Itâs only a âslip-upâ if you expect WT âtheologyâ to be coherent, consistent, logical and/or make sense.

The Latest "Peoples Magazine" on Occults
by new boy inof course they talk about all the really wacky ones everyone knows about, jones town, charles mason, heaven's gate and branch dravidian.
however if you add up all the unnecessary deaths these cults have contributed too (a thousand and fifty people) it pales in comparison to the number of people who have been directly or indirectly killed my the jehovah's witnesses.
by the way all of the cults mention above are no more, except for the watchtower bible and truck society.. the little ones seem to get all the attention and the big ones just slide on by.. .

Hey, New Boy,
The words occult and cult donât mean the same thing. You might want to look them up.
Also, you should provide references and/or links to support your claims.
Iâm just sayinâ, is all!

Why does WT rarely reference creationist scientist?
by Sanchy inin watching the latest video in the series "was it designed?
" at tv-dot-jw-dot-org, i got to wondering why is it that watchtower hardly references scientist that are creationist.
i know its only a minority from that group, but there are enough out there for them to reference from.

Michael Behe, the author of Darwinâs Black Box is a serious biochemist that argues that there is a god that is the creator of all things. His lines of reasoning are generally of the âargument from designâ type.
Behe is also a Catholic, but he most definitely is NOT a âcreationist.â

Similar to what Simon said, there is no such thing as a âcreationist scientist.â Itâs a contradiction in terms and opposing philosophical world views.
The closest thing would be a scientist that believes in a God. There are many of those, but theyâre not âcreationistsâ in the world-was-created-in-six-literal-days belief. No.

Anyone Tried "Sous Vide" Cooking?
by Simon ini like a nice steak but cooking one can be a little intimidating and the results hit and miss especially when it comes to getting the right temperature so getting it wrong can be an expensive mistake.
can anyone do that "finger and thumb together to check the doneness" thing?
i can't .... so i came across this cooking technique called "sous vide" which cooks food (in a sealed vacuum bag) in a warm water bath, even steak.

Wow, 1 1/2 stars out of 5. That's incredibly bad. Those reviews were brutal.
Bill Parodi certainly has mastered the art of appearances: seeming to be one thing while actually being something very different.

OC, thanks for sharing that link.
I was surprised to read the names of several JWs I used to know back in the day:
- Bill Parodi, David Goldfarb, Andrew Varble & Scott Lockwood
All four of these men had been high-profile elders in the Los Angeles area and nearby Ventura county.
When I was still attending meetings, I heard that Parodi had been "removed" as an elder. The word in the JW-rumor mill was that he'd been involved in some "suspicious" or "dubious" business dealings, but I had no idea the extent.
I did NOT know the others were involved. What a bunch of hypocrites.
I did a quick Google search and found this document from the Securities and Exchange Commission regarding the disposition of the matter with the Parodi brothers:
This digest reported that the SEC issued an order concerning Bill Parodi and his brother that both be âpermanently barred from association with any broker, dealer, investment company, investment adviser, or municipal securities dealerâ as a result of their fraudulent business practices.
Evidently, over a considerable period of time they defrauded individuals and municipalities out of tens of millions of dollars. Wow!
Although I did not know the details of this particular situation, it was the vast amount of hypocrisy that I did come to know about being practiced by many others in the JW religion that led me to leave in 2009.
- I do not associate* with deceitful men, And I avoid those who hide what they are. - Psalm 26:4
Very interesting!

Explain Your Avatar
by new boy ini know this thread has been done before.
however maybe some of the new comers might like to know.. my avatar is the cover of my first novel "your crazy life.
".

jp1692
My avatar is a photograph of Daniel Day Lewis in the role of John Proctor from the movie The Crucible.
For those that don't know the story, it is based on the events of the Salem Witch Trials when--in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692--19 men and women, and two dogs, were accused of witchcraft and subsequently hanged for it.
My user name, jp1692, is John Proctor's initials and the year of the Salem Witch Trials.
The Crucible is a play by Arthur Miller based on these actual events, but adapted to reflect the then current hysteria in the United States during the Second Red Scare. This was the period of McCarthyism from the late 1940s through the 1950s when many people were being falsely accused of being communists and having their lives ruined. Two people, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, were actually executed as a result.
I thought this avatar and my corresponding username appropriate due to my final experiences with the JW Cult.
- "Falsely accused and convicted of witchcraft, I was hanged because I refused to say I believed in something which I did not." - John Proctor
In my case, I am shunned because I no longer profess to believe in the doctrines of the JW religion or unquestioningly follow its leadership.
