett are exactly the same. The first two (from the left: Losch and Jackson) are in different poses. No big deal. I'm just pointing it out.

Lester Holt's brother is conducting.
Why the need to keep changing everything?
I think I know. From wikipedia: Rebranding is a marketing strategy in which a new name, term, symbol, design, or combination thereof is created for an established brand with the intention of developing a new, differentiated identity in the minds of consumers, investors, competitors, and other stakeholders.

Thinking about the faders in Russia
by Funchback inimagine that you are fading and then, one day, the government bans your religion.. you no longer should have to fake it.
your fade has now been done for you.. but, imagine the fader who now must attend bunker meetings just to maintain being part of the jw family.. for me, the ban would be my ticket out, but i imagine that some faders in russia are still forcing themselves to attend underground meetings.
for those faders in unbanned countries: would a ban be your ticket to religious freedom?.

There are no arguments over those points.

No worries, Simon. It wasn't a complaint.
