Well from my recent experiences I am wondering why nothing is being done to stop Drs. from overcharging the insurance companies here.
When I had insurance my Dr visit would charge the insurance co. at least $500. to $2,500. depending on what they did. Well I just went and had no insurance this time..my bill was $80.
I had blood work and it was $800. When I had it done with insurance it was $2,500. Why? Same tests...I politely questioned them about it and they said cash payers get a discount. It seems like I paid the same either way. Subtracting my deductables when I had insurance.Almost comes out the same.
I called a few years ago to report to my insurance that they had been double billed for one of my procedures .They couldn't be bothered. (It wasn't their money (the customer service rep.) No wonder insurance is so high. All the ripoffs...
I am just so thankful I have stayed healthy the last two years..now in a few months my medicare and the supplement I am getting will take care of most of it.
When I retired years ago they told me I would get health insurance..then when I actually did retire they sent me a letter explaining they had made a mistake. When our banks merged a few years before that they only allowed the employees from the bank we were bought out by to keep their retirement insurance. Not us. They did offer me Cobra though at $500. a month!!!!
I took that but it ran out a few years ago..leaving me as one of the "unfortunate ones"..Screwed again...Thank goodness it worked out OK..
But I will have to have some bridgework redone...I know that is going to cost me!!!!!!!!Big time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe I will have them all pulled....
Snoozy...
Edited to add..here in Missouri we seem to have a lot of children's dental work done by charity groups and Dentists that volunteer their services. I am always reading about a clinic that has opened for childrens services (dental). They even have vans that visit the schools..
