  I like you too, even when we don’t agree! 👍

  I totally understand that I come across as “thinking I know better than you or most people.”

  Although that is not my intent, I get it. And I’m okay with that. Let me tell you why.

  After being in a cult for 25 years and leaving it at the expense of having my two children shun me for over a decade, I have spent that time working hard to learn how to think clearly and scientifically and to detect bias and cultic thinking.

  Whenever I see bullshit, I call it as I see it.

  As I think you know, I am a high school science teacher with multiple degrees and a Master’s in Education. I earned all of these degrees as I was transitioning out of the cult and after leaving it.

  It’s frustrating for me to see so many members of this forum—people who have left the JW cult and usually lost family members to it—demonstrate that they still have a cult mentality and can’t recognize bias, manipulation or propaganda.

  As LongHairGal observed, everyone on this site is an adult (or should be). If they can’t stand the heat, then maybe they should stay out of the kitchen.

  As a teacher and as a fellow ex-cult member, I’m just trying to share some hard won knowledge and some very painfully earned skills. If that sometimes comes across as arrogant, so be it. It probably only annoys the people that need it the most! 🤣

  Again, Minimus asked a question. I answered it. Please don’t read motives or intentions into my posts that aren’t there. As you said, you don’t know.

  LHG: I’m sure everybody that’s an adult on this forum knows the news outlets are biased and that you have to filter it all.

  Well that clearly isn’t true. Many people on this forum openly acknowledge that they only consult highly biased and one-sided sources of news and other information.

  Wasn’t that the point of Minimus’ question, to find out what news sources forum members listen to and read?

  I subscribe to The Flip Side.

  They provide regular, email summaries of both sides of important current issues and events—from the right and the left, Republican and Democrat—in a format that can be reviewed in about 5 minutes a day.

  Additionally, I am a regular consumer of extra-national news services (e.g., news services that are from outside my country of origin, which in my case is the USA).

  It's challenging to deliberately read news and "news" reports from sources which are often highly biased, but it seems to be the only way to try and sort through the bullshit to get some sense of what the hell might actually be happening.

  It's notable that almost everyone this is highly biased on current issues only consults sources which confirm their pre-existing beliefs and biases (see Confirmation Bias).

  This is bad for anyone, but it is particularly egregious for ex-cult members such as ourselves.

  My ExElder Best Friend Has Coronavirus

  this has been a horrible month.

  my best friend’s wife just called to tell me that my friend had to be hospitalized due to severe coronavirus complications.

  he has severe pneumonia, is put on a ventilator and is in a coma .

  Minimus: Some here might have Minimitis. It’s a very serious mental condition. It’s kinda like Trump Disorder Syndrome.

  The only thing in common is that both of you attack whenever anyone disagrees with you or criticizes anything you say!

  They're only "Minimus-type questions" if you ask them, and then immediately lead with your own opinion and do so in such a way that implies you are inherently correct and any other opinion is wrong.
