Society profiting from Conventions

i am sure that this has been talked about, but i would love to hear recent input.

there have been district assemblies where parking is charged, and all the "brothers and sisters" who are taking time off of work, etc, and cannot afford to go to this assembly but have to go, are paying good money for admission to the stadium.

many times not allowing come and go privledges.

I wrote this in a post last year.

About a week ago I returned from my holidays which included a trip to Fance were I have relatives .During this breack my Wife and I decided It might be intresting to vist the international convention staged in Paris .
My wife had previously booked accommodation through the society via her mothers congregation in France.
The cost for 3 nights in 2 star accommodation was 15 pounds ($20) each a night. Which was the usual price in this type of hotel.
I belive through making bulk booking the society gets discount.
Imagine my supprise when I found out that poeple who had booked from Britian through the society had paid over 600 pounds ($900) for 6 nights in 2 star accommodation not including flighs or meals.
Where did all this money go ?
I dont know how much poeple paid from other countries but I estimate that there were a least 10,000 brothers from foriegn lands.
If the true cost of accommodation was closer to 100 pounds a head they made 500 pounds profit on each pearson thats 5,000,000 pounds
($7,500,000) just on the foreigners.
Was the assembly a fund raising exercise to pay the tax they owe in France?
Anyone know anymore about these sort of events?

had the usa known in advance that the wtc was going to be attacked, we could and should have taken preemptive action.

there was some 'fuzzy' knowledge that this might happen, but not enough to know the day or hour.

yet, we still could have should have done more to prepare.. we could wait until saddam hussein completes his weapons program, and then nukes a few cities to decide we have enough evidence on hand to go after him.

Its Time to get IRAQ or is it time to get Saddam?The two are different things.

So what are the issues, correct me if I'm wrong but this is all about the threat Saddam presents to western countries.It has nothing to do with his harsh regime against his own people, otherwize most of the world would be for it too.

So is it the fear of terrorist attack?But how will bombing Iraq stop terrorists attack, terrorists don't need Saddam althought they do need money, but there are far more people than Saddam with money.

Does he have Biological or chemical weapons?This would be a major threat , yet the Anthrax attacks on America are believed to be caused by Americans, there are many people to be worried about, not just Saddam.

Nuclear power?Does he even have it, if he did how could he get it anyware near Britian or America?

Is terroist attack the biggest threat to Ameican or other people?American people are there own worst enemy.You are far more likley to be murderd than killed by terroists.3000 dead in New York, how does that compare to the murder rate?3 years worth I believe.Should we bomb the Bronx and wipe out all those potential murderers?

Does this mean we should not attack Saddam.No .Not if the threat he poses is great and real.But Life is not so simple.An attack on Saddam may stop something worse happening, or it may be the worst that would have happened.I suppose these are chances politcians have to take.No one is running this earth, world leaders are free to do what they choose and what they think best for their countries, but it would be a terrible shame if thousands of Iraq's were killed and it was just about power or money and revenge for what happened in New York.If we Attack Iraq it most be for the right reasons.

No Farkel what we should do is get a few thousand men send them off in fighter jets and bomb this S*** out of Iraq, make sure that all those evil Iraq's die as we know that westerners are so much better and never do anything wrong, never pollute the earth or exploite its inhabitants, never have their own problems with thousands of murders every year millions of people being victims of robbery and theft yet tell other countries how holy they are, dont stock up on nuclear , chemical , or biological weapons or have big companies in them that make fighter jets, missiles , tanks and landmines and sell them to third world countries and dont think they are in charge of the world .

Ok this is not a question.

I say big business rules the world in the sense that it has the biggest effect on peoples lives and directs government policy.We need to get a hold on businesses that think they are so powerful they can do what they want and smack their botties, hard.

Can you imagine if we started locking people up for what they might or could do?

"Hey sir, I see you might burgle my house, you certainly have the capability, 10 years for you in the slammer."

If we attack people because they might do something where does it stop?America has vast nuclear capabilities and other biological weapons, should the rest of the world attack America and take it out just in case?

To DA or not to DA...

just read the posts about dissassociating.

wondering what the advantages/disadvantages are.. i myself had my meeting attendance drop about 1989. during this time, i found the truth about jws through books like those of raymond franz and never went back.

aside from my father trying to coax me back in, no other jw (elder or otherwise) has ever brought up the subject or hunted me down to make a decision.

I think that to DA is to play by their rules, it still acknowledges a sort of control over you by the organisation.
