Calling them gay sounds very much like they were telling them that they must have enjoyed it, or even initiated it. It is the sort of thing used to shame rape victims. This is exactly the kind of thing that has to be brought to light in these cases.

Thoughts on Likely Upcoming Changes in the Org.
by Phizzy ini am thinking that the "ten year plan" that some have spoken of is the most likely scenario.
the org.
has to both attract new members and retain as many existing ones as possible.. so i think they will let the recent changes "bed in" for a while, maybe a year ?

Vidiot: any remaining incentive to stay is basically gone.
With enough of these types of changes, the incentive to leave may also be gone. Make holidays and birthdays a conscience matter, make shunning so rare as to be forgotten, revoke the blood policy, and suddenly you've got a mainstream religion and not a depressing cult. Just change the website link to JWTF_org.

Trickle or flood?
by joey jojo innow that some reasonably big changes have occurred in a short time frame, whats next?
will the gb let the dust settle for a bit, or will they keep dropping bombs this year?.

Well, there is a lot to fix, although most of the fixes amount to "we will no longer stick our noses into your personal business." Doing it gradually might get people thinking that the changes will never end, but pushing them across faster could alienate a lot of people who otherwise would have made adjustments over time.
Maybe they could get away with a quicker pace, if the changes are of the 'conscience matter' variety (ie, no more sticking their noses in your personal business). Some might not want to make decisions for themselves after so many years of conditioning, but freedom tends to feel good almost every time.

You should have taken the plate and loudly commented "looks pretty fresh for the flesh of a guy who's been dead 2,000 years."

I bet they regret reviving the 1914 stuff in 2010 with the overlapping generations video. It had been fading into the background since 1995, and they could be free of it already. Whoever came up with the overlapping generations crap is a world-class idiot.

JW Expanded Volunteer Activities?
by doinmypart ini think the gb needs to expand publishers' volunteer activities beyond door knocking.. gb has shifted away from door-knocking to more varied forms of witnessing and no longer counting time for publishers.
my prediction is that the gb will start encouraging jws to participate in broader community volunteer efforts: clean-up drives, food banks, senior citizen support, and other non-proselytizing activities.
this move could help them gain goodwill with government agencies and the public.. expanding volunteer activities could significantly shift how jws are perceived by the wider community.

That would also require a change that I think they need very badly- to allow the rank and file to have normal social interaction with non-JWs. Stop the isolation and the separation from "the world" and allow them to develop friendships and relationships. I think that even the hardcore old-schoolers would welcome that.

Thanks, Earnest. That makes this much messier for the organization.

In the livestream, he claimed that he put that in the book so no one could use it against him later. Pull all those skeletons out of the closet, and he would be free!
...and then he continued to be a terrible human being and still can't figure out where it all went wrong.

If the org. Is being advised by consultants, is a name change in the works?
by nowwhat? inlet's be honest, there's a stigma to the name jehovah's witness.
if they are going more mainstream.
i imagine the first recommendation was a name change.

I have to say, I wonder if they would welcome an exodus of the most hardcore JWs. If the idea is to appeal to a younger demographic that doesn't accept the old authoritarian ways, you can't help but make the long-time loyalists feel uncomfortable, if not outright unwelcome. Losing them would be a bumpy road, but what is left behind might be something to build on.
I admit, I tend to see this stuff through the lens of an old-timer and long-time devout JW (whose experience spans mostly the 80s-90s). If they plan to go mainstream, that is the type of person they won't be able to cater to. If they are taking the long view, they need to let go of the people who are waiting on an end that will happen any minute now and build a membership of people who just live the life. You can't try to appeal to both, because both will leave.
