It'll be interesting to see if they offer up any details. Did he step down? Was he asked to step down? Is it due to illness? Did they sack him for expressing a personal opinion? Was the liquor cabinet inadequately stocked for the most recent meeting???

Blood question re: sample for testing
by carla inwhy can jw's give blood samples for testing in a medical setting?
i was with someone once (non jw related) who was getting multiple tests done and they must have taken a good pint all together in separate vials.
how do jw's square this with their blood policies?
-

The WTS is against the transfusion of blood. Storing blood for the purpose of transfusing it into a person is what they object to (even if it is your own blood). Blood that is drawn for testing is, presumably, discarded in accordance with local laws and regulations. It is understood that this blood is not collected for transfusions.
I'm not defending their stance regarding blood transfusions, just pointing out that they have a rational reason for not linking a blood draw to them.

Genesis 6:4 - The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.
If we go only by the Genesis account, the Nephilim were 'heroes' and 'men of renown.' There are two other mentions, one in Ezekiel (which refers to mighty warriors, but does not use the word Nephilim) and one in Numbers (which, presumably, refers to their existence after the flood? The verse above seems to imply this as well).
The verse in Genesis seems like it was added in at some point, as it doesn't seem to fit in context. In any case, they seem like heroes of legend and not wicked dominators of men (though the verse in Numbers implies that they did terrorize people). Many cultures revere the powerful people who led them and/or kept them safe, and over time these characters are mythologized.

New day: I look back on my life as a Witness and now I am basically a non-entity
While I understand the sentiment, I see it almost as the opposite for myself. When I was a JW, I had to control my thoughts and behavior and go down the simple track designed for me by the organization. Many things that I would have liked to do were forbidden. Life had to be simple and bland and practically devoid of anything aside from the JW treadmill. Meetings, field service, the occasional get-together where you had to mind how you acted and what you said, and so on.
JWs are taught that anyone who wants to be free of that control wants to misbehave and do terrible things that will offend God and prevent them from being saved. But what are some of those awful behaviors? Growing a beard. Getting a tattoo. Wearing snug clothing. Celebrating holidays. Smoking a cigarette. How can you consider that list and not recognize the tight, smothering control they want to have over you?
I am not a non-entity now. But I was one when I was a JW.

If death is the result of sin, why do animals die?
by Orgull inmy first week of posts here were very serious and all the wonderful, encouraging replies helped me very much.. so now i want to ask something semi-frivolous.
(actually it's one of the many things that don't make sense to me about "the truth").
why do animals die?.

If I am remembering the story correctly, Adam and Eve covered themselves with leaves. It was God who provided them with animal skins. I wonder where he got them...

It's been a long 9 years Lloyd Evans / John Cedars

I didn't watch the interview, and don't plan to. But it sounds like the comments section was heavily moderated, and that Evans himself spent hours beforehand making sure things were sanitized. The callers were screened and one made it through before getting cut off, but Evans had to address the interruption anyway.
To me, that's a success. Anyone intrigued enough to want to know more about Evans will also want to know what that was all about, and it shouldn't take long to figure out that he's not the innocent victim of a harassment campaign, but an awful person. It also serves as a reminder to him that this isn't going to go away.

Fisherman: Criminals go to lawyers because they commit crimes.
People go to lawyers when they are charged with a crime. No criminal goes to a lawyer because they committed a crime. They go because they're being charged with one.
Fisherman: But a lawyer disclosing privileged information
If a client admits to committing a crime, that is not privileged information and it is not a crime to report that to the police. The lawyer may choose to treat it that way, if they prefer to serve their client at the expense of victims and of society at large.
Similarly, a clergyman who reports a crime to the police (especially something as heinous as child abuse) would not face sanction for 'violating' privacy or confidentiality. In other words, they're not forced to withhold this information-- they choose to. The government isn't protecting criminals. The government is protecting religious organizations. Religious organizations are protecting criminals.

Fisherman: Client lawyer and penitent church.
Neither of those prevent a lawyer or clergyman from reporting a crime. Doing so is not a violation of privacy.

Fisherman: It reveals your attitude.
Quite true. I believe that the government should not protect religious organizations at the expense of the safety of children. I also believe that religious organizations cannot use these rules to pretend that their hands are clean, even as they hide behind those same rules in order to protect child rapists and fail to help their victims (and in some cases, victimize them even further). You appear to think that this is... misguided?
