Thank you, Seven, for those links. I am picking up my tin whistle with renewed enthusiasm, and I'm actually making progress! That page on sessioneers was fabulous! Lots of info for a newbie tin whistler.

i am pleased to anounce a new chapter of the san francisco bay area support group for ex-jws has been started.. the [silicon valley ex-jw support group] will be holding its first meeting on january 28th, and thereafter every 4th sunday of the month.. we are aiming to be accessible to the south and east bay area, including san jose.
our meeting place will be in the fremont/milpitas area.
we desire to provide a safe place for ex-jws to be able to heal without the judgementalism that we experienced in the watchtower, so we encourage all attendees to be tolerant and non-condemning of other members or their current lifestyles.

Hi Seven,
My Feadog is brass colored with a green mouthpiece. I cant seem to get the green part off and i dont know what you mean by oiling it. What kind of oil? Where does it go? the mouthpiece seems to just be a one-piece plastic part. Are there better whistles out there? Where would I find one?
OrangeValeBob...
I'll let ya know when a concert comes up in the Sacramento region. Which city are you in? OrangeVale? Is that far from Santa Rosa?
Say...Have you ever thought of going to the support groupin San Raffael? Or that might be a bit far from you?
Cheers,
Wayne

Hey Seven,
I like the Chieftans too. I got their Santiago, and Long Black Veil cds, which has vocals by Sting, Sinead, Jagger, Knoppfler, and Van Morrison. Great stuff! I could go on and on with my collection of the more obscure stuff. Like Glenn Morgan, Steve McDonald, Cherish the Ladies, Ashley McIssaac, Poozies, Blackmores Night, etc..
If anyone likes Christian-oriented celtic music , Maire Brennan of Clannad does a solo cd called Whisper To The Wild Water that is every bit as beautiful as anything her little sister Enya has done.
I got me a tin whistle too, when I went to the Scottish festival. But DANG if that thing isnt hard to play! It is almost impossible to get a steady tone or use the whole range of chords. Maybe mine is just a lemon, or a cheapie...only cost 12$. Where did you get your whistle? Is it any better? Mine is a Feadog D. I have managed to play a barely acceptable rendition of "I cant help falling in love with you" on it.
ORGANGEVALE BOB:
Hey! Yer not too far away from me! I sometimes get up there to the Sac area, to visit Dan Hall and his gang. Do you know Don Nelson? Hes the first ex-JW i met after I got expelled.
If ya want to, maybe we can get together and see Tempest sometime? Ive gone up to the Santa Rosa area to see them play before. Check their schedule on their website. They also play as Caliban, with just the fiddler and the leadman, and in this form play more traditional celtic music. Their schedule is on the site too.
Cheers,

I have been going to the small concerts of a local band called Tempest. They play celtic rock with more traditional tunes....just veru loudly! Perfect blend of fiddles, electric guitar, and the Norwegian lead singers' double-necked electric mandolin. Check out their website at www.tempestmusic.com
Any other celtic fans in here?

i've been toying with the thought of starting a band.
so far it's a one-man band, for i know few in the music world where i live.
what i want to do is purchase a mixer so i can edit my own bass, drum and guitar tracts.
.....and to the one you thought was on your side....

hey, nice to see you again, kismet!!!
where ya been?
i do agree that the other thread was getting a bit long, and totally lost it's original purpose!
Greetings!
Is it my turn? OK , here goes...
Raised as a JW. Dad was an elder. We went to Minnesota where the need was great in '74. Came back to Calif flat broke in '76. Dad resigned as an elder and has been chroniccally depressed for years, but still believes in the Org. Mom has pioneered on and off for years and brought many people into the JWs including most relatives.
I got married in '87 at 21. My wife was raised a JW too. Struggled with our marriage and finances for years, but things got better as we got older. I became a Ministerial Servant in the Pleasanton, CA congregation, and my wife a FT PIO. I had many responsibilities in the hall and we were part of the center of the congregation socially. Had many happy years around this time and was a content JW.
In '98 my wife asked me to explain to her again the Gentile Times calculations. I did so, and then something just cliked in my brain and I reealized just how weak these doctrines were. I started doing tons of research on 1914 and 607. Read lots of history books at the library and emailed historians and rabbis. I didnt look at 'apostate' literature yet at this time. Came to the conclusion that the WTS was way off base in the 1914 doctrine and then started realizing the repurcussions of that conclusion.
I was very dissilusioned and went to the elders for help. They formed an investigative committee on me, but were actually pretty patient with me at this time. I asked to be removed from the school.
Then I started re-questioning a teaching that I had long disagreed with...the blood transfusion ban. broke down and told my wife I disagreed with it. Started doing research on blood fractions at hospital library and found references to AJWRB. Was shocked to find JWs who thought like I did and emailed Liberal Elder to support him in AJWRBs cause. Wife found the email on my computer and printed it up and gave it to elders. Judicial committee was formed...appeal failed....anounced Disfellowshipped on Jan 11th '99. Wife left me shortly after....disowned by my family...abandoned by all my freinds....etc, etc...
Found comfort in discovering the online world and the many many exjws out there. Also found a local ex-JW support group. Dabbled a bit with mainstream churches, but found my world-view had changed. Now I go to a Unitarian church.
I have been seperated for almost two years and am thinking about divorce for closures sake. Have made friends with other ex-jWs, but still find it hard to fit in with society in general. But I manage ok, and keep busy with my job as a stair banister installer in the Silicon Valley area near San Francisco CA.
Thanx for listening!

I saw it and it stunk big time!
I love sci-fi and hoped it would be good despite the bad reviews. It wasnt. Travolta has made a major embarrassment.
The plotline is just so unbelievable and the characters are one-dimensional. The decent effects are not enough to pull this movie out of the toilet.
