.....by the way Freddo. Excellent job of showing concern to the old man. Maybe your subtle approach caused some Cognitive Dissonance and he will think about things a bit.

Encounter with a long time elder. (Jehovah's happy people)
by freddo inso i'm at work and go to my vehicle parked outside the empty property i'm working at and an elderly man comes out of next door and we recognise each other from when we were elders in the same circuit.
he is early 80's in age, a jw since the 1960's and so the next generation in age up from me.. he's an outwardly jolly sort and asks how i am etc.
(knows i'm not an elder but thinks i'm pimi) and asks if i want a cup of tea so i go in and sit in his kitchen for my lunchbreak and have a chat.. i have a little fish around and ask about how jw's in his hall are.

Wasanelderonce and The Fall Guy
I think more on the lines of extending pity to the deceived and blame to the deceivers. By their own standard that places the GB in tough spot with their God. Maybe this is relevant: James 3: 1 Byington: "Do not many of you be teachers, my brothers, knowing that we shall come under greater responsibility."
GB more responsible with every new measure of authority they dole out. Reminds me of the losing side in a war. The leaders hold most responsibility but all in under their domain suffer as a result. Just look at the ruins in Europe after the WW's.

Guess I'll revert to old habits and quote a Scripture:
Matthew 7:20The Message (MSG)
15-20 “Be wary of false preachers who smile a lot, dripping with practiced sincerity. Chances are they are out to rip you off some way or other. Don’t be impressed with charisma; look for character. Who preachers are is the main thing, not what they say. A genuine leader will never exploit your emotions or your pocketbook. These diseased trees with their bad apples are going to be chopped down and burned."

I feel so bad for you. It is so hard just to become an inactive JW and to just be left alone.
I don't know the teenagers motive for writing you and neither do any other of the posters here. Who knows, maybe she is secretly looking for someone to talk to about her own doubts. That is not likely, but one never knows. The thing is, you are a loving person. How do I know? Because if you weren't, the letter would not bother you at all and it would be easy to ignore, but you still care and that is because you are a good person.
Probably the best thing to do is to ignore it, although I thought the idea of a generic Thank You card could work too.
I'm happy for you that through all of this, you have managed to remain a caring person with feelings for others.

very thorough, and lengthy expose.
child abuse hidden not reported.. "in one case involving two boys, she said she failed to report the incident “because it had all stopped, and they were serving jesus, and i found out about it way later.” she also said that “because of ministerial confidentiality, i don’t have to.”.

In fact, there is no such waiver for clergy in North Carolina. Whaley is required to report even allegations of abuse and, they say, when allegations of sexual abuse arose within the church, Whaley not only didn’t report it but tried to hide it."

Have you ever thought what the primary teaching of Jehovah’s Witnesses is?
by Half banana init is not “preach the good news” nor is it “believe in jesus and get saved” neither is it “believe in the governing body of jehovah’s witnesses and get saved” although in practice they do teach this.
no, everything they claim depends on a belief in another doctrine which logic decrees cannot be found in the bible.
the leadership of jehovah’s witnesses put absolute faith in a protestant doctrine which is given a latin name, sola scriptura, meaning “by scripture alone”.. good evidence of the governing body believing in the primacy of this doctrine was when being questioned by the australian royal commission, they resorted to the ‘authority’ of scripture to defend their stance on having “two witnesses” when they are investigating child abuse cases.throughout the hearing they paraded their naive trust in the bible as the highest possible authority proudly ignoring the fact that most people regard it as having been superseded by modern scientific evaluations of what is true.. .

Actually the religion of Jehovah's Witnesses is not biblical. Every single doctrine which is unique to Jehovah's Witnesses is in fact, extra-biblical.... and that includes the entire foundation of Watchtower authority.
"Organization " - extra-biblical
"Governing Body" - extra-biblical
"Blood transfusion" - extra-biblical
"LDC" - extra-biblical
"Disfellowshipped" - extra-biblical
"Shun" - extra-biblical
"Overlapping" - extra-biblical
"Channel of communication" - extra-biblical
"Kingdom Hall" - extra-biblical
"Jehovah's Witnesses" - extra-biblical.
(At least Church or Congregation are Biblical terms)
"Publisher" - extra-biblical
"Pioneer" - extra-biblical
......none of these are NWT Biblical terms Yet they never "go beyond the things that are written?" - 1 Corinthians 4:6

Why do we speak out once we learn TTATT?? Because the Society TRAINED us to do so!
by stuckinarut2 ini was just thinking about how the gb / society hates it when people like us dare to speak up or mention anything negative about the society.. they try and demean us, or colour witnesses view of anyone who leaves - especially if we speak up!
we know the sort of rhetoric they have been spewing forth over the last few years.. but the gb needs to face the fact that we speak out because we have been trained to do so by them!
they have used scriptural passages to encourage us repeatedly to "preach with boldness"(acts 4:29-31 eph 6:19).

I don't try to tell them anything, not because they won't like it but because it's a waste of my time and energy.
I have found success comes with private conversations with individual JW you have been close to. Not appearing to attack their GB or beliefs I'm amazed how many are ready to express their own doubts when they are allowed to express themselves. For instance, "If JW's believe blood should be poured out, not used, even when it's your own blood, why can we take blood fractions that came from someone else's stored blood?"
Too many things held as cherished beliefs are now changed

JWs - Liberals or Conservatives?
by neat blue dog inwhere they stand is a strange mixture.
yes, they don't agree with abortion and homosexuality, they believe in the bible and wear skirts and ties to church .
but in many ways they're liberal.
-
zophar
If you meet a liberal JW - they are awake, or about to be.
That described me!
I believe this is why JWs are among the most racially diverse religions in America
There seemed to be a lot of support among the black friends for President Obama. A sense of pride even though they were "supposed" to be neutral.

Has anyone met Anthony Morris?
by The Real Edward Gentry inhe seems like he'd be very stern and a drag to have to be around.
obsessed with tight pants and homosexuals and all.
so what's he really like?.
-
zophar
A friend was with Morris in the Traveling Overseer training school a number of years back when Morris was a Circuit Overseer. He said Morris was a real cut up and clown, had great sense of humor.
You can see that at times when he speaks now, but I think the Tight Pants talk and others since have revealed his humorless side!
