  LMsA: The real news is when the case gets dismissed. That’s what will make a difference if any.

  What was revealed about the lawsuit is also highly damaging to him, though. The dismissal (and that is inevitable at this point) would have been a disappointment, but he would have tried to play it off as "the courts let me down, I thought our case was solid, this isn't over! Forty years, Kim! Forty yearssss!"

  Instead, it is an embarrassment. I'm very curious to see how he tries to spin it. I expect that he will try to ignore it, but will have to say something about it. The story he concocts to try to explain it should be epic.

  That explains why he deleted his Twitter account and decided he needed more time off. After all of his talk, he didn't even file the suit properly or amend it when he needed to. All the while, he was smugly telling people to lawyer up and get ready for a legal fight. And he wasn't even bothering to make sure the suit was filed properly.

  So he was putting on a show for his supporters, and once he realized that the truth was about to be revealed, he ran. He came up with a lame excuse about Twitter not removing an offensive tweet and deleted his account. And his recent note to his patrons did not mention the "campaign" against him. He desperately wants everyone to forget about it now.

  I've no interest in his book, but I am curious why it would take so long to revise it for a second edition. Yes, it's a very long book, but revisions are usually just that- fixing grammar here and there, updating a few passages or notes to reflect changes or knowledge since the original was published, and so on.

  If he wants to add anything about the past two/three years, that would require a sequel, not a revised edition. It's way too much info to cover as an addendum or update, especially with his inability to control is penis word count.

  "Biblical proof" or "scriptural proof" is a misnomer; the Bible makes claims. Proof or evidence must be sought out if one seeks to validate (or invalidate) those claims.

  In any case, this level of navel-gazing is fascinating to me. As if we're supposed to be concerned that god, when he caused a magical conception, made sure not to break any of the laws that he had given to the Israelites. The method is also of no real interest, save for the fact that it makes this claim impossible to corroborate. God could have waited for Joseph and Mary to wed and bed, and then replaced the fertile egg with one that contained his godly essence. He could have waited until their child was of a certain age, then transferred the child's soul to heaven and infused the body with his own intellect. And so on.

  It's academic, in light of what god wanted to accomplish. If the important thing was to preach the word of the new covenant and then sacrifice his life as a ransom for humanity, that could have been done in any of a number of ways. After all, the whole thing was being set up so that god could pay a debt to himself on behalf of humanity. He could have accomplished the very same thing by simply saying "you're all off the hook." The flair for the (gruesomely) dramatic made for a bit of drama (and a very graphic film by Mel Gibson) but was unnecessary.

  I can't see his improv career going anywhere. He was getting used to doing TV interviews and rubbing elbows with people outside of the exJW pond. Now he is doing amateur night in a bar in Croatia, with a crowd that doesn't care that he's a sex-addled cult escapee. If he cannot find the energy to make content for people who practically worship him, he definitely doesn't want to keep going on stage and being ignored.

  It's a strange month because of the bump he got mid-month. 458 to 435 would be a loss of 23, which wouldn't be shocking given how things have been going. 478 to 435 is a loss of 53. But with the recent content being mostly him crying into his beer (Oktoberfest!), I'm wondering if the slide will continue into the first week or two of this month.

  MillennialDawn: He’s an especially gifted liar.

  The most effective liars are the ones who are convinced that they are being honest. Not about every detail, but about the overarching narrative. I think Evans can lie convincingly because he is certain that he is a good person and a good family man. He is certain that he didn't do anything too terrible, and that he made amends. Thus, he is also certain that he is being unfairly persecuted by people jealous of him.

  Any lies he tells are in service of what he believes is true, and so he can lie without guilt or remorse. When he lies to his supporters, it's not like he's really lying- they just need to understand what is going on. When he lies to his family, it's not like he's really lying- they're being unfair and he's just fighting fire with fire. When he lies to everyone else, it's not really lying- and besides, the public doesn't need to know any of this stuff, so what difference does it make?

  The most effective liars lie to themselves the most.

  i see this phrase a lot: "the indication of a cult is what happens when you leave.

  " i'm not sure where that originated, but it is a faulty categorization.

  "cult" is almost always used in a derogatory way.

  It is true that they do not promote the adulation of one individual human leader, but they hold up the group (the governing body) as the conduit through which Jehovah leads his people, by virtue of his holy spirit. The rank and file are expected to treat the words that come from the group as if they are from god. And this holds even if they make doctrinal changes later on, which can invalidate previous expressions.

  I agree that they are high-control, but they do seem to have features that remind people of cults.
