Who would you most like to meet.?
by JBean ini'm just curious...if you had the opportunity, who on this board would you like to meet if given the chance (or could without getting "in trouble"!)?
(could be serious, could be fun...) i for one, am just sooo curious to meet the cat himself... just to find out if he's much different in person than in his online persona!
...and maybe pet him a few times in the process...

How much of our brain do we use?
by sleepy inthis was from another post.. apostate man "the human mind is a wonderful healing device and we only use about 10% of it.".
xander '*bzzzzt* sorry, urban legend.
we use 100%.. now i've heared this being discussed a few times here before,.

This site also seams to miss the point.
When people say we use 10% of the brain they may not have in mind 10% of the physical structre , but 10% of its capabilities.
If we use 100% of our brain capabilites all the time then we could never learn anything new as our brain would be full.
But our brain just doesn't work like that.Do you know for example that you can only use a tiny fraction of your potential muscle strength?
Our body limits the amount of muscle fibres than can be contracted at will.
Extreme stress can raise these limits , enableing you to perform extraordinary tasks.
If you recive an electric shock, the electric current can cause all your fibres to contract at once, which can send you flying across the room, or if in the palm of your hand causing it to contract onto the wire to such a degree that you cant open you hand, gluing you to the current. The fact is we can learn new tasks , personalities can change , the brain is not set in stone.
It does not make sense to say we use the full potential of our brain. At what point in life would this be anyway, when you are 5 , 10 , 20, 100?
Maybe all parts are involved to a degree , but that degree can vary. -

Xander '*bzzzzt* Sorry, urban legend. We use 100%.Now I've heared this being discussed a few times here before,
but i think the piont is being missed.
although we use all our brains funtions we do not use it all to its full potential.
Of cource no one knows what its full potential is and it probably varies from person to person anyway.
But when scientists talk of using 10% of the brain what i think is meant is 10% of its potential, where as we use all our brain funtions .The fact that we use all of our Brains funtions is what is meant when other scientists say we use 100% of the brain.
Just like we use all of our computer to play a basic game, but not its full potential .When we play a game wih complex graphics and sound etc we are using the same parts but to a higher degree. -

Depressed Or British?
by Englishman indepressed man diagnosed as "british" from the guardian:.
george farthing, an expatriate british man living in america, was recently diagnosed as clinically depressed, tanked up on anti-depressants and scheduled for controversial shock therapy when doctors realised he wasn't depressed at all - only british.
not depressed, just british: .

Can't agree about British houses being boring and plain, in fact nothing could be further from the truth.
Britian has some of the best housing architecture in the world, easily.
From country cottages, Gerogian and victorian town houses, Edwardian sburban houses, to striking mordern developments.
It has some of the most varied and amazing housing found anywhere in the world.
If you look at europe and say go to a city like Paris, in the centre its nice , but have you ever been to the sburbs of Paris ?
Its god damn awful.
Beside most people live in flats in other countries.
I've yet to see a country that betters British housing.
Now the weather is a different story. -

I went to Milton Keynes once.
It was only when we looked at our map that we realised we had driven straight through without noticing it. -

See that big lump sticking out to the west , well that Wales , and I live next to Cardiff.
When English people come across the bridge we first prod them with spears , if there are good looking ladies we take them for ourselves.
The men are usualy to scared to fight and go running off to their mummies back in England.By the way if you look more closely at the map you can see me waveing.

Why doen't God perform miracles today?
by sleepy inwhy did jesus do miracles?.
it is alledged that some 2000 years ago a man claimed to be the son of god , or even god himself (depends what religion you are).. in order to give some weight to his cliam he did some miracles, cured a few lepers, made a slap up lunch out of some fish and bread, and took a walk on some water.. all this to prove he was gods son.. but to prove it to who?.
if you ask a witness why god doen't perform miracles today , what do they say.. we don't need miracles today we have it all written in the bible.. der.

"actually, ive always heard this expressed a little differently, which was miracles were needed when the existing structure was changing"
Needed for whom?
If you were born just after Jesus died in what way could they prove anything to you as you hadn't witnessed them.
If miracles are needed as proff of anything then all need to witnesses them. -
