hi does anyone know any good articles or videos about how old mankind and the earth are and carbon dating?
.
i've just started looking into it but there seems to be a lot of conflicting ideas over accuracy so i'm unsure what to think.
I only quickly scanned this thread so forgive me if anyone else has already posted it: this is a really interesting and relatively recent addition to the science of our ancestry:
today is my birthday :) in happy to be able to say that guilt free!
.
Happy Birthday!🎉🎊🎂🎈🎁
i recently made the decision to stop studying with my study conductor, due to a situation i found myself in that led to a high possibility of my unbaptized publisher "rights" being taken away from me.
i have since told my study conductor i have joined a new church (to which she dropped me like a hot rock, of course).... last time i posted on here, i was progressing nicely towards baptism, and was well into it.anyhoo, i like my new church, very hillsong-esqe.
so just wondering if anyone else has stayed the course of christianity after leaving the jws, and if so - where did you go?
My JW indoctrination successfully convinced me that all OTHER religions are false. When I realized that JWs are a cult there was no religion left to want to be part of.
I'm not big on labels, but I guess you could call me "Spiritual, but not religious" (SBNR).
i came across this article in the magazine psychology today.
it is about the traits of poor leaders in the field of employment although you could easily think it had been written about the gb.
https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/culture-shrink/201607/8-traits-toxic-leadership-avoid.
When I read the article, I thought the author, psychiatrist Jean Kim, M.D., was talking about Donald Trump.
It fit's him to a "T"!
watchtower article often introduce a point that has no merit with words such a "undeniably.".
for instance the watchtower 2014 august 15 page 10 says:.
"jehovah undeniably blesses the preaching work of christian women and supports them in times of trial.
It’s kind of a combination of “puffing” (in the legal sense), the common sense fallacy, making unfounded assertions and begging the question.
The WT’s use of “evidently” in their “explanation” of the “overlapping generation” teaching was what put it over the top for me.
I remember realizing it was all bullshit because they wrote “evidently” (which implies there was some evidence) but they never provided any.
It’s intellectually dishonest. They just make shit up and lie.
The example jwfacts cited in the OP smacks of bullying, manipulation and deceit when understood in light of the social dynamics of the JW religion. Seriously, who’s going to say during a WT study, or even privately to any elder, “I think it IS deniable that ‘Jehovah ... blesses the preaching work of Christian women and supports them in times of trial.’”?
No one ever.
i get it, not a fan of yahweh the desert god.
but what about jesus?
anything wrong with his teachings like the sermon on the mount and the example he set.
You’re kidding, right?
Jesus (if he even really existed) is credited with saying a whole bunch of really messed up shit.
Sure, cherry-pick the nice stuff and he’s fine. You could do that with Hitler.
i don’t care about it unless someone runs on a record of being a model family man or woman.. does it bother you if a president or princess or top government official “cheats “??
?.
Leaders should, by definition, lead by example and set a higher standard than the average person.
They are human, not perfect, but—if they are to enjoy the privileges and benefits of their position they sure as hell better live up to the responsibilities as well.
The one thing I can never forgive anyone in a position of authority is hypocrisy and covering it up.
If anyone wants forgiveness, compassion and understanding for their shortcomings and failings, then they have to deserve it. When it comes to that, actions speak louder than words.
i have made repeated attempts to move on with my life despite your decision to plague my every thought and move.
i cannot move forward.
a change of venue, that of diet, even new clothes have afforded me a frivolous and temporary elevation of spirits.
Thanks, CoCo.

Humbled: Do your students ever have impediments to clear writing because they can’t identify a thought or a feeling?
Only all the time!
That's really the challenge: to learn how to articulate and express those elusive and/or hard to define thoughts and feelings.
Heck, it's hard enough to write clearly when I know what I'm thinking and feeling! ... LOL
