It's soooo hot!

it's 27 degrees celsius today = about 35 in my flat, which is about 95 degf for the americans.. .

my friends in tx say it's been over 100 degf for about 2 months ... i don't have ac, but a fan on me .... .

how do you deal with the heat?.

Between 85 and 98 degrees here in Mo. I am on the bottom floor of my condo's..my electric bill is never over $80. Most of the time it is $30. - $40. a month. I have the air conditioning on most of the time but it doesn't run all the time..one of the finer points of being on the lower level..but the steps will get you!.

I remember when the kids were little back in the 60;s. It was in the 100's. Before AC..We had the big box fans going all over the house and we kept the blinds closed and the windows closed..it was so hot you could hardly breathe..
Our back yard had a lot of shade and the kids and I would fill their kiddie pool and lay in it to cool off..

People talk about the good old days but that wasn't included..I love AC in the hot summer!

ps wanted to add that we are supposed to get a cool spell and noticed it is only 77 out now.

My daughters MIL is in her 80's and she still drives all over town and has all kinds of meeting with the girls she goes to..and you talk like it's all over?..Time for you to take horse riding lessons or parachuting out of a plane Gracie..

now that it's legal to be gay and married in new york...is there anyone here that is actually planning on getting married?

if so, what kind of products or companies would you be interestd in buying from?

I started a topic on this on facebook. My question was if they get married in NY and then go to another state where gay marriage is not legal are they still married..?

Why would they agree that it is a legal marriage if it is only legal in the states that accept gay marriage? A regular marriage is legal in all states..why not the gay marriage too?

Will all insurance companies honor this marriage for insurance purposes?

Will their work companies allow them to be put on their health insurance? Even in another state that doesn't accept gay marriage?

If not why even bother?(For legal reasons)

This is the reply I got when approaching a JW friend of mine in Australia on their child molesting issues:

Well, I see nothing better. This is what I want. I never blame Jehovah for what men do. Even in the organization. It's insidious men led by Satan. Of course they are inside as well as out. I don't know about policies. I know that we were told that any cases were to be reported to police, this by an elder whose daughter was molested

I really don't think the witnesses ever said anything or admitted that any of th eones in the congregation were possibly led by Satan before..and theirs congregation seems to be the only one that tells its members to report any cases to the police! At least the only one I know of. And note it says that the Elders daughter was molested but it doesn't say by who..

derek house is a jehovahs witness who believes an organ transplant could lead to the recipient having a change of personality.. this was on tv here in the uk this week.i couldn't believe my eyes and ears when i saw this!note the comments - many of them are defending jws saying he can't really be one.

Bolenygirl, I agree with their findings..I too think it is possible to be connected in some way but not sure why. Because of the transplant or because of the trauma/drugs/etc.

And slimboyfat, how much is a TV license? We have to pay for our cable but can choose from where we get it..

ps..One thing about the witnesses..they were usually safe rather than sorry about some things..especially about some vaccines and oral polio .

This past weekend I lost my mom

the cancer finally got to her and now my sisters and i are left without our mother.

we take comfort only in knowing that she is no longer in pain.

how do people move on from such a massive loss?.

I am so sorry for your loss..

I was just remembering when my Mom and 6 months later my dad died. At the time my life was so busy I didn't have that much time to dwell on it. But now it is different. I find myself missing them more now..now that I have quality time I could spend with them.
So many things I can understand now and they aren't here for me to tell them "I understand now". My mom and I had an arrangement that we would talk at least every Sunday. To this day 20 odd years later I still feel I am missing something on Sunday's..

How should I respond to a JW friend? (Australia)

sorry if this isn't the right place to post this - brand new member here.. i recently caught up with an old friend who is a jw.

she's been witnessing to me, and i've accepted all her handouts because i don't want to hurt her feelings.

but now she's asking me for my "thoughts" about what i've read so far.

Ooff the subject but my friend in Australia told me that her congregation read a letter to the members (In Toowoomba) that all cases of child abuse (Molesting) or if they knew of a child molester in the congregation, should be reported to the proper authorities..I questioned her on it as no one else had read the letter and that wasn't their usualy practice..(I also showed her samples in the Watchtowers) .

Apparently that elders daughter had been molested and he wanted all cases reported from then on. She wouldn't say if it was another brother or not that did the molesting, I was assuming so because of the way the letter was worded.

That's when she commented that Jehovah would judge their hearts..
