I gave it a lot of thought and followed the evidence to where it inevitably led. God—at least along the lines of the one portrayed in the Abrahamic traditions—simply does not exist.
Frankly, this is a good thing. Why?
As Richard Dawkins so clearly explains, “The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.”
This does explain, though, why “true believers” of the fundamentalist ilk are as nasty and horrible as they frequently are. They are made in “His” image.
They are simply imitating their vile god.
