  Suicide in the spiritual paradise all too common

  just heard that a young brother committed suicide this week - the whole congregation is naturally very distressed.

  what a tragedy.

  according to my source he'd only been married about a year and his wife found him - he’d hung himself.

  Wake Me: NEVER ONCE did I EVER tell my therapist that I was a Jehovah's Witness. I was too concerned about protecting the cult! ... That therapist was unable to help me.

  This is a real problem. Many cult members will not seek help from a qualified mental health professional due to the vilification of these professions by the cult. But sadly, even when cult members do seek appropriate help, they undermine their own care by failing to give the psychologist, psychiatrist, therapist or counselor all the information they would need to be able to make an accurate diagnosis of the underlying problems and recommend an appropriate course of action.

  It's like going to an general practitioner medical doctor and simply saying, "I'm not feeling well," but refusing to say what's wrong or disclose any symptoms or possible causes.

  I'm glad, Wake Me, that you final overcame the psychological hurdles you had to healing. Your progress and growth since leaving the cult is evident!

  I Went To My Brother’s Memorial Service at the Kingdom Hall

  i have to say that the talk was very good.

  instead of just repeating a jw manual , the speaker actually spoke about my brother!

  there were a few scriptures with the jw hope but 80 % of the talk was actually about the life of my brother.

  just reported that, despite the tremendous success we are having with the economy & all things else, 91% of the network news about me is negative (fake).

  why do we work so hard in working with the media when it is corrupt?

  I am constantly amazed how many people on this forum -- former cult members all -- will unquestioningly line up behind Donald Trump and diss anyone that criticizes him even though there is quite a lot to be critical of.

  You'd think after leaving one cult people would be a little more hesitant to join another, but apparently not. So much of how Trump acts and behaves is identical to that of the cult we all left. It's frankly quite weird that so many on this forum fail to see that. But I guess it just proves the well documented phenomenon that many people that leave one cult with frequently run to another because it's familiar and seems to provide them for what they think they need.

  C'mon. This "doctrine" -- and it pains me to even call it that -- is the abso-fucking-lutely stupidest thing the WTBTS has ever come up with, and they've come up with some really stupid shit!

  In a way, it's brilliant: it shows how gullible and desperate the average cult member is to belong to something no matter how dumb and to follow their leaders unquestioningly and uncritically. All the leaders have to do is come up with something -- it apparently doesn't matter how ridiculous or illogical it is -- and the "sheeple" will ooh and aah and say, "Oh. Yes, that's right! Look how wonderful Jehovah is!" and keep right on following no matter what.

  Let's review: It's a cult!

  Aren't we glad we have superior personal integrity, courage and critical thinking skills to call bullshit on this kind of nonsense!

  Yes they are.

  It's a cult and the leaders of this cult are completely morally culpable. Sadly, the United States of America currently does not have laws to prosecute such crimes, but instead provides cover for charlatans and con men.

  Just because what they do is not illegal doesn't make it right.

  This comment shows a complete ignorance of how both scientists and cults leaders work.

  Scientists try to find empirical data and objective evidence to help us understand how things really are. Peer review and repeatability are essential to a working hypothesis. Scientists welcome questions and must be willing to admit when they are wrong when the evidence indicates otherwise.

  Cult leaders make shit up based solely on whatever suits their agenda or mood, they absolutely do NOT tolerate questions, they will put any and all pressure possible and necessary on anyone that dares to question them in order to silence dissenters and maintain absolute control over their mindlessly obedient followers, and cult leaders will never, ever admit error or defeat even in light of overwhelming evidence of their mistakes, failings and other errors and shortcomings.

  in my psychology studies we've been examining the use of "labels" and how they influence peoples behaviour.

  i sometimes wonder if the gb or their helpers know exactly what they're doing when it comes to psychological manipulation.. it's been observed that by labeling someone or something it changes your entire perception of that person or thing.

  it colours it entirely, quite unfairly in some cases.

  Good idea. It certainly fits. This is NOT the religion I joined in the '80s.

  WT leadership from Rutherford to the current GB have gradually apostatized from pretty much every core teaching the CT Russell had when he formed this religion in the 19th century.

  my father died a couple of months ago.

  he'd been ill for some time and had many health scares and heart troubles over the years but always managed to keep on going.

  then one time he didn't.. i'm glad i got to know him again and spend some more time with him after so many years missed because of the wts but those years will always be lost forever.

  So making more money is important, but NOT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING to recent incoming freshmen.

  They are more interested in getting a better job, gaining a general education and appreciation of ideas, and getting training for a specific career. Laudable goals all!
