30It's My Birthday Today
by pale.emperor intoday is my 34th birthday.
or, my 3rd birthday that i've actually acknowledged seeing as i was raised in the cult.. i woke up this morning to my 4yo running into my room and wishing me a "happy birthday daddy!".
i got a card from my ex-jw brother and i bought myself a birthday gift - a new 50mm lens for my nikon camera (photography is a hobby i took up since leaving the cult).. i dont know about you guys, but birthdays is still something i have to make a conscious effort to acknowledge and enjoy.

My avatar is a photograph of Daniel Day Lewis in the role of John Proctor from the movie The Crucible.
For those that don't know the story, it is based on the events of the Salem Witch Trials when--in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692--19 men and women, and two dogs, were accused of witchcraft and subsequently hanged for it.
My user name, jp1692, is John Proctor's initials and the year of the Salem Witch Trials.
The Crucible is a play by Arthur Miller based on these actual events, but adapted to reflect the then current hysteria in the United States during the Second Red Scare. This was the period of McCarthyism from the late 1940s through the 1950s when many people were being falsely accused of being communists and having their lives ruined. Two people, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, were actually executed as a result.
I thought this avatar and my corresponding username appropriate due to my final experiences with the JW Cult.

As fun as that pseudoscientific, Marvel comic bookish idea sounds, it shows a profound ignorance of the basic physics of atomic structure and the forces involved in the chemical bonding of molecules and compounds.
If you really want to understand the real science behind this, you might find a rudimentary course in atomic theory to be very informative. Be sure to include a basic chemistry course which discusses the composition of molecules and compounds (chemical bonds) and how they are the building blocks for larger structures, ie.: organic chemistry, biochemistry and biology.
Thereās a whole lot more than just electrons going on in an atom.

For those who are athest, or non-christian, how did you come to this decision?

I gave it a lot of thought and followed the evidence to where it inevitably led. Godāat least along the lines of the one portrayed in the Abrahamic traditionsāsimply does not exist.
Frankly, this is a good thing. Why?
As Richard Dawkins so clearly explains, āThe God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.ā
This does explain, though, why ātrue believersā of the fundamentalist ilk are as nasty and horrible as they frequently are. They are made in āHisā image.
They are simply imitating their vile god.

After watching A&E Leah Remini on Jehovah Witnesses I am going to stop hiding behind my Avatar
by Still Totally ADD injust got done watching this program and what impress me the most was the bravery of those x-witnesses to sit there on national tv and tell everyone how the wt.

joe : dont get mad or offensive, but there was a documentary that aired a few nights ago on prime time tv in the usa concerning the jws, and there was some very nasty stuff mentioned, and it certainly wasnāt positive toward the organisation.

Being a Witness used to require some actual knowledge and personal skill in talking people. Now you just need to be able to set up a cart and a video screen then stand next to it.

Can you ever see a time when Govt`s of this world will attempt to abolish all religions ?
by smiddy3 inwe are now in the 21st century of our common era with its insights into the potential of what can be achieved in the near future to benefit mankind for years to come .. the co-operation of governments around the world on so many levels has never been better than it is today and it is at least encouraging to see this .. whether it has to do with the climate , the environment ,food production ,safe water for all ,and the better health for all in the near future, and in the future space exploration.
however the problem today is still religion !
in its many extreme forms that divides us in no ways that politics divide us .. politicians learn how to compromise and work with their opponents for the greater good ,whereas religions don`t.. religions divide humans like no politicians ever did well not to the extremes religions will go anyway.. is their going to come a time in history when governments politicians say enough is enough and try attempt to abolish religion ?.

I certainly hope not. That would be terrible because only a totalitarian nightmare of a government would do such a thing.
I'd much prefer that as a species we outgrow our childish need to believe in superstitions, myths and lies and embrace reality for what it is, or at least as much as we can know it.
If and when this happens, then religions would just naturally fade away and then eventually die out. This trend is already occurring in many Westernized societies as a result of education.
