for jws the main attraction is the organization's sales pitch and in the new 2023 memorial invitation they pretty much admit it, quote:.

so perhaps we all heard the jw story about jesus talking to gehenna and he was referring to a place outside the city where there was a dump burning refuse and everyone knew what it meant.. according to jw.org: tradition relates that the valley of hinnom thereafter became a place for the disposal of garbage.

and the bible provides confirmation for this.

at jeremiah 31:40, for example, the valley of hinnom is evidently called the “low plain of the carcasses and of the fatty ashes.” there was also the “gate of the ash-heaps,” a gate that seems to have opened out onto the eastern extremity of the valley of hinnom at its juncture with the kidron valley.—nehemiah 3:13, 14.. i think i heard that in the study of the greatest teacher book first.

I'm more curious to know how they would have kept such a fire burning continuously. Or perhaps more importantly, why they would. It sounds like a lot of work, and would produce quite a bit of smoke and awful smells. Was it far away from the city? Were the winds always favorable?

i read this in the public area of jwtalk, about a canadian case concerning reena virk, over 20 years ago..

“manjit, her father, got arrested by the police due to reena's accusation of sexual abuse.

he lost his job, many of his friends and almost his family.

It's likely that there wasn't enough evidence to prosecute, since the accusation was false. On the other hand, the story adds that he struggled with government agencies that had him listed as a sex offender. This can only happen when there is a conviction. So the story seems a bit sketchy, to say the least.

Trying to use it as a way to support the two-witness rule is ghastly. It's okay for thousands of children to suffer and their tormentors to get away with it, just so we can protect society from the rare child who makes a false accusation that is taken seriously? How many times does that actually happen? Almost none, would be my guess.

I wonder if this is what will finally force some useful -if not sufficient- changes in policy. Did that person leave the KH and move to another, or does "left the Kingdom Hall" refer to disassociating themselves or otherwise leaving the JW religion? The GB can protest until they are blue in the face, but nothing will make the cognitive dissonance go away when people are confronted with a clear problem and they get to witness how the organization fails them and their children.

I long ago made a commitment to offering my friendship and help to anyone who stayed in, so as to make clear that anyone who decides to end our friendship or put the organization before family is the one putting an end to the relationship. When I was a JW, I would have acted as they do. As sad as it makes me to possibly lose valuable friends or family, my conscience is clear- if they ever need me, I am available.

Should Jehovah's Witnesses Trust the Governing Body?

if there is evidence that jesus invisibly chose specific men at headquarters in brooklyn new york in 1919 to be his faithful slave and that mandate and ability passed on to future directors...then the answer might just be a resounding maybe.. what is the evidence for this invisible appointment and what is the evidence that this is just watchtower mythology?.

i hope jws like scholar and fisherman will explain why the trust the gb.. i must be honest, i see no evidence at all to put trust in either the 1919 selection or the current men taking the lead in warwick.

That contrast, between "we are the only reliable conduit between man and god" and "we mess up sometimes, we did not say we were perfect" is the kind of thing that should be emphasized more often. At some point, thinking people will become uncomfortable with the idea that they are demanding unconditional obedience to men whose authority and accuracy is very much conditional.

They occasionally even admit that when they are wrong, it is not an excuse for people to doubt their position as god's only true mouthpiece! If you were disfellowshipped because you disagreed with the organization, you will not be reinstated if the GB later agrees with your views. According to the WTS, being right is not what matters. Obedience is.

hasn`t science ,astronomy ,time , .....proven it an illogical beleif ?.

with the information about this solar system and it`s planets ,other stars and their planets that we have information about ,and the fact that no god has ever revealed him/her self in any shape or form 'there is no evidence that a creator / god has ever existed.. except in the minds of humans who want to control a section of humanity .. the fact that religions rely on "you have to have faith" to beleive in a god ,surely is a cop out.. i look forward to your comments .. and a happy new year to you all..

I agree, which is why I don't take an absolute stance on the issue of the existence of god. For most of my life, I believed that god existed because I'd been told that god existed, and accepted that without question. When I stopped assuming that god existed, I was not able to present a definitive argument for a god. That did not make the alternative option automatically true- I had rejected that kind of thinking already.

I am left with three options: the universe began when a super-dense dot of mass/energy began to expand, or a being outside of existence created everything, or some third, unknown option. None of these fit with the human concept that everything has an absolute beginning. From that perspective, none of them make sense. Yet, here we are. I don't see why I need to choose one of those to the exclusion of the others. There isn't enough knowledge or understanding on my part to do so.

The most compelling arguments for the existence of god take the shape of "god has to exist." In other words, a god is necessary for the universe to make sense. The individual arguments all have their flaws, mostly based on our lack of knowledge about the universe. But for me, it must suffice. However, if that is the best argument for a god, it leaves us with no information as to who or what it or they are. I must therefore judge the human concept of god on its merits, and I find those lacking. That doesn't mean there isn't a god, it just means we haven't figured out its nature.

That being the case, it seems to me that god is not as interested in us as we would like to think. Perhaps god will make itself known in time, perhaps not. Until it does, I will live my life as best I can and not worry too much about it.
