Love- (Books, Mags, etc...) 32,276. Understand that I did NOT see how the word was used in these publications. No doubt, some of the time it was used in the context of "people who love the world...", "love money", etc.

I never realized that they stopped publishing the DFd figures. It's funny how they stop doing certain things and sometimes one never realizes that there has been a change. Still, you can go to your local Kingdom Hall and hear the term "thousands are disfellowshipped each year" spoken from the platform quite regularly. Perhaps putting the DFd #'s in the Mags discouraged those who were studying to be a JW. Who knows? I mean, they are desperate for growth. Oh, and like you JT, I would love to see the reinstatement #'s.

I agree with you 100% that it's a fear tactic. You are also correct in saying that JW leaders take away the flocks' free will. The main way they accomplish this is by the threat of DFing. No matter what "level" you are on in the JW religion, you can never walk away from the religion. Eventually, somehow/someway, they find a reason to announce that you are DFd, DAd, or no longer an unbaptized publisher. Great point on the "conquered without war" comment!

Using the 1999 WT CD-ROM, I did a search of Watchtower articles containing the JW catch-phrase, "Thousands are disfellowshipped each year...". This phrase is used time and again. It is found in the following WTs: 2/1/1998, 12/15/1995, 4/1/1994, 12/15/1989, 11/1/1987, and 8/1/1986. Moreso, it is used in talks and assignments from the platform, mainly during Public Talks.

Conversely, the term "Reinstated each year" is virtually non-existent. In fact, it appears only one time in the WT (12/1/1960):

"During the service year of 1958-1959 there were 6,552 individuals disfellowshiped by the New World society of Jehovahs witnesses for various reasons. Many of these were cases of immorality, either fornication or adultery. Where it became proper and timely, mercy was displayed, and there were 1,597 of all disfellowshiped during past years reinstated during the 1958-1959 service year upon proof of godly sorrow, repentance and reformation."

My thoughts and questions:

Why is this so-called religious organization promoting this negative aspect of their religion?

How come they never boast about how many are reinstated each year?

Do you recall hearing the phrase "Thousands are disfellowshipped each year" from the platform?

Have you EVER heard a Speaker speak about how many are reinstated each year?

Personally, I have my opinions to each of the questions. I am curious to see how many share my viewpoints, which I will share after some responses.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Jurors who convicted a woman of second-degree murder in the toilet-drowning death of her newborn son may not have realized that they could have convicted her of involuntary manslaughter.

Donna Michelle Knight's sentencing was postponed for at least two months by Superior Court Judge Ronald Taylor so defense attorney Grover Porter can question jurors to determine if they misunderstood instructions. One juror claimed the panel didn't know involuntary manslaughter was an option.

Knight, 37, was convicted June 14 of murdering her son in September 1999. The 10-woman, two-man jury returned a second-degree murder verdict, which calls for 15 years to life in prison. Involuntary manslaughter carries a maximum sentence of four years.

Deputy District Attorney Deena Bennett had sought a first-degree murder conviction, arguing that the unmarried woman intentionally killed her baby after concealing her pregnancy because she was afraid of repercussions from her Jehovah's Witness church.

Bennett said the religion considers sexual relations outside of marriage grounds for excommunication.

Porter argued that Knight, who weighed at least 275 pounds, did not know she was pregnant and on the day of the baby's death she was taking antidepressants and other medication and could not remember what happened.

Although jurors were given an instruction for involuntary manslaughter, the foreman told them they could not consider that option, a juror said. Actually, it was voluntary manslaughter that was not to be considered.

panama city, fla. - a 500-pound african lion mauled a zookeeper who had stepped into the animal's cage thursday to pose for a magazine photo.. george koll, 61, was attacked in the head and throat by the male lion.

Bona Dea... Actually, NONE of the Reporters jumped in to save him. It was the Photographer that did. Then again, it WAS the Photographer who asked the man to go in the cage in the first place.

Typical Dub behavior:
