At my last convention ever, at Nassau Coliseum in New York, I forget which governing body member it was, but he had the closing prayer on the last day. It was sooooo long. In fact, I opened my eyes and saw he was reading his prayer, word for word, from a paper.

Taken from Awake! No. 4 2017 (Are you doing too much?)
1 THE DESIRE TO PROVIDE WELL FOR ONE’S FAMILY
In an effort to position their children for future success, some parents overschedule both their children and themselves with various activities. The writer ignores all of the overscheduling caused by the WT org itself. Meetings, family study, individual study, prepration for meetings, field service. Those are just the JW things! Add that burden to the other things kids need to do (study for school, interact with peers, go to school...just to name a few).
2 THE BELIEF THAT ‘MORE IS BETTER’
“Instead of quitting [work] early,” observed Elizabeth Kolbert, staff writer for the New Yorker magazine, people “find new things to need”—and these things cost money and time. In the JW universe, don't they stress that more is better? Devote more time to personal study; consider pioneering; more ways to donate money; worldwide publisher growth.
3 TRYING TO SATISFY THE EXPECTATIONS OF OTHERS
Some employees work grueling hours to avoid displeasing their employer. Some, if not most, JWs put in grueling hours of field service to avoid displeasing the elders (especially the men trying get a promotion at JW Corp). Coworkers can also exert pressure by making others feel guilty if they do not stay late. Your JW peers can also exert pressure by making you feel guilty if you miss a meeting or skip field service for a weekend. And then there is economic uncertainty, which can make people more willing to work longer hours or to be constantly on call....especially after Armageddon has been postponed time and time again.
Similarly, parents can feel pressured to conform to the hectic pace of other families. If they do not conform, they may feel guilty about “depriving” their children. Oh, you mean like when one compares his or her own family to that super so-called spiritual family, feeling the need to be more like them?
4 THE PURSUIT OF STATUS AND SELF-FULFILLMENT
Tim, who lives in the United States, says: “I loved my work, and I worked at full throttle all the time. I felt that I had to prove myself.” Yes, Timmy. We all have been there/done that (especially brothers moving up in JW ranks). Status and self-fulfillment runs rampant in JWdom.

(Not so) Subliminal Shave Your Beard Message
by Funchback ini'm in the middle of dissecting the june 2017 jw broadcasting video.. in the first minute, they summarize a story about a guy who apparently was a one-time bad ass (showed a picture of him with a beard while posing on a chopper).
then, they show him shaving at the exact same moment the narrator is saying how he regained "a clean conscience".. this no-beard obsession by the jws is beyond nuts.. .

I don't know, John Davis.
It could be the vibes you are sending out. For example:
- When you say things like "Again I am not trying to defend Watchtower or JWs and I am Bi myself" or "I am not defending JWs but...", you send out the Richard Oliver vibe (ex-poster who often used the same style, including using the word 'Watchtower' instead of the org, borg, WT, JWs, Watchtower org. And not even "The Watchtower". Just Watchtower, like it's a person's name). And, Richard Oliver said he was gay. You both post about court cases as well.
- Then there's this response regarding child abuse: "It is a sad thing that people hurt children but those people are still human and need to be punished for their hurting someone else but they still need to be treated like humans". You have the right to your opinions. Still, try saying that to the face of a parent whose child has been raped.
- I haven't gone through all of your posts, but the ones I have looked at all have a pro-JW responses or spins. Except for the "Asian women, also I am a bit Bi so Asian guys too. Short and small. I don't like big on any part of a partner's body. And it is weird but a nice calf is what kills me." Your calf comment was funny and original.

@ nancy drew...
What kind of nutjob asks a father to slaughter his son to prove his loyalty and then says just wanted to see if you'd do it.
I can imagine Abraham about to cut up his lad, and then God is, like, "Psych! Just playin' man. Grab that tangled ram in the bushes."

John Davis-
I'm 99.9% certain you don't have a beard for obvious reasons.
And you are correct when saying the Watchtower is an employer. A publishing company, actually.

Yes, pale.emperor... Shaving apparently means one is spiritually strong.
I guess in JW land the motto must be "All shaved brothers are not necessarily good, but all unshaved brothers are definitely bad".

by Funchback ingrowing up as a jw, i was told that kiss stood for knights in satan's system (or service).. i just did a google search and learned it's not true.
it's actually not an acronym for anything.. to be honest, apparently it's not just the jws who believe it means something related to satan.. http://www.snopes.com/music/hidden/kiss.asp.
one day paul [stanley] and peter [criss] and i were driving around, brainstorming for new names.

One day Paul [Stanley] and Peter [Criss] and I were driving around, brainstorming for new names. I had thought of a few, like Albatross, but I wasn’t happy with any of them. At one point — we were stopped at a red light — Paul said, “How about KISS?” Peter and I nodded, and that was it. It made sense. Hindsight is 20/20, of course, and since then people have talked about all the benefits of the name: how it seemed to sum up certain things about glam rock at the time; how it was perfect for international marketing because it was a simple word that people understood all over the world. But we just liked the name, and that was that.
