I absolutely can relate to what you are saying lisa. I too was excluded from many gatherings, and was considered weak during those years that I suffered from depression. There are definitely cliques within the congregations. The higher up a person is, the more people want to be around them and the more their wrongdoings are covered up too.
I brought up this topic many times in the past with my mom, she says that those kinds of things happen everywhere. While I agree that cliques are not particular to JWs, I always found it rather annoying that the so-called "truth" would have issues like these. We all know that people are imperfect. So then why do they bash other religions knowing that they are not any different?

Is Blood Thicker Dan Water
by non_trias_theos insome people in this place think that jws break up families.
they say that since jws df unrepentant baptized members and insist on jw family members restricting association with df members that jws try to break up families.
what do you think about this charge?.

There was an Awake article that DID mention some groups by name--Skid Row, Guns and Roses--and a few others, but these two stick out in my mind. I think it was around 1992. Anyone that has the CD Roms or bound volumes should look these up. I won't have a chance to do this until tomorrow night, when Im at my mom's house watching Dateline

Who Pays The Ferryman....?
by hillary_step infrench philosopher blaise pascal once noted, "men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction.
" a case study for this statement can clearly be evidenced by the governing body of jehovahs witnesses.. the gb present themselves as lovers of truth and righteousness who are the only persons on this planet who speak for god.
this doctrine is at the very core of the beliefs of jehovahs witnesses and is one of the few that cannot be rationalized away by wts apologists.

question for you all....
by wonderwoman77 inok, here is my situation.
i have been talking with someone on the phone and i am very interested in this person.
i have only been talking to them about 4 or 5 days, and when i was talking to them last night or about 3 hours and at one point, just talking to them gave me that sensation, like you get after you kiss someone for the first time.

I know that tingling sensation...everytime I bite into a York peppermint pattie.(SMACK!!) Er, sorry.
Long distance relationships suck. Been there done that. You just don't really know who is on the other end of the line. It's fun and all, but don't invest too much into these kinds of things.

Tabacco companies
by SoulJah indon't know if this has been brought up before; but anyway.... since jw's cannot with a good conscience buy a relative a pack of cigarettes while they are at the store picking up a few other thing for themselves, or work at a convience store and sell people cigarettes; should they not buy, let's say kraft macaroni & cheese of velveeta based on the fact that a major tabacco company own kraft foods?.
just another random thought of mine.. one day we'll all be together, until then i'm ready for whatever.

Have a friend or a neighbor tape the TCM film festival, and you tape the Dateline story.
I'm going to have to go to my mother's house to watch and tape Dateline--I still have no NBC, CBS, FOX or PBS reception, just cable. It's a shame Tuesday is meeting night for my mom oh well she'll just have to hear about it when she goes out on field service hehehehe

A plague of locusts
by larc innow, when i grew up in the religion, i was taught that we were like a plague of locusts fullfiling prophescy.
well, where i live, i never see them.
they don't work my street, not in the last 5 years.

"A plague of locusts" is what woke me up in 1996. I remember one Sat. morning we were all walking the assigned territory. I remember clearly it was sometime in the late spring/early summer, I was wearing white sandals. I know this because I was looking down at the ground, just strolling along. I overhead a MS say something about a plague of locusts, and just then I looked up. We all looked like a plague of mummies instead. Everyone walked with their heads down, not looking up, and the general mood was like "why are we here." It was right then and there that I said to myself "this is it. We all look pathetic walking down these streets, pretending to be doing something so important, I have a million other important things to do." I walked away.
So the term "plague of locusts" has some real significance to me. -

Favourite Governing Body memeber?
by the follower ini have noticed that there is a tendency in this group to speak injuriously of glorious ones.
in an attempt to help us be more "balanced" in this regard i invite all to share which governing body members they like.
who is your favourite governing body member?
