After 4 years, an introduction (hope it works this time!)
by gwyneth inive been a member of this board for just over four years, and i have never posted an introduction.
i mostly stick to the "fluff" threads, because they are safe.
i wont be attacked for an unpopular point of view, or hurt anyone elses feelings.

Were YOU Depressed When You Were A Witness?
by minimus ini've seen soooo many witnesses taking meds or alcohol because of unhappiness and depression.
i know of one woman who regularly gos to her shrink and is the most depressed person that i know of.
personally, i believe it's because a jw can never do enough to satisfy god or the elders....what do you think?

Oh yes I was. I was on medication for panic attacks, anxiety, sleep disorders. I also had an eating disorder, abused diuretics and diet pills, tried to commit suicide twice and cut myself a few times. That all went away as soon as I quit the cult.

Do you think that the JW's really care if they bring people to the Org.
by JH ini think that as long as they think they are saved, they really don't care if people listen to them.

What a nonesense, they had been studying with these ppl for YEARS, it was obvious they just enjoyed cups of tea, chitchatting for an hour then the next hour covering 2 or 3 paragraphs !!!!!!!!!!
Ha ha that sounds like all the bible studies in my old congregation. They were nothing but big lets-get-together-and-spend-the-next-two-or-three-hours-eating-and-gossiping bible studies

Statement made by Bush in regards to Israel
by Highlander in"we have made it very clear that israel should be allowed to defend herself," bush said in washington.
"we've asked that as she does so that she be mindful of the saniora government.
it's very important that this government in lebanon succeed and survive.".

A lot of fundamentalist Christian sects support Israel and are interested in seeing Israel "survive" because it is only when all Jews return to Israel that the 2nd coming of Christ is supposed to occur......and then he is supposed to condem all Jews to hell. This is their belief. Whether or not Bush refers to Israel as "she" for this very reason-----who knows? Maybe.

What Type Of Congregation Were You In ???
by minimus inthe older i get, the more i appreciate serenity and tranquiity.

Some Halls were known for the "natural" things like holistic medicine, iridology, and homepathy. They'd have "eye readings" and tell you if ou had cancer or not.
That was my congregation!
In my hall people were cliqueish, materialistic and sick. Every month had it's own share of "sister so and so" or "brother so and so" has "cancer/diabetes/blood clots/fibroids/depression/lupus/eating disorder".....you name it, someone had it.
There were far more single women than single men. Many of the single women would get DF'd, only to return a year or two later with a child and sometimes a worldly husband, and then sit all the way in the back row, come in late, leave early each meeting. These women would NEVER get invited to any of the congregation's few social functions.....
There were also many "divided" households, and naturally it was usually the mother (like mine) who would drag the poor kids along to meetings. These families were the outcasts, the red-headed step children who could never live up to the WTS's and the congregation's standards of "spiritual worthiness." These families were also NEVER invited to any of the congregation's few social functions.
I remember one time when I happened to walk by the home of an elder......there was a huge gathering; lots of food, drink and dancing, even non witnesses were present. The elder's wife looked out her front door, saw me walking by, when our eyes met, she shut her front door really quickly. That's true christian love for you!

One time a co-worker was telling me a joke, and all of a sudden I heard my mother's laugh. I looked around to see where the hell was she. Then I realized that the laugh actually came from me! Needless to say I was scared out of my mind!
