I'm with exjwlemming, it lends an air of mystery and self-importance to the whole thing. They probably could condense it into a day or two, but they're too legalistic for that, and the Elders probably like going to longer sessions, not because of the length, but because it looks good to others. It fits into their whole Elders do so much narrative.

That's beyond creepy. Jehovah watched you guys fuck around, and now you got to go tell the elders about it, like you're writing some kinky confessional erotica. And if you don't your friend will tattle on you? How old are we?

When I went to assemblies back maybe five years ago, yeah, they would throw in 500, $1,000 dollar donations to the worldwide work.

21k for one day? Christ. How does no one balk at that? The first time I heard those kind of numbers I smelled a rat.

When You Would Hear A Talk About Committing “Secret Sins” How Did You React?
by minimus init seemed as if every year a talk would be given in the congregation or at a convention about “secret sins”.
very predictably, witnesses would have pangs of conscience and confess their secret sin.. back in the 70s, one sister with an unbelieving mate went to the elders to confess about husband and her engaging in oral sex.
she was privately reproved for her “sin” and every so often would approach the elders to say she slipped up again.. i know i’d never tell anybody about my sex life just because of misguided guilt.

What an ear-fill those Elders got, a wife talking to them about oral sex with her husband? Jesus.

Great Sell-Off is for the Expansion Work in Africa
by HiddenPimo inthey say this sell off is for the need to build more kh.
however the branch accounting video that was leaked shows otherwise.. is there a way to find out how many halls are constructed in africa and other places to show the money trail is to pay for child abuse cases and not new halls.?.

They always have an excuse, and their excuses are always paper thin (no more book studies to save publishers gas money), and yet the faithful believe every word.

One of the points of conventions: obedience training
by john.prestor ini think a lot these days about people who train you to be obedient without telling you that's what they're doing.
the thought occurred to me that that could be part of the idea of regional conventions.
it's not like they present much of anything new to the audience, it's the same old talks year after year, the same old information, yeah, repackaged a little, different themes, different illustrations, but the same information, obey the faithful slave, armageddon is imminent, go door-to-door, the usual.

That's interesting, careful, yeah I see your point. They pared them down and got rid of most of that, no food, no plays, less and less fun, more and more Big Brother on the big screen.
Gotta agree with sir82, it's all about appearance in the Watchtower world. Spirituality means performance. Stuff as simple and silly as how many colors you highlight your Watchtower in like you're 12.

Are there any JW songs that you HATE?
by neat blue dog inyou're probably thinking 'all of them', and it's true that the songbook is riddled with wrong stuff .
but are there any songs in particular that irk your moral sensibilities?.
for me it would be song #26, "you did it for me".

Yeah, they sort of mumble or drone the words. They don't even raise their voices to the normal volume level you would sing at. It seems like they're afraid to express themselves.
