Why you should not worry about Japan's nuclear reactor problems.

a nuclear reactor is built in such a way, that when operating normally, you take out all the moderator rods.

so if these radioactive materials are released into the environment, yes, radioactivity was released, but no, it is not dangerous, at all.

when the uranium splits, it generates a neutron (see above).

We have a very interesting place / event here called "Times Beach"...it too was considered safe at one time..buried nuclear waste..people getting sick . It was finally found out they had buried the waste in theh area. Right by the river! How stupid was that. Ending was they paid the people a small amount for compensation and relocation, dug up the dirt and buried it somewhere else. Now people use it as a beach area..

Point is I am sure the government knew about the waste ..

Same story today, I heard the radiation already hit California..

I have been around long enough and read enough to know how they cleverly hide and cover up harmful disasters..long enough that people don't have a clue why they are getting sick 30-,0 or even 50 years down the road and all of a sudden babies /animals with deformities are being born..

First, the fact that the fallout is going to be breathed in and incorporated into your body. That puts the radioactive particles in immediate contact with your body's cells.Second, that fallout is going to be effecting you for weeks, months and years; until it's excreted. If it's excreted. A regualar X-ray is only giving you radiation for a couple of seconds. Even without the issue of inhaling the radioactive particles to consider, how long would you like to stand in front of an X-ray machine that is constantly turned on? Hours, days, weeks, months

I agree with that. I also read that California is in for it sometime soon. They even have somethiing called the "Earthquake fish" that Japan uses to predict earthquakes...next arrival due March 19th tomorrow. Should be interesting!

Damage from radiation doesn't show up for quite a while..by that time all the ones that said it wasn't harmful are dead from old age. I often think that is why there is so much cancer today! Results from the 50's and 60's.

A comment from a daughter of a worker trying to keep the reactor from blowing...

The team, known as the Fukushima 50, were described as ‘suicide fighters’ as they worked round the clock with little sleep and food and exposed to deadly levels of radiation to bring the damaged reactors under control.

One message on Twitter, apparently from the daughter of a Fukushima worker, said: ‘My dad went to the nuclear plant. I never heard my mother cry so hard. Please dad come back alive.’

A worker’s daughter said in an e-mail: ‘My father is still working at the plant. They are running out of food. He says he’s accepted his fate… much like a death sentence’

Expert Keiichi Nakagawa said: ‘I don’t know any other way to say it but this is like suicide fighters in a war.’

There are actually 300 of them on the site, working in shifts of 50.

One has been exposed to five times the annual radiation limit.

Former atomic energy official Gennady Pshakin said: ‘They are like the Spartans, standing up against all that’s thrown against them.’

Car inspection woes

i'm sure texas isn't much different from any other state.. we want clean air.

so, the auto manufacturers came up with a glorified box of charcoal that "filters" out the pollutants (simultaneously making the energy output less efficient requiring yet more fuel) called a catalytic converter.. most cars' converter lasts about 10 years.. .

i'm driving a honda accord from 1998. the coverter has given up the ghost and i don't pass the nox tests.. so.... i can't renew my registration and have to spend about $1700 to replace that stupid box of charcoal.. .

Snoozy who used to have a lowered in back 1950 ford and later a 57 chevy with glass packs and fender skirts and a lincoln continental on the back..but I didn't have a poodle skirt...

When I was thinking about leaving the JW religion I also thought about counseling. I called a few from the phone book and had to leave messages with my phone number. I was upset one day and prayed for god to give me a sign of what I should do...just then the phone rang and it was a counselor wanting to set up an appointment with me...I took that as a sign from above...after going for a while and a recent development with another witness and the way the brothers handled her situation helped me make my decision to leave..

That's the answer I got when talking with a witness(in Australia) on my facebook . We were discussing the Child abuse issue and I quoted how they did not report it unless the law demanded it..she announced that they did have a talk at her KH on how the authorities should report it even if the law doesn't require it..the speaker giving the talk, his daughter was molested! I told her that was not the rule but the exception, she then said:

The GB are just imperfect men doing their best."

Troubled Mind, I caught the way that they said "We" can help him rather than Jehovah's spirit can help him..

When my youngest son got baptised @16 one of the MS came up to me and said, "Now we can REALLY help him ", WTF did that mean ?? What came in to my mind immediately was 'yeah now you guys can pressure him to conform because you will hold DFing over his head ' . What held them back from helping /encouraging him before ? ( i had tried to talk my son out of baptism )

On reading this remark by drew I remembered two very special witnesses in my life that decided to wait till after armageddon to have children.

I a bunch of words: This really nails it. We all know people who are like Andrew. I remember a friend of mine who was an elder and who would be in this age group as he graduated in 1969. He married a sister from the hall and they both wanted children. Of course, it was very unpopular to have children since the end was so close, so they never did. Although he has made a nice career working for his father-in-law, he told me that he and his wife both regret not having children. I'm sure there are thousands and perhaps millions of people with similar stories or can relate. Of course, to point this out to a JW that they were wrong in saying "You will never fulfill a career" they will just say that they are wrong sometimes. Howver, it has been detrimental to so many witnesses and their families.

As far as I can tell from reading if you die and are resurrected you can't have any children? That is what I get from their literature anyway. So I wonder if they knew this back in the 60's or did they just make this promise and not tell them the rest? Anyway they decided to wait and now the husband is deceased. So what happens to their dreams to have children..? Heartbreaking stories like this come back to my mind and like Grace I too feel a deep sadness over their loss and so many others that listened to the WTBTS.. ( and many that still do).

Thank you for posting the Awake article and reminding us just what foolishness we all listened to (and believed) in the 60's..

i've seen a few threads/posts where some of y'all have heard from jw contacts and how they've stepped up their 'the end is close' rhetoric because of the earthquake/tsunami in japan.

i usually take those things with a grain of salt.

there's always some jw whose cheese has slipped that reads prophecy into every little thing that happens.

All you have to do is look up "List of earthquakes" to see we are experiencing nothing new!

As far as Jesus coming and Gd's destruction of the old world and the making of a new world..what makes people think that if God screwed up the first time he will do better the second time?

Shouldn't God be able to get man/earth right the first time?..Maybe he is just playing games with us, add a little spice to his long days...

I am sure we are quite entertaining to him..
