  My limited understanding is that one initiates and then rises through the ranks.

  Russell was an initiate into the Scottish Rite 33rd degree. The identity of these individuals are hidden from view and records are kept strictly confidential. Lower degrees are completely ignorant as to the identity of these individuals. The Scottish Rite is where the true power and agenda of masonry lies. You cannot earn your way into that position, it is only available to those with the appropriate bloodline. The lower downs in the order are seen as the Watchtower's version of "publishers", nothing more and the records of these individuals are readily accessible to the public, and they are not offered a special memorial service. Think of the 33rd degree masons as equivalent to a secret version of the "governing body", and the rest of the masons as the rank and file.

  I dont believe Catholics are accepted as Masons or they are not allowed

  From the viewpoint of the lower degrees a division and contention exists. There is a reason for this. At the highest level however there are no divisions between Freemasons and Jesuits. They are one and the same as is their agenda.

  why does it matter if Russell was a Mason ? It does not follow , if he was, that today's JW Org has any connection,

  The only reason anyone wakes up to the JW teachings is through research. The same is true about the watchtower ties with masonry. Your statements clearly confirm you don't understand what Freemasonry is and see what is hidden in plain sight within The Watchtower.

  that's like asking "why does shunning matter"? only someone who doesn't see the full picture, who hasn't done the research, would ask such a question.

  you will never understand WHAT the Watchtower is until you understand WHAT freemasonry is and its agenda.

  Understanding the Watchtower's ties to freemasonry gives one deep insight as to The Watchtower's actual agenda, and only someone with a JW mindset would state "I don't see it is important one way or the other".

  You would have to be blind, stupid or ignorant to Russell's teaches and publications to not see he was a freemason.

  The claim about Russell is that he was 33rd Degree of the Scottish Rite which is the highest level of the order. Just as the higher degrees do not share secrets with the lower degrees, strict secrecy is maintained between members and non-members. Logically they are not going to disclose details of their highest ranking members. In any case it does not take a rocket scientist to work out that Russell was a freemason. You only have to examine his body of work to see that it is laden with masonic symbology and phraseology.

  Its wierd because I have a copy of both the 1982 and 1989 editions Live Forever Book and on page 179 both clearly state that the sodomites will not get a resurrection. ????

  Automatic Disfellowshipping

  back in the 60's and 70's, when i was a jw, i held a number of ministerial posts.

  this meant that i was privy to many congregation issues that involved disfellowshipping or restrictions.

  probation was the term that we used then for restrictions.. if a person appeared before a jc and was found to be guilty and placed on restrictions, then the person could be automatically disfellowshipped if they committed the offence again whilst still on restrictions.. i know this for this reason: one lady from our congregation who had engaged in fornication some years earlier had been placed on probation.

  Yes it still occurs. If someone commits fornication say, while on restrictions that is an automatic disfellowshipping. My flat mate was D'd without a judicial committee. He was put on restrictions for drunkenness. Then about three months later he got drunk again and slept with a work colleague. He confessed to one of the elders at the Thursday night meeting, and they told him after the meeting he was to be disfellowshipped. I've found automatic disfellowshipping occurs in a number of different scenarios. Like if the elders can prove without a doubt that someone has committed an outright act of apostasy then it's highly likely the elders will automatically disfellowship that person. Yes sure the elders they will go through the motions of talking to the person but basically the decision to oust them will have been made beforehand.

  i would love to just send a thank you to them, because it was that jc meeting mp3 that really gave me confidence and helped me learn how to casually overcome objections by zealous jws.. anyone?

  Jehovahs Witness found dead in Bali hotel

  warren borsje an active 2nd generation jehovah's witness who made millions as a get-rich get salesman was found dead earlier this year in a hotel in seminyak, bali (reference).

  reports given to the police confirmed borsje appeared intoxicated prior to his death and needed assistance by fellow hotel guests to get to his room.

  when he didn't show up the following day to check out, hotel staff found him lying face down with blood around his mouth.

  Warren Borsje an active 2nd generation Jehovah's Witness who made millions as a get-rich get salesman was found dead earlier this year in a hotel in Seminyak, Bali (reference)

  Reports given to the police confirmed Borsje appeared intoxicated prior to his death and needed assistance by fellow hotel guests to get to his room. When he didn't show up the following day to check out, hotel staff found him lying face down with blood around his mouth. An empty bottle of vodka was found next to his body.

  It has been since reported by Borsje's colleagues that he was battling alcohol addiction for years (reference)
