  This is much needed as many therapists do not understand the very real damage and emotional abuse that we have suffered as a result of being in a cult.

  Many don't even recognize that religions such as JWs are a cult!

  I was interested in this until I read: "Bentinho Massaro's teachings ... contain the essence of all major spiritual paths ..."

  We, as ex-cult members, definitely need to learn to recognize the false and dysfunctional beliefs we have acquired about ourselves and the world, particularly the ones that can cause us great emotional distress: depression, anxiety and even mental disorders. It is a fact that many of these beliefs came to us as a result of being in the Jehovah's Witness religion.

  Core beliefs typically center around themes of:

  • Lovability - worthiness and desirability
    
  • Adequacy - feeling not good enough
    
  • Helplessness - feeling trapped

  In unlearning these beliefs, we need to find positive, healthy beliefs to replace them. But these need to be OUR beliefs, not anyone else's beliefs, and particularly not those of some self-appointed guru. Be your own guru.
  

  Cult survivors are particularly vulnerable to leaving one codependent relationship and ending up in another. It's a lot of work and can be emotionally painful, but it's worth it. There are no short cuts. No quick fixes. No easy answers.

  Ever heard of a brother being DFD and just walking away from family support?

  just wondering if there ever been a brother that got dfd and then was shunned by his wife and his at home kids and he's just said , if your going to treat me like this screw it and walked away from all his responsibilities as a provider etc?

  it must be hard for those that are dfd to continue to support those that shun him?

  again anyone hear of such a case?.

  Playing the "parental alienation syndrome" card it possible, but it is definitely an uphill battle all the way. In the U.S. a judge can force shared and/or joint custody of minor children. But judges can do little or nothing to prevent a parent from alienating their children against another parent. Nothing.

  If the alienating parent is successful, the children will absolutely shun the other parent as soon as they become of age.

  The psychological means of manipulation employed are powerful, generally applied unconsciously (although cult members have learned them well) and not subject to any legal means of prevention, redress or judgement.
  

  Anyone wanting to really understand this should read Richard A. Gardner’s exhaustive book on the subject: The Parental Alienation Syndrome: A Guide for Mental Health and Legal Professionals.

  It's a challenging read, but for those that undertake it, you will clearly understand the power of the psychological forces involved.

  My Younger Brother Has Left The Witnesses!! :-D

  absolutely thrilled to give you the news that my younger brother, a zealous full-time pioneer has left the witnesses!!.

  i haven't seen or spoke to him in a year.

  i'd lost all contact with him, no facebook, no mobile number, i didn't even know his address because he'd moved house.

  Here's a thread from about 3 years ago analyzing that nonsense from the Watchtower, January 15, 2014, p. 30-31, paragraphs 14 - 16:

  • Overlapping Generation/GB/Doug Sanderson

  Apparently, there are actually now three groups of "anointed" ones:

  1. Those anointed before 1914
  2. Those anointed after 1914, but before the death of the last of those in group #1.
  3. Those anointed after the death of the last person in group #1. (See point #2 above)

  There's an interesting chart on the third page of this thread that predates the one Splane is using in the video you linked (I wonder if he plagiarized the one published here?). It even brings up about the fact that the WTBTS isn't sure when Fred Franz was baptized! ... LOL.

  EU2BaD: I truly believe that if a man continues to support his kids, they will soon see the light and the harmful folly in the wtbts's shunning policy. It may take a while for kids who have been heavily indoctrinated by wtbts sh*t to come around, but I think they will eventually because, in most cases, blood is thicker than wt sh*t!

  Going "Hollywood" not helping!

  going “hollywood” hasn’t seemed to help build any enthusiasm for the wtbts.

  think about it, jw’s now have their own studio to make videos and cartoons.

  the ‘kingdom’ dirges (songs) have received a makeover to a bit more modern tunes.

  @Wake Me Up, what was it about the "bunker series" videos that affected you so much? Do you know or was it just a deep emotional reaction? Sometimes, especially when we are in the early stages of losing our religion, we can't always clearly articulate why we feel the way we do.

  Recall that Ray's book was titled: Crisis of Conscience. There's a reason for that.

  Who on the current GB is likely to even have a conscience?

  Certainly not Morris or Herd. Lett is a mindless idiot. Lösch is spineless from all evidence. Not much left to work with.

  i’ve been hearing from several very reliable sources that there will be an exclusive elite gala entertainment event hosted by the watch tower organization, featuring specially chosen jehovah’s witnesses of outstanding talent as well as spiritual reputation, at the sony centre (formerly called the o’keefe centre) in toronto, ontario (canada) as a special “after hours” addition to the 2017 special international convention.. those chosen have to meet very strict criteria, including, not so much technical and popular talents, but, rather, their spiritual maturity which can be easily and practically related to by the audience (i.e., degree of conformity – you know what i mean!).

  a notable and very well-known professional “super star” from some other country (i don’t know which one) who has achieved highly recognized and popular talent was surprisingly not chosen to participate in the extra entertainment program, whereas other performers with rather ho-hum musical abilities ended up being selected, ostensibly for their altruistic and “theocratic” qualities.

  (something tells me that there is going to be some jealousy and indignant, hard feelings over this rather authoritarian, arbitrary selection process.

  No. Main stream Christian religions do not practice institutionalized shunning. JWs are still a cult, but keep hoping!

  @ 39:39" - Don't Be Cruel ... Oh, the irony.

  Back when I was a dub, we were discouraged from putting on local "talent shows" because it demonstrated a lack of humility, and of course: we should be involved in theocratic activities.

  So many times the WTBTS forbade the R&F from doing completely normal social things and yet later they end up doing the exact same thing. When WE would do it, it is bad. When THEY do it, it is good.

  Fucking hypocrites.

  As noted above, except for the hypocrisy, I no longer recognize this religion.
